The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 152: Failed Mission
Chapter 152: Failed Mission
The chancellor met King Zaraki and Crown Prince Leonard in the King’s chamber.
"Did you catch the intruders?" King Zaraki asked Chancellor Gustav.
"Some of them managed to escape. But we caught the big fish... General Alaric, the hero of Kingdom Averion." Gustav relayed the good news.
King Zaraki’s face brightened up when he heard that while Prince Leonard gasped in surprise. The crown prince heard a lot about Alaric’s battle achievements.
"Oh! Alaric is a war god! I didn’t expect that you were able to capture him!" Prince Leonard expressed his thoughts.
"He almost slipped away. But he stayed behind to protect his comrades. He made selfless sacrifices." Chancellor Gustav’s voice had a hint of recognition and adoration toward the enemy.
"Is he really that capable?" King Zaraki asked with intrigue.
Gustav bobbed his head frantically. "He single‐handedly defeated hundreds of our royal guards. We have so many injured knights tonight."
"His tenacity is very troublesome! He is strong and brave," he added, scratching his face.
"Wow. That’s amazing. I want to meet that general!" Prince Leonard declared with excitement.
"He is being interrogated and tortured right now by Captain Beru. It’s not the proper time to meet him, your Highness." Gustav informed Prince Leonard. He couldn’t let the crown prince meet Alaric in the meantime.
Prince Leonard pouted his lips in disappointment. "Alright. I hope Captain Beru won’t kill him!"
"But since everything is settled, I’m going back to my pavilion now. I won’t disturb your discussion." Prince Leonard politely bade farewell to his father, King Zaraki, and Chancellor Gustav.
Crown Prince Leonard left the King’s Chamber, allowing the two to discuss the incident. He was glad that nothing bad happened to his father.
"How about Esmeralda’s daughter? Is she with them?" King Zaraki was more interested in hearing about Eve.
Chancellor Gustav took a deep sigh. "He refused to talk about Eve’s whereabouts. He is her husband so he is protecting her from us."
King Zaraki looked disappointed upon hearing that.
"Do everything to make him talk! We need to capture Eve and find out if she inherits her mother’s power. We can also use her to take the key from Esmeralda." King Zaraki was so desperate to have the key to the dragon’s lair and a beast tamer who could tame the mighty dragon Zephyr.
"Don’t worry too much, my King. I already have a plan on how we can make Princess Eve surrender to us willingly. Alaric will be our bait to lure her out." Chancellor Gustav felt so confident with his plan.
King Zaraki watched him in confusion, arching his eyebrow. "How would you do that?"
"I have already sent messages to our commanders assigned in different towns in our kingdom’s territory. I told them to spread the news of Alaric’s public execution in three days. I demand Princess Eve to show up to stop Alaric’s execution." The chancellor brought up his strategy.
"Do you think the princess will surrender just to save her husband?" King Zaraki was doubtful about this. He didn’t believe that Princess Eve would sacrifice herself to save Alaric. "Do you think she loves her husband so much to sacrifice herself for his survival?"
"I’m not certain about her feelings. But if she is truly Princess Esmeralda’s daughter, I believe she is kind enough not to let her husband die. She will do her best to save him," Chancellor Gustav said, making some assumptions.
King Zaraki burst into a peal of laughter at his last remarks. He had to admit it– Chancellor Gustav was right. Esmeralda and her family were so kind that they failed to protect the throne from being stolen by her deceptive and ruthless Uncle– King Zaraki.
"Then I will have to wait for the result. Just do everything in your power to bring Esmeralda and her daughter to me. I don’t care what method you will use. Just deliver the outcome that I want," King Zaraki replied in his authoritative voice.
"I shall see to it, your Majesty. I won’t fail you!" Chancellor Gustav reassured him.
"I have another piece of news for you. The rebel group assisted Alaric’s comrades in escaping the palace. I think Alucard Winslow is already in contact with Princess Esmeralda and her daughter."
King Zaraki’s expression turned grim. Alucard Winslow was the man he had been trying to hunt down for the past decades. However, this man was like a cockroach– very hard to kill!
Alucard Winslow was very elusive. He managed to reunite the Former King Arthur’s loyal army. He was planning a rebellion to reclaim the throne. He was a great threat to King Zaraki.
"Let them launch an attack so that we can finish them once and for all. I can’t wait to annihilate his army," King Zaraki said through gritted teeth.
"Once I’m done dealing with them completely, I will be able to focus on conquering and invading the other kingdoms. I can’t send my strong armies to the battlefield in fear of Alucard launching a sneaky attack at me. I can’t lower my guard when it comes to this man! He is a great captain of royal guards. Unfortunately, his loyalty was reserved for my brother," he let out his frustrations.
"Make sure to kill him!" He commanded Chancellor Gustav.
"I’ll do my best, your Majesty! I believe they will try to help Princess Eve to rescue her husband. We will capture them once they make a move. I summon our elite army back to guard the palace." Chancellor Gustav tried his best to ease King Zaraki’s burden. He always knew that his king was afraid of Alucard’s revenge.
The former royal guard captain had been preparing for the past few decades just to reclaim the throne and punish him for his brother’s death. Alucard never stopped taking revenge.
"You should take a rest now, your Majesty. I will update you tomorrow about our progress. Rest assured that the guards in your quarters are very reliable. You can sleep with a peaceful mind." Chancellor Gustav was pacifying the annoyed king. His mood changed instantly at the mention of Alucard Winslow.
"Alright. You are the only man I could trust. I will take a rest now. Just deal with this matter as soon as possible." King Zaraki waved his hand, dismissing his chancellor.

Meanwhile, Caleb’s group and Rolando’s group, who were on the run, stopped by their nearby hideout after leaving the capital.
"We need to treat their wounds first!" Caleb said, putting Franco down on the wooden bed.
Miles was taking care of his brother, Dillon. Both Franco and Dillon looked pale after losing too much blood.
"Let me help you. Here... use this medicine." Rolando assisted Caleb in tending the wounds of their injured comrades.
Meanwhile, Randolf was punching the wall outside the house.
"I failed them. I wasn’t able to help. Lambert is gone. General Alaric is captured. Dillon and Franco are severely injured. I’m useless." Randolf lamented, blaming himself.
"I’m going to kill that traitor chancellor from Eldara!" He shouted.
Miles approached Randolf, grabbing his shoulders. "Bro, stop hurting yourself. You have to reserve your energy! You need to be strong!"
He knew how he felt. Miles could relate to that feeling. They almost got caught by the enemy’s soldiers, but they managed to escape just because of Alaric’s help. They were supposed to die for their General’s safety. For them, Alaric’s life was more important than their lives.
"Forgive me, Miles. I’m being emotional right now. I just didn’t know how to face Princess Eve after this. How can we tell her about what happened to General Alaric? I could already imagine how she would react," Randolf said. He punched his chest over and over again. He expressed his fear and concern for Princess Eve.
Miles could already tear up, thinking about Alaric.
"Randolf, what will happen to General Alaric now? I’m scared. What if they had already killed him? Princess Eve will be heartbroken. Just like you, I don’t know how I will deliver this tragic news to our princess."
Randolf took a deep sigh, shifting his gaze inside the house. He saw Caleb and Rolando treating Dillon and Franco’s wounds.
"Send a message to your elder brother, Michael. Inform him first about the failure of our mission. He needs to relay this message to Kingdom Averion so that they can prepare for the consequences of this failed mission. Also, inform him that the enemy captured General Alaric." Randolf instructed Miles on what they needed to do next.
"Okay, sir. I will do that." Miles immediately searched for a parchment paper and a quill pen.
"Are we going to hide this from Princess Eve? Can’t we send them the same message?" Miles consulted him.
Randolf shook his head. "No. Don’t tell Princess Eve. She is being targeted by King Zaraki. But we must inform Black Hunter Gideon of the situation. General Alaric told me that if we failed our mission tonight, we must inform Gideon and order him to take Princess Eve away from Kingdom Zephyra."
