Chapter 91: Chapter 91- Completely Unrecognizable
The girl looked at Sol and asked; still glaring.
"Who are you?"
Sol retrieved his hand from the girl’s grasp and responded.
"I already told you, my name is Sol. I am a disciple from the Martial Alliance Academy and I’m a friend of Brother Son who came here to visit him."
The girl hearing this immediately wore a skeptical expression.
"You’re lying, there’s no way my brother has a friend this handsome."
Sol looked taken aback when he heard that.
"I... uh, thanks?"
Sol didn’t know what else to say, this girl was extremely strange.
He then turned to go back to the double doors.
"No, wait!"
The girl grabbed his sleeve to prevent him from going back.
Sol ignored the girl and just continue to walk towards the double doors.
The girl was a cultivator as well, but it seems she was nowhere as strong as Sol to stop him.
When they were at the door, however, the girl jumped in front of Sol to block his path with her arms outstretched.
"You can’t go in, my brother says he doesn’t want anyone to visit him!"
Sol’s brows creased.
"I know you’re lying, the guard told me no one has visited him for the past year."
Maybe Son had indeed said he didn’t want anyone to visit him, but Sol felt more that the girl was just lying to stop him from entering.
Sol shifted his body to go around the girl before he push the double doors.
They were open.
Sol was about to enter, but the girl had a look of panic appear on her face before she suddenly wrapped her arms around Sol’s torso and refused to let him go.
"What are you doing?"
Sol looked down at this strange girl.
"Why do you not want me to enter so badly?"
"Because you aren’t my brother’s friend!"
Sol hearing this released a sigh.
This girl couldn’t be reasoned with, but he thought there must be some reason for her actions.
Sol paused entering Son’s room and asked the girl who was still holding him.
"Why do you think I’m not Brother Son’s friend?"
"My brother doesn’t have any friends. The only friends he ever had in the Huashan Branch Sect are elder brother Song-Oh and sister Seon, but they’re not here anymore. I don’t know who you are but you aren’t my brother’s friend!"
Sol was about to sigh once again, but he suddenly thought of something after thinking about the girl’s words more carefully.
"Doesn’t Brother Son have any friends outside of the Huashan Branch Sect?"
The girl’s eyes were closed as she shook her head buried in Sol’s chest.
"He doesn’t, those people aren’t his friends because I heard them in the city talking badly about my brother after the incident. They just befriend him because he’s the son of the City Lord."
Sol finally understood what was going on.
"Were you the one preventing people from visiting Brother Son?"
The girl nodded her head.
Sol was at first a little annoyed of the girl, but he realize she was just trying to protect her brother.
"It’s okay, I’m not one of those people. I met Brother Son a year ago before I knew his identity. I think it was some time before the incident."
When the girl heard that she shook her head.
"If you really met him at such a time, then if he sees you then it’ll just be more painful for him."
Sol raised his hand and placed it on the girl’s head.
Even though Sol could tell she was slightly older than him, she was still a head shorter than him.
"I really need to meet your brother. We made a promise that I would come visit him when I come to Jianghu. I know you’re worried but I promise I won’t do anything to harm him."
The girl felt Sol rubbing her heard to comfort her, and she was first about to stop him. However, when the girl looked up and saw Sol’s smile, her heart moved and she instead tighten her hold around him.
The way Sol spoke and how attentive his gaze was when he looked at her, cause the girl to feel strange. It wasn’t the protective feeling her father gave her, or was it the playful feeling of her brother when she hugged them both.
The feeling Sol gave her was a first her.
As for Sol, he was just comforting her the same way he used to comfort Amon. He thought it would be effective to clam her down and it looked like it worked.
"Is it okay if I enter?"
Sol asked, and the girl snapped out of her slight daze.
She reluctantly let go of Sol and took a step back.
"I-It’s fine."
The girl stutter out as she lowered her head and use her long black hair to hide her blushing expression.
Sol smiled and patted her head once more, which caused her to lower her head even further. He then turned and pushed the door open.
After the girl heard the door close shut, she turned and ran away.
Inside the room, Sol looked around and felt sadness rise in his heart.
Could this even be called a room?
The furnitures were merely scattered pieces of wood on the floor.
Empty jars of wine numbering in the dozens were all over the ground.
The walls had many sword marks on it, like someone had a grudge against it’s color.
There was also a horrid stench that permeated the room as well.
Sol tried not to mind it as he walked further into the room.
He soon saw a bed that had the covers thrown onto the floor to mix with male garments that had probably been there for several months.
Sol walked further into the room until he came upon a section that lead to an open courtyard.
There he saw a disheveled figure seated around a table pouring two cups of wine.
He was alone, so that second cup of wine was down by him as well.
Sol took Little Zeel off his head and place him down at another table nearby. He then walked over to sit at the seat across from Son.
Sol had a good look at his face now and the sadness in his heart grew.
Son was completely unrecognizable from a year ago.
His eyes were sunken in likely from a lack of sleep. He looked a little emaciated as well, likely from not eating.
Sol could see a few untouched plates of food in the room that had mold on them.
As Sol was observing Son, Son himself had his head down, but Sol could still see the unshaven stubbles on his face.
Despite the fact that someone just entered his room and took a seat in front of him, he didn’t react and only kept his head down.
His eyes were so listless Sol wondered if he even registered that someone was in front of him.
