Chapter 56: Exploring the Elemental Cultivation Stages
As Alex left the class, he moved toward the stairs, Rina asked following him from behind "where are we going?"
"Not you, Us" Alex said in sharp voice pointing to Hati and himself, "we are going to train".
"Are we not going to lunch?" Rina asked ignoring all other words
Alex sighed defeated replied " No we don’t have much credits to spend so it’s better for us".
Hati barked in agreement
Rina replied with smile " Don’t worry I’ll treat you both, I have plenty of credits".
Alex shook his head " No we won’t be going with you".
Hati barked "woof" and went near Rina
Alex narrowed his eyes looking and muttered " You traitor"
"Woof"barked again shaking his head
Alex said defeated said " okay, we’ll go to lunch first".
Hati came to Alex reached his hand started licking, Alex just patted Hati’s head with warm smile.
They sat on the table with Sandwich on Alex’s tray, and Rina and Hati both having steak in their tray.
All unpleasant stares came toward Alex and whispers that can be easily heard by him
" What’s that commoner trash doing with our lioness now?"
"That Dog has nerve to sit with our Lioness."
Hati growled
Alex replied munching on his sandwich " Don’t worry they’re not calling you a dog".
Hati tilted his face side ways "Woof"?
Alex said with mischievous smile " But you do bark like a dog?"
Hati growled and bared his teeth toward Alex and barked "Woof, Woof".
Alex raised his hands in surrendering with smile " But you’re majestic wolf".
Hati raised it’s head toward sky in proud gesture.
Alex started laughing hard clutching his stomach-
Rina blushed thinking Alex looked too beautiful with smile on his face, his charm increased ten fold.
Rina squirmed on her seat and hid her face in a glass of juice pretending to drink stealing glances at him from time to time-
Then Selene came put her tray down
Clank-
Rina got shocked and choked on the sip of juice and started coughing
Selene, Hati, and Alex turned towards her with concerned eyes
Selene asked " Are you okay Rina?"
Rina calming herself down straightened up and nodded.
Selene sat down and started eating her salad without looking at anyone.
Alex just sighed shoulder dropped down in defeat started eating his sandwich trying to finish it in hurry.
Now the stares were piercing and filled with murderous intent.
Rina asked in squeaky voice " Why are you here Selene".
Selene replied after gracefully finishing the food she put in her mouth " I want the same thing as you so I decided to join too".
Rina said stammering pointed towards the students who were trying to kill Alex with stares" but- but look at those people, they will create problem for Alex if you tag along like this".
Selene glanced backward and leaned toward Rina said in whisper " What should I do?".
Before Rina could answer, Alex stood up finishing the meal and said in grateful voice looking at Rina " Thanks for the treat".
He left the cafeteria immediately with Hati following behind.
Later in the class
Alex sat down in the last desk with the Rina on his one side and Selene on the other, Hati in the front of desk lying.
Professor Theodore Stormgaze entered the classroom and walked onto the stage.
With his deep, commanding voice and a warm smile, he greeted the students, "Good afternoon, class. Today’s topic is Elemental Cultivation Stages."
He looked around the room and asked, "Can anyone tell me what the Elemental Cultivation Stages are?"
As hands shot up across the classroom, he pointed to a student in the middle row. "Yes, go ahead."
The student stood up, slightly nervous, and replied,
"Elemental stages are:
Beginner level — 1st circle Intermediate — 2 circles Master — 3 circles Grandmaster — 6 circles Saint — 9 circles Great Sage — 10 circles."
Professor Theodore clapped his hands together and nodded approvingly. "That’s quite a good answer. Most of it is correct. After the Saint stage, we enter the Realm of the Sage. Ten circles is currently the highest level that can be achieved by humans."
He continued, "After Grandmaster begins the Saint Realm. When someone reaches the 7th circle, we refer to them as a Pseudo Saint. That’s because they’ve just entered the threshold of sainthood."
"Many geniuses can reach the Grandmaster level relatively easily, but entering the 7th circle is extremely difficult. To do so, you must understand at least one Law of your element. It’s not just about how much elemental power you have or how well you can form a circle. What truly matters is your comprehension of your element."
"The basic requirement to enter the 7th circle is grasping at least one law related to your element. That’s when you can truly say you’ve stepped into the Realm of Saints. After that comes the Sage Realm."
A hand went up at the back of the classroom.
Professor Theodore’s eyes twinkled as he recognized the student and smiled warmly. "Yes, Mr. Alexander?"
Alex stood and spoke in a calm, clear voice, "Professor, you said we must understand the law of our element to form the 7th circle. Does this also apply to monsters?"
Professor Theodore clapped joyfully and replied in a cheerful voice, "That’s an excellent question, Mr. Alexander, as always."
The class turned to look at Alex, many eyes filled with jealousy and resentment.
Professor Theodore continued, "Monsters are both similar and slightly different from us in this regard. Unlike humans, monsters do not possess two elemental affinities. They usually have a single element, and most of the time, that element is perfectly attuned to their nature."
"You could say that monsters are more in sync with their element. As they grow stronger, their understanding of that element deepens, which makes it easier for them to comprehend the law of their element. That’s why monsters tend to be stronger and can reach higher stages more easily. However, having only one element also limits them in certain ways."
He paused, allowing the students to absorb the information. Then he concluded,
"That’s it for today. We will continue from here tomorrow."
As the door closed students clamoring started,
Everyone started leaving,
Alex still in thought looked at the Hati thought to himself what’s your element buddy, I can’t wait to see it-
Alex stood up in the last and Girls also stood up with him-
Alex sighed in defeated manner and went outside of the class.
Selene sound came behind him " Alex have you seen all of the academy?"
Rina’s voice came from behind " We can’t roam around the academy we’ll be lost , its too big".
Selene rolled her eyes " You should at least know about important areas like combat training area, elemental training rooms, library and Monster section".
Rina said in serious voice " You should also know where is your dorm room or you’ll be lost"
Selene, ignoring Rina completely,
stepped beside Alex with a warm smile.
"Let me show you the library and training areas first."
Before Alex could even respond, she
turned sharply and walked down the corridor. With no choice, Alex followed,
Hati padding silently beside him. Rina trailed behind them.
They moved through a wide corridor
where massive windows opened to a breathtaking view. A forest-like garden
surrounded the academy, bordered further by towering mountain walls. Beyond that lay an eerie, dense forest. Selene’s voice floated from ahead."That’s the Shifting Forest. It’s alive... unpredictable. The path constantly changes. It was created by the Great Sage of Wood to protect the Isle of Sages. Anyone who enters it... never finds their way out."
They entered a spacious hall where students lined up in front of glowing doors of different colors.
"This is the Element Cultivation Hall," Selene explained. "The door color represents the elemental affinity: red for fire, green for wood, light blue for ice, and so on."
Next, they reached another vast room,
slightly quieter.
"Elemental Training Hall," Selene said, gesturing around. "Same idea with colored doors representing the element. Train in your specific element in the corresponding room."
They walked further until they stood
before an even larger hall with a high ceiling. Students sparred with swords, spears, and axes. Some fired arrows with intense focus.
Before Selene could speak, Rina stepped forward."This is the Combat Training Hall," she said with smug smile.
Selene gave a sly smile.
"Correct. All these training halls are on the same floor, Rina. You can’t possibly get lost."
Alex turned toward the large window.
The sky outside had already begun to darken.
"We should wrap it up for today," he said. "Let’s visit the library tomorrow."
With that, he turned and walked away
with Hati close behind.
Elsewhere...
In a private room of the cafeteria,
Kaelan sat across from Varek. The tension in the air was thick.
Kaelan slammed his fist against the
table.
"That commoner bastard. How dare he sit beside my Selene!"
Varek devoured an entire steak in a
single bite, chewing with beast-like intensity.
Kaelan clenched the glass in his hand.
"I’m going to teach him a lesson. He needs to know where he belongs."
Crack.
The glass shattered in his grip.
Varek, still chewing, mumbled through
a mouthful of meat,
"Ah’ll do it... fo’ you."
Kaelan stared at him for a moment,
then nodded.
"Don’t do it in public. But when you
do—break every bone in his body."
The forest was cloaked in shadows under the full moon, its silver light casting eerie silhouettes among the trees. Alex moved silently, Hati trailing close behind.
Suddenly, a fist emerged from the darkness, connecting with Alex’s jaw and sending him crashing into a tree. Blood trickled from his mouth as he staggered to his feet.
Hati barked furiously, positioning himself between Alex and the assailant.
From behind a tree stepped Varek Drakthorn, a hulking figure with a twisted grin.
"That punch felt soft," Varek sneered, flexing his bloody knuckles.
Alex wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes narrowing.
"Hati, stay back," he rasped. "This is between me and him."
Varek lunged, aiming another punch at Alex’s face. Alex ducked, twisting his hips and delivering a powerful blow to Varek’s ribs.
A sickening crack echoed as Varek stumbled backward, clutching his side.
Seizing the moment, Alex advanced, landing a punch squarely on Varek’s jaw. The brute collapsed, blood oozing from his mouth.
Alex straddled him, fists raining down in a flurry of blows, each fueled by pent-up frustration. Varek’s resistance faded, his body going limp.
Breathing heavily, Alex stood, his hands bloodied. Without a word, he turned and walked away, Hati following closely, leaving Varek unconscious in the dirt
