Chapter 255: 4.09.4 Not going to work.
A lie to escape from the Sun God, the overseer of death and the Father of the Twin moons.
If there was a god that could be named the greatest in this world, people would always think of the sun, which had many names, one of which was also The Preserver. He upheld the natural laws of the world and stopped any kind of corruption from touching the land.
And what the original body of the nameless god, from whom Lakram was born, was to try and fool him? A slight that was not well-liked by the Sun, which in turn started the eternal pursuit of the Sun to destroy any traces of Lakram from the world.
"Guess, all that corruption was for naught. No, it can be considered worth it." The reason I had been able to know so much about Lakram when before I only had little knowledge, was due to the corruption I suffered at the hands of Max not too long ago.
But as always, any form of corruption is a two-way street. As it tries to overtake me, I can do the same, creeping into it to gleam information that would be considered useless to the mortal mind, but when a ritual of the likes where the birth of a god was mimicked in a simpler manner, that jumbled up information slowly opened up, appearing clear and coherent.
In a way, even the corruption can’t be called as such, it’s just intrusion of higher-level information that is too much for the mortal mind. And as it’s information that originates from a greater being, one gets automatically marked by the being. Turning into sacrifice.
It’s why the forbidden text was so detestable in the eyes of the church. Knowing itself makes one a walking-talking bomb.
Unless of course, the god is dead.
"This?" Then I turned my eyes, seeing the flames cover a large swath of the forest, and for some reason, it was coming towards this place.
Hah Vegal, why do such a thing? You were more than capable of surviving her onslaught. So why choose this option?
Ready to break the facade of cooperation so early?
Or were you so fearful of death that the thought that you could fight her didn’t even appear in your head?
Well, whatever it was. This is no time for that.
"Guess, I have to do something myself." There is no one in truth who can fight Remira, not when she was adamant about using the full force.
Of course, there was Team One, the precious team of mine who were more than capable of this. Talismans are one annoying art that has survived for millennials. Even the first Mages can be considered an offshoot of Talisman masters.
But it didn’t mean I would put those precious children in danger. Staying here is no different than dying, the powerhouses of Pulgasari must be closing in soon and the Talisman Masters were not people that were known for their burst potential.
It’s easy to hold back Remira, but escaping would be difficult when the others arrive.
So I moved. I meant my little minions.
There were birds, insects, squirrels, and some rats.
Critters of all kinds flew out of the forest, startling Vegal who was at the forefront, who then smiled, thinking I was doing this for him. But no worries, such a misunderstanding is fine enough for me.
And not like he left me any choice, he was going to ruin the whole ritual for his own survival.

Remira ran and ran, out of the fire and into the open mountain slope, the flames were raging wildly behind her, but with her speed, she had long left it behind.
Which was a bit odd, she had expected the Mystic to use the flames as a shield to hide away from her tracking. But now, the moment she was out, she could smell him clearly and knew the direction he was going.
"Out of the fuel?" No, this can’t be. She knew that with his speed and lack of any energy fluctuations, he should be some Knight. And a Knight with flame attributes, like hers.
But if that was the case, the Knight shouldn’t have stopped spreading the fire. As long as a Knight lives, they are capable of such feats without worry.
Meaning, that the Mystic stopped his action due to some other reason.
A trap, an ambush, it can be any of those things. And moving forward can be considered to be as stupid as it was dangerous.
But this fucking Knight, this mindless knight. She just had to ignore such worries and be so overconfident in her strength that she kept moving forward. Finally forcing my hand.
The forest rubbled with cries of multiplier critters, causing Remira to stop in one place.
The cries and screeches, that sounded like the word "Stop." Again and again. A scene that almost felt too comical in Remira’s eyes. "So you were really here?" She asked, making me raise my brows.
Coming to such a conclusion so fast. She must have expected me to be here and why won’t she expect me to be here?
"Welcome Sir Remira, My master is here to welcome you."
"You came here to save that mystic? Must someone be important?" She said, eyeing the man with a burnt face and marking his smell on her nose. A smell that felt a bit painful.
The first of its kind smell. Making Remira put her guard up.
"That gentleman is... useful. That’s it. So hunt him as much as you want, but for now, let him go..." Before he could complete his words, a gunshot came and a hole appeared on the forehead of my present messenger, Baldar. Who gladly took the job of my mouthpiece when he learned who was coming here. However, what he might not expect was this, an instant end in the face of Remira, who had a habit of sneakily shooting people she was speaking with.
Of course, she didn’t stop here, recalling how annoying my people can be, she wielded her sword, and with a single dash, stepping on the countless critters that filled the land, crushing and killing them, she split the body of Jara in two.
A body that soon caught fire.
"Real or not, it doesn’t matter." She said, intending to keep on going her way. But soon, another Jara walked from the side of a tree, with the same burned face and an ugly mood that was a sign that he didn’t like what happened to him just now.
Of course, he was killed again before he could complain. And I did what I could the best, I ordered my little army to rush Remira, who just activated her flames of Devotion, and turned into fire, where each of my critters jumped into.
It was odd, feeling so many lives snuffed out in an instant, dying by burning and not by their own will.
"STOP!" The Critters kept crying, but she didn’t. She would cut each incarnation of Jara, not knowing if this was an illusion or not.
No, it was like she didn’t even care for such details, there was no fear in her eyes, and like a mad monster, nothing could stop her at this very moment.
"This is not good." I knew it.
Jara can’t revive himself again and again, his abilities had a price even while being a Knight, which made him closer to a Curse wielder than a Knight.
Annoying, I know. And I also understand that Jara won’t be able to hold her on for too long.
"Jara, go and order Vegal to move south, search for a tilted tree." Some sacrifices need to be made. And Jara, well. He was ready to die anyway, so why not use him for the last time?
******
Remira didn’t know who this weird man was or how he was able to survive each of her attacks. But what she did know, he must be part of something important. Maybe he is a member of the same group as Owl?
Though his clothes were mismatched and she hadn’t been able to feel the existence of Talisman’s yet. She knew that he might be someone on the same ranking as the Owl if he could act as a mouthpiece of that accursed Jester.
So she had intentions of pursuing him as well. But not now, she knew her priority. Target the person this man wants to protect, as high chance, that man is always more important than a side piece like him.
So she maintained her pace, tracking the smell and soon, after killing the burnt man for the last time, she picked up his smell in the same direction that the dwarf was going.
"On his limits?" She wondered but didn’t think it was odd considering that no one can use such abilities without any restrictions.
What she failed to notice though, was the simple fact that the direction of the dwarf and Jara has changed again.
Now going towards someone whose smell was deeply ingrained in Remira’s mind.
