Chapter 358: Chapter 358- You Will Die Without A Shadow Of A Doubt
"On our Western Continent, the Four Races consists of the Human Race, the Elvian Race, the Dwarven Race, and finally the Beast Race."
Altair lifted his four fingers as he listed off the Four Races.
As he did, Sol’s eyes flickered unnoticeably before he nodded.
Taking this as a signal to continue, Altair smiled and said.
"In the distant past of our Western Continent, there was a time in our history books called ’The Great Magic Era’ and similarly the Church calls it the Great Divine Era. However, this is them trying to erase their history. In truth, during that Era, our Noble Families ruled over the Western Continent and even the churches had to be respectful towards us."
As Altair spoke, a fanatical look appeared in his eyes. It was obvious he idolized that distant past.
However, the disciples below couldn’t understand his fanaticism since he was speaking the Western Continent’s language.
Quilt also had a look of fanaticism appear in his eyes.
Altair then continued.
"Among the Noble Families, there were those from all Four Races, with our Elvian Race being the strongest of them since our affinity for Magic is unmatched!"
Altair seemed to puff out his chest when he said that.
Quilt looked at him and snorted. However, he didn’t offer a retort as it was all too true, but that was in the past.
Altair, hearing Quilt’s snort, smiled bitterly as he looked at Sol and said.
"However, during the height of the Great Magic Era, disaster struck. It was called the Great Calamity. There are no records of what exactly this calamity was, however, it was extremely terrifying. It completely wiped away all the Magic Sorcery research on the Western Continent. All the Mana on the continent was also corrupted and if one tried to absorb it, they would find themselves mutating into hideous creatures. Ever since then we were never able to recover the lost Magic and had to start over from scratch."
When Sol heard that, he couldn’t help but have his eyes narrowed.
’The Great Calamity? Why does this situation sound similar to what happened here on the Eastern Continent in the past?’
Altair suddenly smiled and said.
"I’ve read the books that spoke about the Immortals that existed on your Continent but had suddenly disappeared. The time of the Great Calamity correlates to when they vanished so I think whatever happened during that time affected both our Continents."
Altair then shrugged his shoulders and said.
"With that said, it’s not our place to put too much thought into this. After that barrier disappeared, a lot of strange things have been discovered when we compare our past. Those old-timers are probably looking into it. As for how our Continent is now, the Church and the Noble Families are now independent, while the three Races have been enslaved by the Human Race."
Quilt laughed scornfully when he heard that.
"Enslave? You all willing came under our banner; we didn’t force you to do so."
Unlike before when Altair looked scared of Quilt, his eyes blazed with indignation and anger as he said.
"You might as well have forced us to join you. And after we did, we become nothing more than breeding tools for you bastards to increase your magic talent!"
With an indifferent expression, Quilt said.
"Oh, is the Crown Prince of the Lancaster Family thinking of rebelling against the Four Race Alliance?"
Altair’s face went ashen, and he gritted his teeth.
"What Four Races Alliance? At this point, it’s just the Human Race."
After muttering that, Altair turned to see that Sol had a confused expression on his face. Smiling, he explained.
"After the Great Calamity, the founder of the Beorhtric Family stumble upon a Demonic Dragon that survived the Great Calamity. He was somehow able to gain its recognition and received its bloodline and Magic Arts. With that he single-handedly rebuilt the Human Race, teaching his descendants Magic Arts that’s come to be known as Sorcery. There were no longer Mages, now they were called Warlocks. People who draw power from Demons and Devils. After that, he reached out a helping hand to the other races. The corrupt Mana was also prominent on the Continent, but he was able to use his sorcery to create several Cities that could filter out the corruption and allow pure Mana inside the cities."
From how Altair was speaking, it could be seen that he greatly admired this person.
However, he suddenly smiled bitterly and said.
"However, the Beorhtric Family’s founder’s good intentions turned into maliciousness after he died. The Beorhtric Family went from promoting unity to demanding subservience. Even going as far as wanting to marry off the children with the greatest potential from the other races to their own children. Given, things have gotten better after some leadership changes, but the damage was already done. Some of the high-ranking members of the Dwarven, Elvian, and Beast Race tried to escape. However, they underestimated the corrupt mana outside the Cities, almost all of them were wiped out before they could reach the Church’s territory."
At this point, Altair’s voice was soft, and a despondent expression was on his face.
His expression soon turned into a mixture of bitterness and mockery as he said.
"And you know what Brother Sol? It would have been fine now since the three races had established a foundation in the Cities thanks to the Beorhtric Family, and had even become three of the most powerful Royal Families. However, up until this point, they refused to admit what they did, and instead said we misunderstood their intentions. That they only wanted the Four Races to be bonding together through marriage."
Altair then shook his head.
Meanwhile, Quilt chose to remain silent by the side. It was obvious that even he found what the Beorhtric Family did at that time went overboard. They tried to make the three races choose between servitude or leaving the cities.
They thought the three races would be forced to agree to the marriages and integrate with the Human Race, but even the Beorhtric Family would never have thought the three races would rather choose death than abandon their heritage.
So, the Beorhtric Family and the Human Race as a whole back then had essentially forced a majority of the three races to their deaths.
The Beorhtric Family refused to acknowledge this not because they didn’t believe they were guilty, but because it was too much of a burden to carry. One would have to be there at that time to know how truly bloody those events were, but just the stories depicted in the annals of history were horrifying to read about.
Hundreds of thousands, or perhaps millions of people had died. Women, men, children, the elderly.
It was brutal.
After a moment, Altair calmed his emotions and said to Sol with a smile.
"That’s where my explanation ends. Now, how do you want to do this? Who do you want to challenge you first?"
This time Altair was speaking in Jianghu’s language, and everyone below who was about to zone out jolted and had their eyes shine in anticipation.
Smiling, Sol lifted his hand and extended his index finger as he said.
"The rules remain the same. I’ll be suppressing my cultivation base down to the Mortal Realm, and as long as you can make my feet leave the stage you win. And why go one at a time? Both of you can challenge me at the same time. Come at me."
The sound of the disciples in the surroundings sucking in a cold breath of air could be heard. They were absolutely flabbergasted at Sol’s words. Especially the way he extended his index finger.
It was similar to what he did with Bai Yin and the others, but was he really treating these two as if they were on the same level as Bai Yin and the others?
How domineering!
How forceful!
"How arrogant!"
Quilt said with a snort.
Altair’s expression had also turned gloomy. However, he suddenly smiled and said.
"It’s good to be confident in your skills Brother Sol. But let me give you a piece of advice that is well-known on our Western Continent that you might not know here."
Eyes calm, Altair folded his hands behind his back as he continued.
"When battling a Warlock that wields powerful sorcery, never stay in one place or give them a chance to speak. If you do, you will die without a shadow of a doubt."
BANG!!!
After saying this, a monstrous aura of a spell suddenly erupted from Altair’s body that caused wild winds to sweep across the stage. They even went as far as slamming into the disciples down below.
All of them stumbled back. Some coughed up blood while others were directly knocked unconscious by the force.
With pale faces, the disciples looked up at Altair on the stage with terrified expressions.
A mixture of colors was swirling around him, making him look extremely divine.
At the same time, a black tattoo depicting some sort of sinister ghoul appeared to cover half his handsome face and hands. From that, one could tell this tattoo covered his entire body beneath his clothes.
