Chapter 269: Chapter 269- I’m Sorry For Causing You Trouble
"Dad, I didn’t."
Mar-Yue said as she stood up. Sol stood up as well.
As Mar-Du walked forward he said.
"You didn’t? That’s not what I heard."
"You were eavesdropping on your own daughter?"
Mar-Du hearing this coughed in his fist but explained.
"I only came to see disciple Sol; I did not mean to eavesdrop. But thankfully I did. How can you lie about something like this Mar-Yue?"
Mar-Du returned the focus on Mar-Yue and a worried look appeared on her face.
"Father, I know I lied, and I’m sorry. But I don’t want to become the Tribe Leader."
After stopping in front of Mar-Yue and Sol, Mar-Du extended his hand.
"Let me see."
Mar-Yue felt a sense of helplessness well up in her heart. She was reluctant to show her father her Giant Race bloodline, but Mar-Du repeated.
"Mar-Yue, stop lying to me. I want to see your Giant Race bloodline."
Despite her reluctance, Mar-Yue could not disobey her father. She raised her hand and Mar-Du held it.
After a moment, Mar-Du’s facial expression changed to a shocked look.
"Mar-Yue, how could you hide something like this from me? You’ve gained forty percent of our Giant Race bloodline from the initial twenty percent. Did it really start to increase when you begin your cultivation?"
Mar-Yue nodded silently, and Mar-Du went into thought.
’That means it has doubled in merely a year. If it continues, then she would awaken our full Giant Race bloodline in her late teens. Finally, after years of struggle, my daughter is the one to fully awaken our Giant Race bloodline.’
Mar-Du felt excitement rise in his heart that threatened to drown him. However, he suddenly saw his daughter’s sad expression, and his excitement was quickly squashed.
"Mar-Yue, I understand your unwillingness to become the Tribe Leader, but this is something that will help our Barbarian Race."
Mar-Du’s words were like a hammer that came crashing down on Mar-Yue’s heart, and she felt indignation wash over her.
"Father, I don’t want to become the Tribe Leader. I don’t, I really don’t want to. I’ve already taken brother’s bloodline, how could I take this from him as well?"
Mar-Yue bit her lips and tears streamed down her cheeks as he looked at her father.
Her only hope was that her Father heed her requestion, but as Mar-Du shook his head all that hope evaporated.
"Mar-Yue, you’re young so you might not understand the significance of you awakening your bloodline, but in the future, you will. Mar-Dule was always prepared to hand over the position to either you or Mar-Tala if it ever came to it. Now come, let’s go see the Elders."
Mar-Yue wanted to protest, but she couldn’t. She could only lower her head as Mar-Du held her hand and pulled her to leave.
However, Mar-Yue suddenly felt a hand tug her back. This tug was felt by Mar-Du as well, and the daughter-father pair turned back to see Sol had grabbed Mar-Yue’s hand.
"Sol."
Mar-Yue whispered, but Mar-Du calmly said.
"Son, let go of my daughter."
Sol’s grip tightened around Mar-Yue’s hand as he looked at Mar-Du and said.
"I’m sorry Senior Mar-Du, but I feel like if I let her go now, I might never see her again."
Mar-Du frowned slightly.
"I happened to receive a Deep Autumn Flower from a good friend of mine, so I came here to give it to you. But I suppose my daughter has already gifted both of hers to you. With this, I assume you will be leaving for Jianghu."
Mar-Yue turned to look at Sol worried.
"You’re not leaving so soon, are you?"
While Mar-Yue was looking at Sol, Sol was looking at Mar-Du behind her. His expression seemed as if he was warning Sol of his next answer.
However, Sol inhaled before he looked at Mar-Yue and said with a smile.
"Don’t worry, I won’t be leaving so soon. After all, it’s your birthday."
Mar-Yue beamed when she heard that, but Mar-Du’s emotionless voice was heard saying.
"But after that, you will leave."
Mar-Yue looked at her father confused.
"Dad, what are you saying? Why are insisting that Sol leave?"
After a moment of silence, Mar-Du dropped a bombshell.
"Mar-Yue, I don’t approve of your relationship with disciple Sol. After staying for your birthday, we’ll have to see him off."
Mar-Yue’s entire body went ridged, and she looked at her father as if she was looking at a stranger.
Mar-Du’s face almost faltered when he saw his daughter’s expression, but he instantly steeled his heart. He had to do this, Mar-Yue might hate him for it, but she was going to understand why he did what he did in the future.
"Mar-Yue, let’s go."
Mar-Du said as he tugged on Mar-Yue’s hand.
"Senior Mar-Du, can you tell me why you disapprove of me? Is it that you think I’m unworthy of her?"
Sol said as he tugged back Mar-Yue towards him.
Mar-Du glanced at Sol, his face expressionless as he said.
"Child, I am her father. This is not up for debate."
Mar-Du tugged on his daughter once again, but Sol tugged back not backing down.
"Now that I am no longer useful to you, you plan on casting me aside. Senior Mar-Du, I thought better of you."
Mar-Du’s expressionless face changed for the first time, and his brows came together to form a frown.
His address for Sol was becoming more and more distant, but he suddenly said.
"Sol, you are my son’s friend, so you are welcome to my Tribe at any time. But please stay away from my daughter in the future. You can first start by letting her go."
Tug.
"Senior Mar-Du, I’m sorry but that is something I cannot do."
Tug.
Mar-Yue who was being tugged back and forth almost wanted to laugh at the current situation if not for how serious it was.
After seeing how determined Sol was, Mar-Du frowned deepen as he said.
"Sol, I understand how a boy your age can fall in love my with daughter given her looks, but as a father, I simply do not approve of your fleeting emotions."
Sol shook his head.
"Senior Mar-Du, my emotions aren’t fleeting. I love Mar-Yue, and my feelings are truly sincere. And I would like to believe she feels the same for me."
Mar-Yue’s heart fluttered, and a broad smile was on her lips as she looked at Sol.
However, Mar-Du suddenly turned to Mar-Yue and spoke.
"Mar-Yue, I’m sure you’ll find someone among our Barbarian Race that isn’t lacking to this brat, so give up on him."
Mar-Yue’s expression changed when she heard her father before she immediately shook her head.
"Father, I don’t want to become the Tribe Leader, but you’re forcing me to. What can I do if you insist? But now you want to control who I love; Father I can’t accept that."
Mar-Du’s expression softened.
"Mar-Yue, this isn’t as simple as it seems. The consequence of being with him is the complete severing of any chance our Barbarian Race has of reawakening our Giant Race bloodline."
Sol paused when he heard that, and Mar-Yue couldn’t help but look at her father in shock.
How could being with Sol have such a catastrophic consequence? Mar-Yue couldn’t understand and perhaps thought her father was simply lying.
"Mar-Yue, I’m not lying. You need to choose. Will you stay with him knowing the consequences or come with me?"
Hearing this, a complicated expression appeared on Mar-Yue’s face.
However, she didn’t hesitate to make her decision.
She slipped her hand out of Sol’s grasp and turned to look at him before saying.
"I’m sorry for causing you trouble."
Sol let his hand fall to his side, and a smile appeared on his face.
"You’re not causing me trouble, Mar-Yue."
Mar-Du seeing this released a sigh of relief in his heart. However, before this relief could settle in, he felt Mar-Yue pull her hand out of his grasp.
Mar-Du then watched as Mar-Yue bit her lip and took a step back to stand next to Sol.
"Father, if you want me to become the Tribe Leader then I will. But I’m not so young that I can’t decide who I want to be with."
Mar-Du’s entire body went rigid, and his face contorted into something between an enraged look and a hurtful expression.
This was a countenance any father would have when their daughter chose a boy over them.
