The God of Jesters
Chapter 299 - 5.08.4 Burn them.

Chapter 299: 5.08.4 Burn them.

There is a saying in this world, with enough justification, you can do the worst crime imaginable and people will clap for you. They would put you on a pedestal and parade you around on the street over your greatness.

It doesn’t matter if the crime you committed harmed the innocent, the needy, or the unfortunate, none of that matters in front of justifications and your right for revenge.

Of course, the world is not so simple, such justifications can only be taken on those the public considers their own enemy, it’s why they can relate, it’s why they would support you.

That’s just human nature.

"Master won’t approve of this."

"Yes he won’t, but he also won’t approve of not doing anything, We need to show him some results, this is the least we can do for him."

Kanha’s words didn’t reach him, like an emotionless golem, he followed the directives in his head, using the knowledge of the notes he left for himself as a basis. I wonder how the old Jara might have felt at this moment, seeing his new self doing the very thing he hated.

And considering the last time this happened, parts of old Jara might surface again, and regret these decisions later, but for now. This was the most optimal choice he could come up with. The pretty fun kind.

But as if to prove my assumptions of his wrong, he spoke a few more words to Kanha, who at first struggled, but finally relented.

Sacrifices need to be made, there is no denying it. And if the threat of the Daemon were to be believed, then their whole operation and reason for living might be in danger, a danger which could easily be dealt with if someone in the higher-ups were to act, but he won’t do so.

He just gave me a key and asked me to find the door. But no worries, let these two do whatever they want, while I do what I want.

"You disgusting bastard... there is no Henry or Rashid to protect you now." I was being beaten in the corner like a dog. I never struggled, neither did I scream. All I did was protect my head while taking a defensive position while these young students kept wallowing me up.

One of them was Alan, an old bully of mine, who seemed to have understood that I had played them before and now, seeing how fearful I was recently, finally got the confidence to do this.

"He is fat like a cow." One of them cursed but I responded with their kicks appropriately, showing pain with low grunts and a few drops of tears that were barely visible from the side. Making this display of mine worthy of an award.

And the jury was not too far from me, her eyes stared in my direction. And although I couldn’t see it clearly, I knew she was looking at me and probably wished to come and stop these guys.

But they were too scared for her and her friends group also didn’t want anything to do with all of this. So they dragged her away, claiming that I was a weird and disgusting guy.

As in the meantime I was busy, the rumors have turned weirder with time with some of them being a bit accurate, which went along the lines of. "The problems started when he arrived."

The odd woman that scared the students in Henry’s group, had remained in the minds of many. And they can’t help but blame me for it considering I did have some presence in all of those rumors. Although there was a misunderstanding on some parts.

So I had turned into an outcast, a true one with an established image. No one would protect me, no one would trust me. And all of it can be blamed on the first friends I made in this school.

’Truly angels... much better than me asking for a beating.’

When they had their fill, they left the scene, threatening me to not come to school tomorrow. In their eyes, it would be good if I didn’t come to school at all.

But I know, they were the kind who would be bored without me. Where else can they find someone to take out the frustration of their failing marks and absent parents? I have a duty to uphold, I need to give these kids the chance to feel alive again.

But considering their feelings, I would not go to school tomorrow.

"The last letter." Dusting off my clothes and putting some balm on my lips that were broken by their kicks or so they might think, but I really had a thick skin and I had to bite off my own lips to create the look that I was injured.

I went to the same place, found the kids, handed them some kebabs along with the letter, and then disappeared into the crowd.

’It’s done.’

"I should forgo today’s training. Besides, I have already learned all I could from the caged monkeys."

It’s been a month since that fight, a whole month since Henry disappeared from school, and a month since I finally got the taste for a real fight.

A fight that helped me gain loads of realizations and helped me come to a single conclusion. "I am not good at fights."

I lack the instinct that other Knights hold in their body. To them, their bodies move before their hand does, while for me, it takes a while. But it doesn’t mean that I am slow, it’s just I struggle with what to do during a fight and what choice to make.

As there are so many, I can’t ascertain which is the best one when facing an opponent. "Ah yes, I should have asked the boss for that woman’s contact, I need to learn her tricks."

And those tricks were really useful as well, considering how I fight, an ability to constantly defend where I stand would be perfect for me, as it would give me ample time to think and plan my steps properly.

’Defense, that should have been my priority. Training with monkeys was truly a waste of time.’ If not monkeys, then what else?

I was mostly limited to land animals, and not the transcendent kind, only the mortal beast that had limited strength and scope. As for my prior Taurus look, it was just a result of partial transformation which retains the advantages of both sides of human and animal, while excelling at none.

Though, while having such thoughts, I noticed something odd in the distance.

"??"

The small city of Phuket was easily traversable on foot, which was the reason why there were so low taxis in the city, This meant that things were too close to each other and hence when something big did happen, like the conflict from a month ago, people can hear it clearly and know if something big happened in the city.

The same was the case at this very moment.

"Smoke in the orphanage." Someone shouted, causing me to raise my eyebrows.

’There was an orphanage here?’ I wondered with some surprise.

With how small this place was, I never imagined there to be an orphanage there. But whatever the case. That place was burning and might require some of my help.

So I ran with all my might while whispering. "Go ahead and help them," I said, but no response came from my side.

Did she already go ahead to help the kids?

Well whatever the case was, I needed to hurry and see to it that the kids didn’t get harmed by it.

But, it would seem due to all the drama I just partook in not too long ago, I had been delayed.

By the time I reached there, a few of the bodies with barely any burn had already been retrieved. But as the fire got too big, it was impossible to help anymore unless a transcendent arrived here.

"There should be some." I thought, looking around, but found none besides the good samaritans in the public who chose to give a helping hand.

"Any chances of saving them?"

"Don’t think so, by the time I picked them up, they barely had any breath in them, the smoke killed them before the fire could reach."

One of the Knights was sighing, looking at the flaming spire, before his eyes fell on me. "You, get outta here, this is no place for kids." He warned me before other older people, although surprised by my stature and beard, noticed that I was still young and pushed me out.

It really wasn’t something for a kid to see.

’That fire almost makes it nostalgic.’ Giving one last look, I left.

There was nothing I could do, and the chance of any of the kids surviving in that fire is already close to nil.

All one can hope is that the world will be more kind to them in the afterlife.
