Chapter 370: Chapter 370- A Point System
Ushi slowly opened his eyes.
His vision was blurry for a moment, but his eyes soon adjusted, and he came to stare at a ceiling. He felt himself lying on something soft, so he concluded he was inside a room lying on a bed.
But whose?
Flap.
Ushi suddenly heard what sounded like the page of a book being flipped. He slightly turned his head to the right to see Yoon-Jae.
He was seated on a chair with one leg over the other, while a book was balanced on his thigh. His head was tilted to the side and was resting on his fist, the elbow of which was on a table beside him.
The hair on the left side of his face was tucked behind his ear so it wouldn’t block his view of the book on his leg. This gave Ushi a clear view of his face.
Ushi’s gaze lingered on Yoon-Jae for a moment before he glanced around.
They were in a bedroom. It wasn’t small, but it wasn’t large either. There was a window to Ushi’s left. The white curtains were parted, allowing the rays of the sunlight to shine into the room, bathing everything inside with a soft golden hue.
However, the direct sunlight landed on the ground, just out of reach of the bed.
Ushi thought this was a weird place to put the bed.
It wasn’t to the side of the room, or exactly in the middle. No doubt this layout of the room would cause bad Feng Shui to develop here.
The position of the bed from the window made it seem as if the owner was annoyed by the sun shining on them through the window in the morning.
Underneath the window was a small desk. There, Ushi saw a dozen or so books haphazardly placed down with a lamp next to them. There was dust on some of the books as well.
From this, one could imagine that the owner of this room must have sat there reading books all day until an ungodly hour of the night before going to bed. Perhaps they had even fallen asleep there on most occasions.
However, from the dust there, it seems this desk hadn’t been in use for a while.
Ushi continued to look around and his gaze landed on a movable divider in a corner of the room. It looked like it was where someone would bathe.
The robes over the divider and the faint smell of wetness in the room proved this notion to be true.
But from its odd position in the room, and its contrast to everything around it, it seems it was placed there after this room was built rather than it being an artistic choice by the room’s creator.
With such a big bedroom, there would usually be a separate bathroom in this house. But for some reason, the person living here chose to bathe here instead.
Ushi caught a glimpse of one pair of over-the-ankle shoes and a stray indoor shoe to the side of the divider.
Given that the over-the-ankle pair of shoes would be taken off and the indoor shoes would be worn after the person bathed, it would be weird for a stray indoor shoe to be there.
Unless it wasn’t there to be worn but was there for something else.
Judging by the cleanliness of the room, Ushi was sure it was accidentally left there. So, that only narrowed down the uses of that indoor shoe to one thing... hitting something.
A bug perhaps?
Suddenly, Ushi knew what it was for.
The person must have been afraid of bathing in the house’s bathroom because of bugs so they chose to do so here instead.
But even then, they were still worried enough to bring an indoor shoe here just in case.
There had likely been a time when a bug appeared in the bathroom for this person to be so scared.
Not when they were older, but when this person was young enough for the experience to become a trauma.
Ushi was gifted in deduction, similar to Sol. But that was not a surprise as the children of the Miura Clan were trained to be assassins by honing these traits from the moment they were born.
Ushi’s observation of the room took a long time to explain, but in reality, it was only a brief second. And in that brief moment, he deduced a lot of things about Yoon-Jae he hadn’t known before.
This caused a smile to appear on his lips.
However, the reality of the current situation suddenly hit him as he recalled what happened to him. He suddenly sat up, and with wide eyes, he cried out.
"Am I dead?!"
Ushi turned to look at Yoon-Jae and tears appeared in his eyes.
"Eldest Brother Yoon-Jae, don’t tell me it didn’t work, and you died along with me?"
Yoon-Jae’s brows creased.
"Don’t be stupid."
Hearing that, Ushi seemed to sigh. He then looked around and asked.
"So, are you the reward I get after I’ve come to the afterlife?"
Ushi turned back to look at Yoon-Jae with an excited expression on his face. However, Yoon-Jae snorted and said.
"So even in the afterlife, you would have continued to act like a fool."
Ushi blinked at that before asking.
"So, am I not dead?"
"Obviously you’re not."
"Really?"
Ushi touched his chest and indeed he felt his heart beating normally. However, he also felt something else.
"It’s weak, but the link is still there, looks like I failed to remove it."
Ushi turned to look at Yoon-Jae with a worried expression, however, Yoon-Jae said without looking up from his book.
"It’s fine, just leave it like that."
Ushi paused upon hearing that and stared at Yoon-Jae in a daze for a moment. Then, his face slowly began lighting up.
"Does that mean-"
"No."
Yoon-Jae firmly cut Ushi off with a rejection.
The hope Ushi was developing shattered in an instant and his shoulders slumped. His expression was despondent as he collapsed back onto the bed.
Feeling depressed, Ushi turned to his side to watch Yoon-Jae read his book.
After a moment, his gaze lowered onto the bed, and he started tracing the hills and valleys the gray sheet made as it covered the bed.
But suddenly, Ushi’s nose twitched as a familiar scent wafted from the pillow below him and into his nose.
He glanced at Yoon-Jae, and after seeing that he was still reading his book, Ushi turned his head and gently sniffed the pillow.
A smile appeared on his lips as he closed his eyes.
However, that smile soon disappeared as Yoon-Jae’s rejection surfaced in his mind.
Ushi tried not to remember it as it felt like his heart was being shattered all over again.
It wasn’t a great feeling.
Ushi released a sigh before he went back to staring at the sheet. His finger soon started roaming over the blanket, destroying the hills and valleys to create new ones.
Yoon-Jae finally looked up from his book to glance at Ushi. He then chuckled when he saw his face and went back to reading his book as he said.
"Your expression looks like what a dog would make if they were beaten by a stick."
"Can I help it?"
Ushi muttered in response.
Yoon-Jae paused reading his book to glance up at him.
Sighing, Yoon-Jae closed the book and said.
"Fine, since you said your feelings are genuine then I’ll give you a chance to prove it."
Ushi’s body shook, and he suddenly shot up into a sitting position.
"R-Really?"
Ushi was so excited that he was about to jump off the bed and run over to hug Yoon-Jae, however, Yoon-Jae suddenly said.
"Let me just stop you right there before you get your hopes up again. I only agreed to give you a chance, there will be rules to this thing."
"Rules?"
Ushi’s excitement lessened quite a bit, but he was still happy for a chance nonetheless.
Nodding, Yoon-Jae explained.
"There will be a point system based on your actions from now on. If you do something I don’t like, points will be deducted. If you do something I like, then points will be added. The number of points added or deducted is based on how I feel about your actions. If you manage to reach a hundred points then I’ll accept your feelings, but if you drop to zero then you can forget about us ever being together."
Ushi paused at that before he slowly asked.
"How many points do I have now?"
Yoon-Jae opened back his book to start reading again as he responded.
"You started with ten points."
"Ten points? That’s so low Eldest Brother Yoon-Jae."
Ushi immediately whined.
"That’s only what you started with, now you have seven points remaining."
"Huh?!"
Ushi was dumbfounded.
"T-That’s so unfair, how did I lose three points already?!"
"Didn’t you just sniff my pillow?"
Ushi froze and an embarrassed expression appeared on his face.
"Since you’ve already recovered, then you can leave now."
Yoon-Jae said, and it was now Ushi realized that his severe injuries from before were completely gone.
"My injuries weren’t light, how long was I unconscious?"
Ushi said getting up.
"Just an hour, I called Sol over to heal you."
Ushi was at first shocked that he was only out for an hour and not a few days or even months, but hearing that Sol was the one who healed him, he figured it made sense.
"The door’s that way. You don’t have to worry about locking the gate after you leave the courtyard."
Yoon-Jae pointed at the exit without looking up from his book.
Ushi glanced at the door leading out, however, he hesitated. Looking over at Yoon-Jae, he walked over to stand in front of him.
After pausing for a moment, he asked softly.
"Can I just stay here with you, Eldest Brother Yoon-Jae?"
