The Goddess Made A Mistake Again -
Chapter 387 - 387 - Sitting One Out [ Part 1 ]
"I want you to sit still."
"What?"
"Didn't you hear me?" Klein said without a change on his face, "You're going to listen to my order and sit still… just like you said you would."
I look at Klein's face for a while before nodding with a simple smile, "Alright, I'm a man of my word, so I'll sit this one by. No matter what happens."
Klein only nodded and left as I was thinking about his scheme.
'What is he trying to make me understand here?'
'Does he want to establish the chain of commands power over me or is there something else?'
After a while, I simply shrug my shoulder and turn around, 'Patience… all will be understood later… probably.'
With that, I walk to my company. Lucian and the soldiers immediately stood up seeing me, "What's our orders, sir?"
Lucian was the one who asked that.
In the time we have spent together, I slowly put this rank difference between us that even with the pride flowing within him, Lucian didn't try to disobey it.
Right now, he gave me enough respect similar to a corrupted high ranking officer he wanted to finish working under as soon as possible.
But this level of obedience isn't enough to sway me of his inner feelings. I could still feel his burning gaze trying to penetrate me when I turn around.
"We are going to sit this one out guys."
"Hm... Meaning?"
"Meaning, exactly that." I reply, "That's captain Klein's orders."
"And you are not going to do anything else?" Lucian asked with a confused look. He was trying to check if Henry was making fun of him or not.
"Why? Do you think that I am someone who will disobey my senior officer because I want to?"
'Yes!'
That's what everyone wanted to say but kept their mouth shut.
It was better to sew off one's mouth, rather than fire a volley that would comeback 10 times stronger.
"Not at all." They said in unison yet I heard how their voices croak at the words.
"Yeah, you guys suck at lying." They sheepishly avoid me.
"So are we really going to not do anything?" Lucian asked again as I shook my head.
"Nope, absolutely nothing. Just like Lord Commander wants me not to."
Lucian nodded, trusting that adhering to Seman would only lead to good things.
"Okay, let's go." I stand up as they look confused again.
"Where are we going?"
"To bring my sword and then onto the battlefield."
"I'm sorry for intruding sir." One of the soldiers raised his hand, "But didn't you just say, you won't do anything in this battle?"
"Of course and I will stay based on that."
"Then why are we going there?"
"Captain Klein said not to do anything in the battle, but he didn't say about not enjoying it now, did he?"
Lucian and the soldiers understood as one sighed and the others grinned at my words.
"Make sure to bring one of those delicious chicken legs, I'm hungry after all this fucking traveling."
…
Klein stood atop his warhorse and looked at the plain grounds where the bandit base was. The place was protected with multiple sigmat barriers and there were enemies ready to attack them from the distance.
Then he looked sideways to one corner far from the battlefield and saw a strange scene.
Henry and his group comfortably rested on the ground and looked at them. In their hands, foods and delicacies that Klein had prepared for the soldiers to enjoy after winning this battle.
Klein sighed seeing Henry acting so laid back like that.
'At least he's listening.'
"Captain" He heard a familiar tone and saw that it was his second, Lieutenant Oppet.
"What is it?"
"Just here to relay that all the men are ready to act exactly as you said."
Klein nodded and looked at the base again. It was a well-protected base with long range attacks that would prove detrimental for any army. But he would get his victory.
"Sir" Oppet called him again, "Is it wise to let him act like that?"
Klein didn't need to see to understand that Oppet was talking about Henry.
"Let him be. Pretend as he's just a simple bystander spectating the battle."
"Yes… but I heard tales about him." Oppet said, remembering what the reports said, "He's said to be a strong fighter."
"I have no doubt that he is strong, but that doesn't mean he'll be helpful for us. Besides…" Klein closed his visor and looked at Oppet, "Do you think we would need someone like him to win this battle."
Oppet instantly denied, "Of course not! Our men are more than prepared to clean those grass snakes."
"Good, prepare the horn, we're going for battle!" Klein said and not even a minute later, a loud trumpet bellowed.
With that, the soldiers chorus of roars came out and they ran towards the enemy.
Their sprint surprised the enemy, who thought that they would be wise enough to not take the frontal route.
Klein on the other hand, stayed back with his second-in-command and the backup.
The bandits didn't let their surprise overwhelm them as they immediately started firing arrows at the soldiers. Some of the arrows even had fire, air or some other affinity attached to it.
"SHIELDS!" Oppet gave a loud order.
"Hah!" Every soldier gave a low hum as they raised their shields to protect themselves. Yet, a few causalities couldn't be stopped as they were simply too late or their attacks were too fast to block.
Their armors were huge and strong enough to protect them. But it was also too big enough for it to become a problem for them.
But after the first three or four shots, the other soldiers gripped on to their shield tightly as they held firm ground. No matter how many arrows came, their long and dense shields were tough enough to deflect them.
…
On the other side of the battlefield
Henry cleanly licked the bone of a chicken leg as he watched the ongoing battle with mild interest. Lucian and the soldiers beside him were actually much more interested.
"Ahh… that guys luck, right in the damn generation pole." He clicked his tongue in pity.
"Screw that guy, look at the others, they're holding on to their shields so firmly against those nonstop arrows. Even we couldn't hold on without having more causalities."
"Of course not. We're not trained in that way brother. The only thing we need to be good at is," The soldiers kissed his hammer, "is busting heads."
"Right on!"
"Correct, Brother!"
The navigator sprayed cold water on them, "Would bashing heads save you from a speeding arrow?"
They immediately went quiet, "In fights like this, you need to be smart or you'll die quickly."
"But that still doesn't tell me why they are standing there and not attacking?" The navigator scratched his head, "Don't they have any countermeasures?"
"They're probably waiting for an opening." Lucian said, "Look how all the soldiers are standing at their places together. I can't see that much from here but I don't think they are actually worried of their situation."
"What do you think, Hen- My lord?" Lucian asked.
"Hmm?" I turn to him, "You're asking me?"
"Yes"
"Well… before I answer that tell me, do you think Klein could actually win in such a situation?" I ask before turning to the navigator.
"And why the hell are you still stalking me?"
