The God of Jesters

Chapter 300: 5.09.1 The Act.

A small mansion in the outskirts of the city which was previously owned by a farming family. And true to their name and habit, the giant mansion was barely furnished or painted at all. It looked ugly by comparison to a proper mansion and it can even be treated as a family housing made for extended family, which it was originally.

But currently, this place was occupied by Remira and her entourage, along with Rashid who didn’t know how he was going to enter the ruins.

The issue was not the act itself or the lack of knowledge. It was that they just can’t go out and expose the place they will be looking into, as they only have one chance. One chance to be ahead of Jester and one chance to keep him blind.

If only, they could set foot outside and explore the notes when the adventuring culture was still alive in the city. With many setting foot inside the ruins to strike it rich.

Since those days, after the outer area was thoroughly searched for any valuables, no one dared to venture any deeper, even including Master or Grandmaster level figures among knights, or the Archmages who held some curiosity towards the oddity that was these ruins, aptly known among the masses Ruin of Phuket.

And that’s what it was called, for no one had ever been able to really learn what its true name was.

"I don’t know where you obtained such information, but I lived here for years, and I have heard the stories. As long as you venture into the ruins, there is a chance of disappearing. There is a reason the area had been cordoned off by the military." An old man said while looking at Rashid, who was still new to this city. Which was not wrong. The hearsay he heard from his school friends who grew up on propaganda could not be trusted, unlike the Radiant Eye member like the old man in front of him.

He had lived through that time, he knows what happened a decade ago more than him. So there was no way for Rashid to counter his words.

"What to do in such a situation? I don’t think we can delay it any further."

"You wish to blindly enter that place, and die then? If you wish for it, go ahead. But don’t drag Captain with you into that hell."

The regular deaths and the lack of information about the Ruins have always kept the locals scared. And being part of the Grey eyes, the old man was a lot more informed about the situation here than it appeared on the surface. "I know you are desperate, but you should reconsider if it is truly worth going inside."

"I have no other choice, not after coming this far."

Sheva had long distanced herself from this topic, she kept away from the Radiant eyes who had grouped up in this small mansion, along with them.

As for the reason why they would expose themselves and live them with?

It was simple, the moment Jester became active in this place, it became dangerous for people of their kind to remain safe. For as long as they fall sleep, Jester would be able to learn of their true intentions and validate if they are spies or not.

So the moment Remira was sure that something of this nature had happened, she had ordered all the active Radiant Eye members to congregate in this place, where she can use some of her immunity and keep them safe.

Making this place a bit crowded.

From crowded, it only meant four people extra. And with no Dwarf to hound her anymore, it was for the better.

As for where he was? Sheva didn’t know, all she could ascertain was that he had been sent to do some errands by Remira for a while now. Leaving her here to wallow uselessly.

It was at this moment that Remira was back from the city while carrying loads of rations with her.

This was her job, you can’t expect anyone else to dare venture out into the city unless you wish to be hounded by Jester’s men with a high chance of them being captured or killed just to obtain the information over the mission.

But unlike other days, Remira’s mood was a bit off, and she did give Sheva a deep look before she helped take off the items from the carriage while paying the driver and sending him away.

Making Sheva curious for a bit, but as nothing happened after that, Sheva remained quite in her place, forgetting this oddity not too long after.

As there really wasn’t anything that noticeable reaction to begin with. Neither did Remira wished for Sheva to pick up on the oddity. But her anger and hatred was hard to hide.

It would be too coincidental for this to happen. Jester played with the lives of children in an attempt to get a rise out of her and affect Sheva.

No, that action of his has already turned Sheva into more of a liability than she already was. But considering the promise of not too long past, she tried to hold on her negative thoughts and ideas.

’He is inhumane, doesn’t mean I should be as well.’ Achieving the goal through any means possible with any sacrifice required only means that you can put your own life and your fellow men’s life at risk when it comes to dealing with a dangerous threat. It never means the life of an innocent like Sheva would be endangered.

And no matter how much of a liability she was, killing her to keep her mouth shut was not going to do her any good. It’s better to just keep this info from her.

It was round a week later since I saw those flames, and a whole week of no growth on my end.

’A bottleneck?’ I thought. I can feel the vital energy flowing in my body has reached its limits without me even being close to entering the adept range of a Knight.

What was this? No one told me something like this could happen to me?

Well, it’s not like what I currently experience is anything new. There is a reason why the majority never grow out of their apprentice phase of Knight and remain mediocre through their life, barely being above mortals and in some cases, even blow Mortals depending on your bloodline.

And that reason is the bottleneck. A curse like state that no one wishes to face through their life, for this was a sign that you are not talented on this path of knighthood or you lack something.

All such knowledge is common among Knights apprentices. But considering how special my bloodline was, I never considered that I would face something like this.

Something which untalented or mediocre people go through.

"I am not one of them." I was sure of this, my talent with transformation was high enough. I was capable of partial transformation, so why suffer from a bottleneck now?

"It’s not me, nor the bloodline, it’s probably because I lack something." After enjoying the series of unstoppable growth for the past few months, it felt a bit dirty as I reached this limit. I need to find a way to break out of it and grow again.

"I can increase the quantity of the vital energy in my body through exercise anymore, should I just try to compress it?" After such a thought and not going to school for another day, I found that no matter how much I tried, besides feeling a slight warmth inside my body, I can’t even feel this so-called Vital energy at all.

And without feeling it, how can I hope to compress it?

No, I know I am hurrying too much. Slow and steady, I might have hurried too much and all that accumulated strain is causing me this bottleneck. Train at a regular pace like usual, thi...

Before I could speak a word. I heard from the maid that someone was at the door.

’Hmm.’

Curious, I looked at her and asked, but she didn’t answer. "Go look for yourself." She said and I just did that.

"Henry?" I was surprised to meet him. He looked haggard and worried. It would seem that he hadn’t slept much in past few days.

"What are you standing out here for? Come in." I said, showing him the way, but the moment he had shown his face, my mood had turned down and the smile that appeared on my face look obviously fake.

All an act. Which was boosted by the fact that I had truly been frustrated these days due to my bottleneck.

"I am sorry Crow, for not responding to your letters." Those were the first words he spoke to me. And as he tried to bow to me, I came forward and helped him up. "No need to worry over something so little. And from your face, it seems you worried a bit too much."

"No, it was wrong of me... not to mention," Before he could say a thing, I interrupted him. "Are you here just to say sorry? Instead of that, why don’t you come to school? Man, I miss you guys."

I said with a troubled laugh. Obviously pointing out what my current status in the school was. But I was not going to say what was happening to me, he had already known what happened that day outside of school due to his girlfriend, there was no need for me to repeat those words.

It would be better if he thinks I don’t want him to know what happened to me, making his guilt bigger.
