Chapter 57: The Forsaken Student and the Noble Seductress

Lyra Duskthorn opened her eyes and stretched like a cat, the silken sheets slipping from her body as she rose. She crossed the room with effortless grace, drawing open the velvet drapes. With a soft click, she unlatched the glass door and stepped onto the balcony, a haven blooming with vibrant flowers and lush greenery.

She leaned lightly on the ornate railing, letting the scent of morning blossoms mix with the salty sea breeze. Below, waves crashed against jagged rocks in a steady rhythm, and the cold air kissed her flawless skin. Golden sunlight fell across her face as the sun began to rise from the ocean’s edge.

Lyra narrowed her eyes slightly at the horizon, a faint smile curling on her lips. A memory surfaced— a boy with dark hair, violet eyes.

With a smile on her face, she turned and walked back into her room.

A short while later, she emerged from the washroom and stood before a tall mirror framed with carved brown wood and intricate golden patterns. She studied her reflection. Jet-black hair cascaded in sleek waves down her back, a few loose strands grazing her pale cheeks. Her blue eyes shimmered, matching the ethereal beauty of her features.

She wore a high-neck black sweater that clung to her form, stitched with subtle vertical lines that added a sense of elegance and restraint. A silver circular pendant rested at the center of her collarbone, glinting like a secret. The outfit enhanced her hourglass figure, the black jeans hugging her hips. In that moment, Lyra didn’t just look like a noble—she looked like a seductress carved from midnight and moonlight.

She walked into the cafeteria with graceful steps, and all eyes turned—girls filled with jealousy, and boys with desire in their gaze.

When Riven saw her, he was momentarily mesmerized. Regaining his composure, he smiled at Lyra and gave a graceful bow.

"It seems you won’t rest until you truly capture my heart, my lady."

He gently took her hand in his and, with confident steps, led her toward the private section of the cafeteria.

Alex opened his eyes to the jagged roof of the cave. Glancing to the side, he saw Hati still asleep. He sat up and stretched, preparing to step outside as the pale light of dawn slowly pushed back the remnants of night.

Outside, his hands were still coated with the dried blood from last night. Without hesitation, he picked up his staff and began his familiar routine—swinging it like a spear, striking it repeatedly against the stone.

The dull, hollow clunk of wood hitting rock echoed through the quiet morning air.

As the sun rose higher, sweat began to bead on Alex’s forehead. It trickled down his face and soaked into his clothes, which now clung to his body, outlining the firm shapes of his refined muscles.

Emilia Aurelwyn stood before a towering wooden door inlaid with intricate golden patterns. At its center gleamed a large golden circle, etched with the letters EEA. A heavy knocker—shaped like a dragon’s mouth gripping a ring—rested ominously in place.

Knock. Knock.

The door creaked open, revealing a dimly lit room. Opposite the entrance sat the Principal, hunched over a parchment, writing with a silver-colored pen. Books were scattered chaotically across shelves and the floor, a stark contrast to the man himself—immaculately dressed in a finely tailored suit.

Emilia stepped forward and greeted, "Hello, Principal."

The Principal looked up, removed his golden-rimmed monocle, and replied in a gravelly, aged voice, "Ah, Emilia. Please, sit down."

She sat, and the Principal straightened himself, smiling warmly. "What can I do for you?"

"I’m here to—"

"Ah, forgive me. What would you like to drink?" he interrupted with a casual wave of his hand.

"Tea, sir," she replied.

With a flick of his fingers, a steaming cup of tea appeared before Emilia, and a black coffee materialized for himself. Emilia took a sip before continuing.

"Sir, as I was saying... I came to ask why one of the students in my class wasn’t allotted a dorm room."

The Principal’s eyes widened slightly. He set down his cup.

"When did this happen?" he asked.

"Sir, the Vice Principal said nobles protested... and they made it happen."

The Principal’s gaze darkened, and his voice turned stern. "The rules of this academy are not to be bent to anyone’s will. This institution was humanity’s last bastion—not a noble’s playground."

He grabbed a gold communication card from his desk and channeled elemental power into it. His voice rang sharp and heavy.

"Jasper, who gave you permission to deny a dorm room to a student? Tell me who authorized this."

A voice stammered through the card—Vice Principal Jasper’s.

"Sir... Veylor, the club president, and many others petitioned for it..."

"And where," the Principal snapped, "where in the rulebook does it say they can do that?"

Silence.

"I want a written explanation on my desk by tomorrow. Your pay for the month is docked. Further action will follow once I’ve read your explanation."

Emilia sat stunned. She had always assumed the Principal was afraid of noble pressure. But now she saw the truth: he wasn’t afraid—the academy’s politics ran so deep that much never reached him.

"Thank you for standing up for that student, Emilia," the Principal said kindly. "And thank you for bringing this to me. You may assign him a dorm room yourself. A notification will be sent to his bracelet shortly."

Emilia stood, bowed slightly, and smiled. "Thank you, sir."

As she exited the office, a shadow loomed behind the Principal—massive wings and jagged horns outlined against the wall.

A black dragon, its voice grinding like stone, whispered, "So... you’ve finally started caring for the academy."

The Principal didn’t turn. "Why are you here?"

The shadow vanished without another word.

He walked to the window, opened it, and stared silently at the crashing waves of the sea below.

Alex’s stomach growled just as Hati came out of the cave and barked.

Alex glanced at him and said, "So, you just woke up because you’re hungry, you lazy ass."

"Woof," Hati barked, nodding in agreement.

Alex chuckled. "Yeah, we’re going. But first—we need to hit the washroom."

By the time they reached the cafeteria, most students had already left. It was nearly noon. Alex approached the counter and smiled at the lady behind it.

"Hi, Aunty Chef. How are you today?"

Aunty Chef returned the smile. "So you finally decided to show up for breakfast, huh? I thought you were skipping today too."

Alex scratched his head awkwardly.

"Wait here. I’ll get you something good."

As Alex waited, Hati circled impatiently. Soon, Aunty Chef returned with a steaming bowl of ramen—noodles in a rich broth, slices of meat, leafy vegetables, and a soft-boiled egg cut in half. For Hati, she brought a juicy seared steak.

"This is ramen," she said with a wide smile. "A good, filling meal. Try it and let me know how it tastes."

Alex sat at a nearby table, setting Hati’s bowl on the ground. With the first bite, he felt the soft, chewy noodles coated in savory broth. A warm explosion of flavor danced on his tongue.

Beep!

His bracelet vibrated, and a small blue screen popped up.

YOU HAVE BEEN ALLOTTED A ROOM!

ROOM NO: 233 – E RANK DORM

Alex stared at the screen, stunned. He forgot about the meal entirely.

"Woof!" Hati barked, snapping him out of it.

A wide smile broke on Alex’s face. He looked at Hati and shouted, "We’ve been allotted a room, Hati—our own room!"

Just then, Emilia walked into the cafeteria and caught the moment. Seeing Alex’s excitement made her smile, though there was a hint of sadness in her eyes—finally understanding how hard it must have been for him to go without what others had.

She approached and said, "How are you, Mr. Alexander?"

Alex stood mid-bite, noodles hanging from his mouth. He bowed awkwardly.

Emilia laughed and sat down. "We’ve known each other since Romania City. No need to be so uptight."

"Finish your meal first," she added with a smile. "Then I’ll guide you to your dorm room."

Alex nodded and resumed eating quickly. Emilia eyed his food curiously and finally asked, "What are you eating?"

"This is ramen," Alex replied between bites. "Aunty Chef made it. It’s really tasty."

Emilia went to the counter and returned with her own bowl. One bite in, her eyes widened. She ate quickly, savoring every mouthful—completely absorbed.

When she finished, she suddenly became aware of Alex and Hati staring at her, mouths open. Blushing, she composed herself.

"Let’s go—I don’t have much time," she said, trying to regain composure.

Alex and Hati both shrugged and followed.

Emilia led them to a shabby room. The condition wasn’t great, but it had a bed, a washroom, a small window, a study table with a lamp, and a single chair.

"This is the room you get when you start," Emilia explained. "You can upgrade it by earning credits."

Alex looked around, smiling. "This is amazing for us, right, Hati?"

Hati barked and jumped onto the bed, tail wagging.
