The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 124: Suicide or Murder

Chapter 124: Suicide or Murder

The Averion Palace was in uproar because of Gavin’s sudden death. The news spread like a wildfire.

Duke Ravenmoor and his brother, General Victor Ravenmoor, headed to the palace to see Gavin’s body.

"How did this happen to my son? Who murdered my son?!" Duke Ravenmoor screamed hysterically after seeing Gavin’s lifeless body.

"My Lord... he took poison, killing himself..."

The servant who was serving Gavin kneeled in front of them as he presented Gavin’s suicide note.

Duke Ravenmoor’s hands trembled as he accepted Gavin’s suicide note. He had never imagined that his son would kill himself.

"Why? Why?!" Duke Ravenmoor screamed hysterically before passing out.

Princess Aliyah also fainted after hearing the news. She was now resting in her chamber.

Queen Amara commanded the servants to prepare for Gavin’s funeral. The kingdom was mourning because of Gavin’s death.

Worried about her daughter, Queen Amara dropped by her pavilion to see Aliyah. She had just regained her consciousness when Queen Amara entered the room.

"Mother... My husband is gone!" Aliyah mumbled, sobbing uncontrollably.

Queen Amara immediately hugged Aliyah. She knew how much she loved Gavin. A few years ago, because of Aliyah, she arranged Eve’s marriage to Alaric because Gavin proposed to marry Eve, instead of Aliyah.

"You have to be strong, Aliyah," Queen Amara comforted her daughter. She was her favorite child among the royal siblings.

Aliyah could only bob her head as she buried her face on her mother’s chest.

"You should take a rest. I will handle Gavin’s funeral. Your Father-in-law, Duke Ravenmoor is here together with General Victor Ravenmoor. You can talk to them later."

Aliyah nodded as she lay down on the bed. Queen Amara looked at her worriedly for one last time before leaving her quarters.

Queen Amara talked to Victor Ravenmoor, telling him to wait while Princess Aliyah was still gathering her emotions. She was devastated because of Gavin’s death.

The Eldara’s envoy also heard the piece of bad news. Crown Prince Cassian and Princess Thalia went to the palace hall to offer their condolences to the royal family.

"King Solomon, with the things happening in this palace, I think it’s time for us to leave. We won’t hassle you anymore. Besides, my sister is safe. Our parents wanted to see her back to Eldara." Crown Prince Cassian bade his farewell to King Solomon.

Princess Thalia was surprised by her brother’s sudden decision. She thought they would stay longer in Kingdom Averion. She would like to object but Prince Cassian’s warning gaze made her shut her mouth.

"I understand, Crown Prince Cassian. Forgive us for our shortcomings in hosting you here in our kingdom. As long as I want you to stay longer, our kingdoms need to prepare for the upcoming war. Kingdom Zephyra is a big threat to our kingdoms."

King Solomon understood the severity of the situation. A lot of bad things kept happening lately. But he was most worried about the impending war.

"That is one of the reasons why I decided to go back soon. I wonder if there is a way to negotiate with Kingdom Zephyra. But with King Zaraki’s temperament, he is not going to cooperate with us."

Princess Thalia could only purse her lips as she listened to her brother.

"Then we need to be escorted back to our kingdom! King Solomon, please send General Alaric to escort us!" Princess Thalia requested.

However, this time King Solomon couldn’t comply with Thalia’s request.

"Forgive me, Princess Thalia. But I can’t deploy General Alaric to escort you. He is needed here. I will send some royal guards."

Princess Thalia was not happy to hear that. Before she could utter another word, Prince Cassian cut her off instantly.

"King Solomon, we appreciate your support. We won’t hassle you now. We are preparing to depart today."

"Take care on your journey back home. We will send you a message if ever we need your assistance. Let me send you off." King Solomon planned to send them off at the palace entrance gate.

As the Eldara’s envoy left the palace, Alaric and Eve arrived. They also heard what happened to Gavin.

Eve was silent when they entered the palace.

"What are you thinking, Princess?" Alaric asked her in a low voice. "Are you sad about Gavin’s death?"

Eve shook her head. "I’m not sad. But I wonder why he committed suicide. After the incident in the Inn, Gavin locked himself in his quarter. No one had seen him. All we know is that he was very sick."

"Gavin is a proud man. I couldn’t believe that he committed suicide," she added.

Alaric frowned deeply. He had encountered Gavin once. He threatened him. Gavin was someone who was afraid to die.

"Do you think there is foul play here? Instead of suicide, someone deliberately killed him and made it look like he committed a suicide?" Alaric began to speculate.

"I’m not sure. But I have a bad feeling about this. I’m afraid... I caused his death," Eve said, stopping on her track.

Alaric moved closer to her, holding her shoulders. "Hey, don’t say that. Don’t blame yourself. Tell me what’s troubling you."

Eve gazed up, staring at Alaric. "Remember, during the royal hunt, I had an encounter with Aliyah. I told her I knew her crime and I had a witness. What if... she had mistaken Gavin as the witness I was referring to?"

Alaric fell silent for a moment, clenching his fists. He was still furious knowing that Princess Aliyah attempted to hurt Eve during the royal hunt.

If Eve didn’t fight back and threaten Aliyah, she would get in trouble with Aliyah’s complaint. Fortunately, Eve managed to shut Aliyah’s mouth, not revealing the cause of her injury during the royal hunt.

"The palace is not safe. I’m glad I can take you away from the royal family. Though our journey to Kingdom Zephyra is dangerous, I will feel more at ease because you are with me. I will no longer worry about the scheme of your royal siblings."

Eve smiled gleefully upon hearing that. "Yes. I am also happy that you decided to bring me with you, my brave knight. I don’t want to get separated from you again."

Alaric, who was usually cold and expressionless, suddenly blushed at her words.

’Damn. She really knows how to make my heart flutter.’
