The Growth of a Titan
Chapter 92- He’ll Never…

Chapter 92: Chapter 92- He’ll Never...

Son couldn’t sleep.

His nightmares were too horrid and it would bring him back to that day.

But he also couldn’t stay awake either as he would see hallucinations of them cursing at him.

So he could only drink until he was so drunk he couldn’t see them while staying awake, and forcefully keep himself from falling asleep.

As long as he didn’t have to see their pale and bloody faces he would do anything.

Sol glanced at Son’s wrist which was revealed when he went to pour wine into the two cups once again.

He froze when he saw scars on it.

For a scar to be left on a cultivator’s body meant the cut was extremely deep.

Son poured two cups of wine and down the first one.

It looked like he wasn’t drunk enough to be seeing them again.

Sol looked at the cup of wine in front of him.

This must be wine cultivators’ drink. It was brewed using medicinal plants rich in Aether energy.

That was the only way a cultivator could get drunk.

Sol had never tasted regular wine before, much less cultivator wine.

So safe to say when he grabbed the cup and down the whole thing, his throat wasn’t just on fire, it was set ablaze.

Sol went into a massive coughing fit that sounded like he was about to die.

He shouldn’t have done that.

Son paused and looked at the empty cup Sol had just put down.

He thought this was another hallucination in front of him, but clearly, it wasn’t.

Son finally looked up and saw Sol.

His expression was first filled with confusion, but when Sol recovered from his coughing fit and turned to him, Son’s eyes visibly lit up.

"Brother Sol?"

"Cough... Cough... Brother Son, as promised I came to visit you, I hope I’m not intruding."

Son wanted to smile, but the muscles in his face were so stiff he physically couldn’t. He also wanted to stand up to hug Sol but he could forget about moving this tired body.

"B-Brother Sol, I’m glad you came to see me. But I really don’t want Brother Sol to see like this, I am too ashamed."

Son’s voice cracked as he said that and he lowered his head.

Sol wiped his lips and then looked at Son.

"Brother Son, can I ask you what happened when we parted ways?"

Sol saw Son’s shoulders and his hand holding the wine jar started trembling, so he hurriedly said.

"But if it’s too much then you don’t have to tell me, let’s just drink this wine. I think if I drink a few more cups I’ll get used to it."

Sol took the wine jug from Son and personally poured both of them a cup full.

Sol was smart this time so he took sips, meanwhile, Son held the cup and didn’t drink it.

He remained silent, but Sol didn’t try to fill the silence.

Maybe the thing Son needed at the moment was someone to keep him company. Sol would gladly be that person.

Time went by as the silence persisted between the two.

Sol was about four cups of wine in when Little Zeel suddenly leap onto the table.

He tried to taste the wine in Sol’s cup but Sol pull it away from him.

"No, I don’t know how your body will react to this much concentration of Aether energy. It might not be good for you."

Little Zeel seem to frown, but he only got up and walked over to the side of the table.

After some time, Little Zeel glanced at Sol to see he was too busy drinking to pay attention to him. So he got up and walked over to Son who hadn’t drunk his cup of wine yet.

Little Zeel slowly approached him and he looked at Son to see if he would react. After, he bent down and lick the wine in his cup.

However, after three licks Little Zeel pulled his mouth away from the cup and scrunched up his face.

As if he couldn’t take the taste of the wine, Little Zeel stuck out his tongue and began using his paws to wipe the taste off.

He really didn’t like the taste.

Because of his actions, Sol caught Little Zeel in the act.

Sol glared at his pet and was about to reprimand him for his actions, but Son suddenly lifted his hand and began rubbing Little Zeel’s green fur.

Little Zeel didn’t mind Son’s actions and even drew closer.

Sol smiled at this and continue to sip his wine.

Little Zeel shifted his body to dictate where Son scratch his fur, however, Little Zeel suddenly felt something wet fell on him.

He looked up and saw that it was tears.

Son was crying.

Son quickly raised his sleeve and wiped his tears.

Sol was about to take another sip, but upon seeing this he placed his cup down.

Little Zeel tilted his head as he looked at Son. He only had a connection with Sol so this was his first time realizing something might be wrong with Son.

"Awoo... Awoo..."

Little Zeel used his palm to pat Son’s hand that was holding the cup of wine. After which, he got up and walked over to Sol.

"Is he trying to comfort me?"

Son looked up shocked to see Sol nod.

"Really? Doesn’t that show he has intelligence? Not many Spirit Beasts are that smart to understand us humans."

"Little Zeel is kind of special."

Sol said as he looked at Little Zeel who puffed out his chest.

Son watched Little Zeel’s actions with further shock.

"So his name is Little Zeel. I remember I saw him back then when I first met Brother Sol, what type of Spirit Beast is he?"

Sol smiled bitterly and shook his head.

"I’m not too sure myself."

"Oh, then he’s a new species from the Demonic Forest?"

Sol nodded.

"I see, I’ve heard from my sister that more and more people are finding beast companions from the Demonic Forest. Some of the Spirit Beasts there are violent, but some are surprisingly calm and make great pets."

"Have you ever left your room to see the outside world?"

Son shook his head.

"I’m too afraid to leave. Everywhere I go I see their faces. That’s why I had to leave the Huashan Sect, it’s too much for me to stay there."

After a few seconds of silence, Son picked at his fingers and said while lowering his head.

"You know Brother Sol, Seon, and Song-Oh were together?"

Sol didn’t respond, it wasn’t what Son needed. He just wanted someone to listen to him so he remain silent and just let him talk.

"They think I didn’t know and tried to hide it from me, but of course, I found out. I think they were just embarrassed about telling me. They never got along when all of us first met when we entered the Huashan Branch Sect, but I guess they found more things in common with each other than the things they argue about."

Son suddenly stopped talking, and his head dipped even more.

His soft sobs echoed out before he croaked out.

"I was about to die but he took the blow for me. I held him in my arms as he told me to save the girl he loved. But... But I failed. He trusted me to save Seon but I just let her die. I regret it every day that I didn’t die with them, but no matter how I regret it, Song-Oh will... he’ll never forgive me...*sobs*"
