Chapter 274: 5.02.1 Hormonal teens.
The world is a crazy place, and nothing in this world is stupider than making sense of it.
From the years I have lived, I have come to learn that plans rarely go unimpeded, something will always happen to throw a wrench in your plans. Which forces one to either adapt to the situation or just abandon the plan.
As for the choices I have made throughout my life? It’s a mixture of the two, each leading to unexpected results that I have come to live with.
The current situation was asking me to make a similar choice, either abandon and leave these two bastards, or go along with them under the cover or shock and learn what they were doing here.
"No, in Henry’s case, his father works not too far... the odd one here is Rashid.’ Oh, this boy. He will be the death of me.
The moment I started to stay away from him, he kept trying to get closer, or it’s fate that wished for it. Well, I can’t say. That’s just how life is, unpredictable and boring.
’But is this boring really?’
I won’t lie, them finding me here scared me a little. Was it the thrill of being found out where my cover might be exposed? Don’t think so considering I didn’t make any suspicious moves in fear of being noticed by others in the port.
Then what was it?
I can’t say for certain at the moment, but I chose to jump in with them in spite of Rashid being there.
’Well, my boss won’t be able to complain for a while.’ I thought to myself. And I was correct, as from the looks of it, I was progressing with my mission pretty spectacularly.
"I came here looking... looking for the fish market."
"Crow, the fish market is more inland. No one is selling you fish unless you buy in bulk." Henry explained while Rashid looked at me with a curious look.
"Different from my old city," I spoke, confused and worried a bit. Before suddenly acting surprised and bowing down to the two. "Thank you for saving me."
"No need, we are classmates," Rashid spoke with Henry backing him. "There is really no need for it, we already became friends yesterday in school. And there is never a need to thank each other as friends."
The fool spoke as if he were some protagonist of some heroic drama. Showing how much his mind had been turned to slush. But it was good enough, with what I wanted to do.
"What... are you guys doing here?" I wondered, confused over why the two would be here and Although Rashid didn’t wish to explain his reasons, Henry was a simple man.
"You were not in the Knight’s class..." then he started to tell me the tale of the beautiful woman whose face he can’t recall and then how his words have interested a bunch of his friends from the class.
But it was only Rashid who was curious enough to tag along with him.
Curious. If Rashid had been a simple young boy, then I might have ignored this simple story, which Rashid was not.
An adept knight of his age was in the enemy town far away from his father and he had the time to bother with such childish endeavors?
’Can’t see the face. The Sign of Taboo.’ This is the conclusion I came up with when Rashid joined in on this search, otherwise, I would have just treated Henry as stupid and considered him forgetful, which he was.
"Hey, my father always said that there is a time for us to do such things... its also not good to stalk people," I spoke while looking at Rashid as if I was looking at some pervert. Which made him a bit embarrassed for the first time.
"I promise you, we definitely are not like that... " The excuse Henry gave me was simple.
He already had a girlfriend and Rashid was like a chick magnet. If he wanted, he didn’t even need to ask and a girl would fall into his chest just like that.
Which, I don’t know if Henry knew or not, was not a good thing when we were on this particular topic. It would make Rashid look like Gigolo and Henry a cheat that tried to look at other girls than his own girlfriend.
Truly a bunch of hormonal teens driven by instincts.
Or so I should think in my position.
’Who was she?’ With those thoughts, I looked toward the two and said. "I can’t relate as I never had a girlfriend, but I would still suggest the two focus on studies instead of such distraction..."
"No... as you guys saved me today, I should do something for you as well... I will keep a watch on you two and stop you from doing anything stupid when you come across this woman."
I forcefully tagged along with the two of them. It’s not like my words were wrong from their perspective. I acted like the moral compass that would be needed in the future.
As there needs to be someone who is not driven by their lust in the group. Or so I wished them to believe, as from my fake expression, I also showed some interest in the woman and Rashid caught on to that, with Henry not even noticing it.
Which is just what I wanted. Let the smart one think I am also driven by lust and not my reason in this situation, which would help in lowering his guard toward me.
Of course, there was also a simple fact that the two that Henry saw would never appear here anymore.
As one shouldn’t forget, it’s the Port, although it’s not as frequent, there were still some ships coming and going from here, meaning that they might be travelers who either got off or were intent on boarding one of the ships.
So their chances of being present were next to nil. But this was the fun of being young, going on a useless adventure driven by curiosity where the end was never the fun part, it was the journey.
And so, our small journey began, with me tagging along the two and trying to get closer as we walked. And I did it not because I was actually planning to complete my mission, but because being silent in a group was a bit boring and I needed some stimulation to keep my mind active.
So I told some lies of mine, stories of a father who was now dead and a mother who suffered the same fate. Now living with my uncle, who was my father’s old friend, who himself was in a catatonic state most of the time.
A tragic story that made Henry look at me with pity, while making Rashid much closer to me than before.
Guess, he was not as guarded as I had thought he was before. He was just a bit recluse, and cold when meeting new people.
Which I was not anymore. "Hey, if you need some help in the city, just come to me." Like a big boss telling an underling that nothing would happen as long as I remained in his group, Rashid showed me his support and opened some of his heart to me.
"Of course... I would do so if the need arises."
Then Henry spoke about his life and his girlfriend which made me a bit jealous. Throughout my life, I never truly experienced what love was. Rashid just shook his head in annoyance. "Bastard, can you talk about something other than Lena?... Like we are here looking for some other girl that mesmerized you... why don’t you talk about her?"
"What else is there to talk about? I saw her with a bodyguard, a huge one with something big on his back. It felt like a big gun or sword I suppose."
"Bastard... the bodyguard had a weapon?... why didn’t you mention such a detail beforehand?"
"Well I wanted to... but then you would have probably not come this morning... and as Lena had guests at her house, I had nothing to do. So I suppose..."
"No, this morning... its wasted... hah... should have said it straight from the start, we might have gone to the market with some other guys."
’....’
Well well well. What is this?
The two started to fight, but it was more of Rashid going ballistic over Henry’s little lie. Or was it a lie? I don’t know.
But what I know for sure is that I can’t be certain if Rashid really had some ulterior motive behind this or not anymore.
He really seemed genuinely angered over this plot point, he really seemed he was not going to come if this detail was mentioned before.
Or was it truly what he wanted? To me, a stranger thinks he had no actual reason to come here behind his interest in his woman.
Oh, how I wish I could open his mind and see the truth, but I can’t at this point.
It won’t be much fun, nor did I possess such ability. All I could do was nod to the two of them like a fool, and then give an excuse of it being too late and leave the area, directly in the direction of the Fish market, which I have learned from Henry.
Although I intended to change my direction toward Boss’s hideout, a small bug in my ear shook on its own and then, I knew.
’Someone is following me.’
