The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 153: Rescue Mission

Chapter 153: Rescue Mission

One day after the failed mission of Alaric’s team, Gideon and Michael received Randolf’s letter.

Michael was still outside the border, guarding the remaining carriages, when the messenger bird landed.

Michael and Gideon received the same letter.

[ We failed. Lambert died. General Alaric was captured. Dillon and Franco were heavily wounded. Take Princess Eve out of Kingdom Zephyra. Don’t wait for our return. Chancellor Igrin is a traitor. He is working with the enemy. He disclosed information about our assassination mission. He is planning to steal the throne from Crown Prince Cassian.]

Michael immediately informed the Eldara’s Knights who were staying outside the borders.

"No way! So it was Chancellor Igrin! The traitor." One knight reacted. They were shocked by the revelation.

At that certain moment, Crown Prince Cassian and his knights arrived. The knight immediately relayed the information to the crown prince.

"What?! Chancellor Igrin wanted to dethrone me! That bastard!" Prince Cassian said through his gritted teeth.

"Don’t worry, Your Highness. Enox’s team is on their way to rescue Lady Sylvana. I will send a message to them about Chancellor Igrin’s betrayal." The knight reassured Crown Prince Cassian.

"By the way, where is Princess Eve? Her life is in danger!" he asked, worrying about Eve’s safety.

"Your Highness, Princess Eve entered the border one week ago," replied the knight.

"Why are you still here? You should have accompanied Enox. What are you doing here?" Prince Cassian asked them again.

"We don’t have enough entry passes, Your Highness."

"How did Enox manage to enter the border?" Prince Cassian’s face contorted.

"General Alaric gave us four entry passes. Commander Enox utilized them."

The crown prince frowned deeply, thinking about a method to enter the border. Princess Eve needed him now.

"Gather everyone! We will have an emergency meeting!" Crown Prince Cassian commanded in his authoritative voice.

Thirty elite warriors, including Captain Avan of the royal guards, were gathered in front of Prince Cassian. They had to discuss their strategy for infiltrating Kingdom Zephyra.

Meanwhile, Gideon had mixed emotions after reading the letter. He contemplated whether to tell this to Princess Eve or not.

’Alaric was captured. Will she be able to handle this news?’ Gideon thought to himself as he watched Eve.

They were strolling around the town market. It did not take long before a knight gathered the town folks to announce something. The crowd began to gather in one place.

Eve and Gideon also approached the crowd as they listened to the knight’s announcement.

"Everyone! We received information from the Palace," The knight began as he opened the scroll he was holding.

"Last night, a rebel group tried to assassinate our ruler, King Zaraki..."

Eve’s heart pounded crazily upon hearing those words. She looked at him with anticipation.

’Did they succeed?’ Eve pondered to herself, holding her own hands.

"... fortunately, nothing bad happened to our King. The palace intruders were killed and captured. We found out that the leader was named Alaric Stormholt, a general from Kingdom Averion. We captured him."

Eve’s face turned pale instantly, her eyes widening in shock. She almost fell after hearing the bad news. Fortunately, Gideon was there to steady her footing.

He could feel that Princess Eve was feeling devastated right now. A member of the Assassination Team died while their leader was captured.

"A-Are they... torturing him now?" Eve asked Gideon in her trembling voice.

"Yes... probably," he promptly responded.

Eve was about to say a word when suddenly, they heard the knight’s declaration.

"Three days from now, the palace will do a public execution for the captured general. King Zaraki is willing to negotiate if his wife will come to the palace and surrender. If she doesn’t surrender in three days, Alaric Stormholt will be executed."

Eve felt like every ounce of her energy was drained after hearing that.

’No! I can’t let him die!’

Gideon immediately grabbed Eve’s hand. "We should leave now."

He could tell that this was the work of Chancellor Gustav. He was trying to lure Eve using Alaric.

’But why? Do they learn about Princess Eve’s real identity now?’ Gideon pondered to himself.

In a brief moment, the two of them reached their Inn.

Eve grabbed Gideon’s shoulders and said, "Gideon! We need to go to Zephyra’s castle. I need to rescue Alaric!"

Gideon took a deep sigh. "I can’t do that. Alaric gave me a command to take you away from this kingdom."

After saying that, Gideon handed Randolf’s letter over to Eve.

"They want us to escape. Don’t wait for them."

Eve refused to listen to him. "No. I won’t leave! I have allies here. They can help me rescue Alaric."

"Allies?" Gideon frowned deeply. "Who are you referring to?"

"The army of Alucard Winslow, the former Royal Guard Captain," she responded.

Gideon was rendered speechless for a moment. ’So she met them already.’

"If you involve them, many warriors will die from both sides. Is this what you want?" Gideon asked her.

Eve shook her head. "I don’t want them to die. If I can’t involve them, then bring me to the palace. I am willing to negotiate for Alaric’s freedom. I know that King Zaraki has been searching for my mother."

Gideon’s expression turned grim. "Are you going to sacrifice yourself to save the man who caused your mother’s death?"

He had to say those harsh words to knock some sense on her. He couldn’t allow her to surrender in exchange for Alaric’s life.

’My task is to protect her. Alaric failed so we can’t possibly reclaim the throne. Bringing her to the palace will put her in great danger.’

"No! You are wrong. I shouldn’t have blamed Alaric for my mother’s death. He didn’t know what he was doing at that time. He saved me and protected me. He just committed one mistake because he didn’t know who my biological mother was."

After being away from Alaric, Eve realized how important he was to her. Her hatred and resentment toward him disappeared. Alaric was not the main cause of her mother’s death. It was unfortunate that Queen Amara used her to lure her mother.

Eve felt the same feeling. ’So this is how my mother felt when I was taken hostage by Queen Amara. Despite knowing the risk, she still came to rescue me. I will do the same for Alaric. I don’t care about my safety. I just want to protect the man I love.’

"Please, Gideon. Please understand me. I can’t leave here without Alaric. Please help me. I know you can save him. You managed to escape from the Averion Prison Fortress. I believe you can also do that here." Eve begged him desperately.

Eve tried her best to be strong and fight back her tears, however, she failed. Her tears kept streaming down her face like raindrops.

If Gideon refused to help her now, she didn’t know how she would save Alaric.

"Alright. Don’t cry anymore, Princess. You are making me feel guilty. I will bring you to the palace. I promise to rescue Alaric."

Gideon heaved a sigh of defeat. He couldn’t refuse Eve’s request, especially if she was crying like that. He hated to see her cry.

He pulled her into a warm embrace just to comfort her.

"Thank you, Gideon." She felt grateful to him.

"Let’s prepare to leave now. They will execute Alaric if we won’t be there in three days." Gideon broke the hug. He also wiped her tears away.

"Can we reach the Capital in just three days?" She was worried they would be too late to arrive.

"Don’t worry. I have a plan. No one will ever touch Alaric. Just trust me. Okay?" Gideon said.

Eve could only bob her head.

"Wait for me here. I’ll get the fastest horse." After saying that, Gideon left the Inn to get a horse for their trip to the Capital.

Eve packed a few things and talked to Aerin, the mystical fox.

"Aerin, I’m going to Zephyra’s Castle to save Alaric. Will you help me?"

The mystical fox bobbed its head. ’If this is your command, I will do it, My Queen.’

"Please don’t hate Alaric. He is not the one to blame for my mother’s death. He didn’t have an ill motive when he handed me over to Queen Amara. He thought she was my mother. Everyone in the palace believed that Queen Amara was my mother, that’s why he committed a mistake." Eve wanted to clear the misunderstanding between Alaric and the mystical fox. She was worried that Aerin would hesitate to save him if she still resented him.

’I understand, my Queen. I will do my best to assist you. We will rescue your husband, so don’t cry.’ Aerin also comforted her.

"Thank you, Aerin."

It did not take long before Gideon returned.

"Princess, get ready. We must depart now!"

Gideon guided her out of the Inn. They rode a big black horse.

They had just left when Commander Kevin spotted them.

’No way! This can’t be. Why is Princess Eve with him?! Are we being deceived and betrayed by the princess?’
