Chapter 249: 4.08.4 The annoying knight.
No, the thing she calls the tragedy won’t be repeated. That cruelty in Durum was mandatory, as, without sacrifice, nothing can be achieved in this world. Moreso, when it came about reviving a dead pseudo-god of sorts.
But here, none of the sacrifices will be mandatory, there is just a ritual, a man creating a descendant, an inheritor of his blood and his Knight’s Pathway.
His reasons? Even the man didn’t know, all he knew was that something in his mind, in his very primordial soul pushed him to do it, or face oblivion. A fate that is much worse than death.
A fate that his own master might have faced once.
Though, there was one problem.
"She is too strong." None could stop Remira, she was just too powerful. It was like an adult walking in on the kids playing with not-so-good intentions.
"I knew she would be here, but I had hoped she would fool around in Bothal, not here." She was an unpredictable element, a dangerous one which I don’t see any way of stopping. However the most confusing part is. How did she do it?
I had fooled her eyes, the Radiant eyes from Cynark. There is no possible way for her to reach here, no possible way for her to come to the village instead of going directly to Bothal.
Unless of course, she had some weird way to track the people.
And it didn’t take long for me to confirm what it was.
"A coin?" I wondered, looking at the weird action that Remira made while holding a coin above her fingers. And instead of going in the direction of Farhad, she walked elsewhere, someplace which I knew about clearly.
Ah, that explains it.
Team One was in trouble.
"Divide, the tail has reached too close to you." I ordered the Team who were planning to merge with team two and some others.
"Master, you really were here?"
"I am not one to miss something of interest. And I had hoped you could have joined us as well, watching the greatness unfold. But sad to say, an unwanted element had entered our little reunion."
"The tail? You speak of the Knight?" Owl was no fool and the eyes of Mini also looked frustrated. She never expected that after all that time, all her effort to create some distance from that woman, she still somehow found herself here. So close to them.
"Don’t worry Mini, it’s not your fault. The means she used is too much even for me to understand." I spoke and Mini nodded blindly in the air, showing that she understood, but the joy of coming here was ruined for her.
The same is the case for the rest of the team.
"Move, depending on the direction you go, we can ascertain the person she is actually tracking." And under my order, the group split apart. No one dared to question me, no one dared to joke around anymore.
For they were sad that they wouldn’t be able to participate in the event.
"It would be good if it’s Mini, others won’t be able to hide for long." I thought to myself.
Mini was unique, her curse art made her easily control the critters and even giant animals as long as she wills it. Making her a tough opponent to track due to her information-gathering sources as no matter what, she can see and hear everything around her, or even farther than I could, and uses her dreams to infiltrate and control my rats.
Of course, the amount she could control was limited, but her distance was much greater than mine and she could easily achieve such wide range control anytime she wants, while I need to establish some little towers of sorts to help me relay my signals.
Oh, I am taking away the magic from my little tricks. But they were required for you to understand how great Mini was.
However, the moment they did divide, I also noticed the change in direction Remira took. "It is Scart?" That little collector boy seems to be the one being tracked.
But Remira, instead of pursuing Scart. Directly put the coin back in her pocket and took out her sword.
A sword that lit up with fire.
"WAKE UP!! RUSH OUT!! DANGER IS AT YOUR DOOR! RUN!" She shouted like a madman, and when there were some people coming out to watch the commotion, Remira directly struck the ground, causing a large explosion and scaring the villagers. "THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!!"
This annoying little critter. She knows she knows how to make the situation worse for me.
This drama, this destruction she caused would probably attract the army of Bothal, who were still jumpy and under constant fear due to the scrutiny of their newly awakened leader. So in an effort to not appear incompetent imbeciles, they would probably rush here soon.
I give a few hours at most, even less considering that Pulgasari had built railway tracks everywhere for this purpose alone.
This annoying little girl.
"I made a mistake." Hah!
I shouldn’t have let team one Divide, their actions probably created some interference on the coin Remira held, which was so odd that she understood that the coin was probably useless at this point.
And besides, the coin was used for long distances anyway, I can see that this woman’s nose hadn’t weakened at all. She would use the smell to track after doing her deed, removing the coin from the equation.
"The most annoying enemy is always the one that can think." The growth of this woman since the last time I saw her was a bit too much. Although she only made a few actions, she had ensured that the night wouldn’t be as peaceful as I had expected anymore.
Every time it’s like this. I can’t enjoy peace for once.
And I fucking love it.
The harder it is, the more satisfying the outcome will be.
All I can hope is that the losses on my side won’t be too much.
It’s not like I can make them move away.
Or can I?
Yes, this is no time to be dramatic.
"Run everyone, our little game has been ruined."
I spoke in the ears of all my close contractors, who are closest to me and can relay my messages to others without an effort.
As for Vegal, he would learn of my message from Carp anyway, I can’t lose him. He is important to me and to my future.
Though the rest, like Sheva. I wonder if I should. Should I warn her?
Though, with one look, I can see the little boy in love Jara had already been moving toward the direction of Sheva, probably in an attempt to scare her away.
"Stop Jara. What are you doing?"
"Master... she is not involved in this anymore, why drag her into this?"
"Don’t break the contract Jara, not so close. Your one mistake in the past has cost me too much, I can’t let you make such a mistake again. Take your teams and create some distance, the enemies won’t’ spare anyone this time."
Although Jara didn’t know who I was speaking of. But he had a mind, he could think for himself and if I was so scared enough to push everyone out of the village surroundings, one can imagine the danger that might be coming here.
"Then I can’t. I need to ensure that she is alive when this is all over."
"You will die."
"I died that day already, I just need to make sure she doesn’t suffer the same fate."
"Ah, love. I had hoped that I could feel something similar when I was alive." I smiled while imagining a fate that was never meant to be.
A fate in which I was alive and also had a face and a girl I loved along with a family of my own. Then all of those thoughts turned to dust and I said. "A ’Plus one’. Find another member who is worthy of receiving the baptism after this is over. That is the price."
"I won’t disappoint you again, Master."
"I hope you don’t... because I like you very much. You are the rare sane person in this group of mine. And every team needs a straight man like you to make it entertaining."
Then as if nothing happened. He returned to his duty, but much closer to Sheva than before, he was getting ready to receive any trouble that came Sheva’s way and deal with it. And in case he can’t he will take her and run. And with the means he has, it won’t be hard for him to escape.

On the other side of a mountain, Max came across an old tree. One with a trunk that was 5 meters thick.
"This is the one Master?"
"Yes, the older it is, the better it will be." Then Max took out an axe from the bag. "Go cut it cleanly, do it in under thirty minutes or the ritual will be rendered incomplete."
