Chapter 280: 5.03.3 Unexpected discovery.

It was too natural to consider it premeditated or done on purpose to attract Henry’s attention.

And even if Crow were to do so on purpose, why focus on Henry instead of him?

’The letter has made me a bit paranoid.’ In the end, Rashid agreed as well and joined the group in their search effort, which was mostly an excuse to hang out together. ’I will treat it as a rest, maybe, it might help me to think straight for a bit.’

Although he held such thoughts, he had no intentions of getting closer to those that he deemed suspicious. For most, it was not that noticeable as well, considering there were around eight students in the group, each with their own topics to focus on.

And Crow was the same, he showed a side of him that he rarely did in school.

Which was his extensive knowledge of car engines and automobiles.

"Did you see A Ranthra V2 in Bothal?"

"Saw it? I rode it along with a friend of mine. He was crazy rich." False stories that few believed in the group. All of it was hot air in their eyes, but it was fun to talk about stuff like this. And Rashid also, for a bit, chose to abandon his thoughts of finding that woman for a bit.

He listened and learned about things he never ever noticed while being absorbed in his mission. It’s useless knowledge, but still fun to learn.

’What am I even doing?’ Rashid’s eyes went towards the lamb, who was none other than Henry. ’He is just a kid.’ Looking at the kind and innocent smile of Henry, Rashid felt a bit of guilt, knowing full well what he wished to do.

’Putting his life in jeopardy... I have no other choice.’ Then his eyes turned towards others in the group.

Specifically, three others whom he can trust not being a spy.

And among those three, there was Jatin, the only one other than Henry who might help him and knows how to keep one’s mouth shut.

’My mind is truly not in the right place.’ The path he chose to walk on was never going to be easy, even finding that woman was going to be hard, and even if he did find her, the chance of her helping him in his goal would be next to impossible, unless he brought something of interest to that being on the table.

Of course, first, he needed to find her at least. And Henry was the only one capable of doing it due to two different reasons.

For one, his bloodline of Wandering Lamb was not as simple as it appeared on the surface, the second was so secretive that Rashid had it removed from his mind completely.

It would be impossible to extract information in his mind that doesn’t exist in the first place.

*****

"The Wandering Lamb, the mount of Root and Fertility God. There are no legends about the mount ever fighting itself, but what we can find is its ability to take its master wherever it wants."

In the legend of Martheus, the Root and Fertility God had given his champion the Wandering Lamb so that he could rescue his lover’s soul from the chaotic world of dreams.

’The ultimate mouth for gods.’

"We might be missing something," Kahna said while reading the file. "The priests of Roots are hiding something. Definitely."

There were mostly stories and hearsay in the list. Most of which just focused on telling of how great the Mount of their god was. Which also showed that the branch of the Root and Fertility church did possess some of the original blood of Wandering Lamb even now. Which was enough to create a few more knights.

And as it was in the legends, all of these knights really were really great at traveling and surviving battles. The ultimate scouts in some cases, considering how at Master Rank, most of the Wandering Lamb Knights unlock an innate Teleportation spell, which makes them an annoying opponent to face.

’Most of it is public knowledge.’

"Should we ask the headquarters to put some pressure on the church?"

"I will put in a request... but I don’t think we will be able to get any results." Kahna was second in command of Team Two and focused entirely on the management side of things, unlike the captain.

This might have caused his on-field ability to regress with time, but it did make him smart and gave him the talent to see through the finer details that might be hidden in the eyes of others.

And this time, it happened again. Knowing for sure that something was being hidden by their fellow church, he thought to look at things from different angles.

"Bring all the books with mention of Lamb, or a wandering beast totem in the history."

The little legends he was able to obtain were specifically focused around the Nature god or Root and Fertility, not the Wandering Lamb itself. But the church was not the only one keeping the records.

If you consider one perspective to be limited, you can try to look at things from a different angle.

Specifically the records of churches that have had interaction with Root and Fertility. They should have their own intersecting history and among those, there might be some with mention of this specific totem.

On the other hand, Baldar, who had handed this job to Kanha, was away at the moment.

Specifically, in the hotel room where Sheva used to stay. "You are here master?"

"Just on a break, can’t give you much attention, considering I am a bit busy on the other end," I spoke, before looking around the room for a bit, and then spoke to Baldar in his head. "Speak, what is this place and why are you here?"

"It’s where Remira and Sheva were hiding."

"... Fascinating, the fool came here for some purpose. As for what it is, I hope you must have found it already?"

"They were at Sheva’s old orphanage. Met Crow in the Fish market, and knowing they were exposed, they ran away."

"It must have taken time, considering how they lived in such a grand room." Of course, my soft-spoken voice turned a bit grating, when I admonished Baldar for his slight mistake here. "Just what are you doing Baldar, I would have expected such a level of incompetence from Carp, but never you."

"How were they able to hide from your eyes for so long?"

"A mistake, it won’t be repeated. I have done my best to scare them out of this place."

"Hahaha!..."

"Take me for a fool, do you Baldar?"

"But I will humor you for a bit, protect her as long as you want, but in return, I will take what is mine."

When I spoke of such words, Baldar knew that he was exposed. "I haven’t learned anything new since last time."

"Then give yourself to that power and be consumed, this is your punishment and my reward for this slight of yours."

However this means that more of his personality will slowly be overtaken till he becomes a pawn for the demons. But this was what he brought upon himself by protecting Sheva. This was all in our new contract. A just contract in my eyes, made for someone I once cared about.

But it doesn’t seem that he considers me anything good, he lacks respect and his mind is also not set on achieving the goals I have set for him.

"I will try to pay what I owe at night."

"You better do, after what I have done for you. I at least deserve that much." I spoke and then left the scene.

Baldar was hopeless and foolish in love. But it made the situation a bit fun considering how he kept sacrificing part of his sanity in return for protecting his lover again and again.

I even wonder how Sheva would react if she were to learn of this fact.

Ah, I completely forgot about Crow. I wonder what is going on in his end.

Too much beer is bad for your health. And although I didn’t get drunk due to my physique, the same can’t be said about my bladder.

And I had expected to be mocked for the long time I wasted in the toilet.

But to my surprise, the restaurant was pretty silent today.

’What happened?’ I wondered before the scene in the restaurant entered my eyes.

’What are they doing?’ I wondered and then saw that most of the students’ eyes were plastered over the window for some reason. Specifically Rashid, whose eyes twinkled with bright light.

"What is going on?" I asked, but one of the guys just turned to me and shushed, before pointing at the window.

I tried to look out of it, but this racist architecture made for human height in mind, it was really hard to know what they were looking at, and why they needed to sush, considering we were on the 2nd floor of this restaurant.

But nothing would stop me, ignoring the window that all of them occupied, I dragged a chair to the window and climbed it, before turning my head in the direction....

"..."

I turned my head toward the youngsters again, specifically Rashid whose eyes twinkled like stars, filled with hope the kind I haven’t seen in a while.

’Oh, things have started to make sense.’

"I never expected the Professor to score a hot chick like this."

"Her face has been ingrained in my mind, fellas. I won’t be stupid like Henry and forget it."
