Chapter 158: Chapter 158- Caught Red-handed

Two Weeks Later...

Inside the Hundred Plants and Herbs dimension, the place where the disciples of the Martial Alliance Academy were trapped was called the Inner Regions.

No one from Pearl City was allowed to enter this area, and the Academy made sure of it by creating a Teleportation Array only they could activate.

The citizens of Pearl City were instead allowed to enter the Outer Region, a smaller dimension that had detached from the Hundred Plants and Herbs dimension.

With that said, it didn’t mean this Outer Region was lacking in cultivation resources.

However, not just anyone could enter this dimension.

For the sake of preventing the resources inside from ’running out,’ the local Sects and Clans in the City came together and decided to limit the number of people who could enter the dimension at a time.

Only upwards of five thousand people could enter the dimension a month, and there was an exorbitant fee for one of these ten thousand spots.

This might as well be the local Clans and Sects’ way of saying no one but them should be able to enter this dimension.

As for the Six Holy Sects and Five Great Clans, they didn’t concern themselves with this Outer Region. The Inner Region was where the real cultivation resources were.

However, at this moment, the local Clans and Sects of Pearl City were in an uproar.

The Multidimensional Teleportation Array had suddenly stopped working. This had never happened before so the uproar was expected.

But what these Sects and Clans were worried about was their disciples. They were trapped in the dimension when the Teleportation Array stopped working.

The Elders from the Martial Alliance Academy had assured them it would be fixed soon, but as two weeks went by with nothing being done they were getting antsy.

But then news began to spread that the damage to the Teleportation Array was done by the Demonic Cult, and it got them even more railed up.

Immediately the Clans, but especially the Sects, suddenly began carrying out a massive investigation. If the Demonic Cult’s spy was found to have been hiding among their ranks, then they would face the full brunt of the Martial Alliance Academy’s anger.

Currently, Pearl City was in a state of complete chaos.

As the highest authority of Pearl City, the City Lord couldn’t step foot outside of his mansion without disguising his appearance, or else he would be bombarded with complaints.

In the Pavilion used to register people entering the Outer Region of the dimension, the City Lord entered and went to the top floor.

However, despite disguising himself as a thin old man, someone who saw him enter the Pavilion took out a jade slip and whispered into it.

After reaching the top floor where not many people were allowed, the City Lord approached a room door and knocked on it.

He waited but when he didn’t get a reply he became nervous.

"Bastard! Did he run away?!"

The City Lord was furious and he almost broke the door down to enter the room.

However, when he rushed in expecting to see the room empty, he was shocked to see that it was instead covered in runes.

Dae-Hyun was on his knees craving the last runes on the ground leading towards the door.

When the City Lord barged in, Dae Han who looked completely disheveled with dark circles under his eyes glared at him and barked.

"Look where you’re stepping! Damn it, if I have to start this over because of you I’ll go crazy!!"

The City Lord looked down at his feet to see that he was just moments away from stepping on the runes Dae Han carved on the ground.

"What are you doing?"

The City Lord carefully took several steps back.

Dae Han stopped glaring at the City Lord to go back to carving the runes.

"The item I have to disrupt the Multidimensional Teleportation Array needs these runes to activate. I spent four years studying them just so I can carve them today. It’s already been two weeks and I haven’t stopped for a second. So you better have a good reason for interrupting me!"

As Dae Han spoke his eyes would twitch uncontrollably.

"I-I was only checking up to see what you were doing."

"You’ve checked, now leave."

The City Lord grumbled at Dae Han’s attitude, but as he was about to leave his expression suddenly changed all of a sudden.

Swoosh!

Dae Han felt a strong gale swept through the room, and he almost lost it. He turned to roar at the City Lord but saw him place a finger on his lips to stop him.

Dae Han closed his mouth.

Several seconds later the City Lord looked at Dae Han with a terrified expression.

"What? What is it?

"It’s-It’s Elder Hyun-Joo."

"Huh? Who is that?"

"She’s one of the Elders from the Martial Alliance Academy."

"Yeah, what about her?"

"Her Soul Energy was searching the Pavilion."

"What?!"

Dae Han jumped up shocked.

"SHHHH!!!"

The City Lord harshly shushed Dae Han.

"I covered this room with my Soul Energy to stop her observation. But she might still be able to hear you."

"Well, what does she want, why is she searching this Pavilion?"

The City Lord didn’t immediately answer Dae Han’s question, and he suspect it was because he was having a conversation with this Elder Hyun-Joo.

"Damn it, she was looking for me, how did she know I was here?"

"Bastard, you’re disguise is shit! Hurry up and get rid of her!"

Dae Han angrily yelled under his breath, while he began panicking inside.

"Damn brat, do you know how much I spent on this mask? It’s a high-grade Spirit Treasure that’s close to becoming a Divine Artifact! You-"

The City Lord was about to rant about how disrespectfully Dae Han had been to him, but his face suddenly went pale and he immediately rushed out the door before slamming it shut behind him.

At that same instance, a slender woman with a graceful appearance appeared without a sound in front of the City Lord.

"E-Elder Hyun-Joo, there was no need for you to come personally."

"Why are you in disguise?"

Hyun-Joo ignored the City Lord’s question.

Forcing a smile, the City Lord responded.

"It’s just too much for me to keep up with the current chaos in the City. I can’t even walk out of my home in peace."

Hyun-Joo suddenly glared at the City Lord.

"It seems we’ll have to reconsider your position as Pearl City’s City Lord if you’re willing to shrink away from you’re responsibilities. I came here to request the names of the people who you’ve sold estates to to displace the Mortals."

"Elder Hyun-Joo, I will have someone deliver them to-"

"No, are you trying to shrink away from this as well? Hand me the reports yourself, and you will be the one to repay these people and rebuild the homes of the Mortals you’ve displaced with the City’s expansion."

The City Lord’s eyes widen at that.

"B-But Elder Hyun-Joo, the money I received from those cultivators has already been invested into the expansion of the City. I-I have no money to compen-"

The City Lord was forced to shut up under Elder Hyun-Joo’s fearsome glare.

"Why are you still here when I ask you to go get the names?"

The City Lord’s body shook, but he eventually stepped away from the door he was blocking, though with a bit of hesitation that Elder Hyun-Joo spotted.

She narrowed her eyes upon seeing this.

"What are you hiding in this room? You’ve even covering it with your Soul Energy."

"Ah! Wait Elder Hyun-Joo, my-my son is cultivating inside!"

City Lord almost fainted as he rushed to stop Elder Hyun-Joo from entering the room.

However, he was ignored by her as she started reaching for the door. Panicked he hurriedly added.

"He-He’s about to undergo a breakthrough so... Ah!"

The City Lord released a loud cry when Elder Hyun-Joo still ignored his words and entered the room.
