Chapter 407: As you know, I’m a duelist
Chapter 407: As you know, I’m a duelist
"Alice," Adolf called, and she turned around to him. "Walk with me."
"Sure."
They walked around the headquarters slowly with Marcus and Leo following behind.
"What are your plans?" Adolf asked.
"For what?"
"After the subjugation." Adolf said, and Alice went silent. After the subjugation... She’d have to look for other places that were filled with monsters.
Killing dangerous monsters raised her stats, and even if they were demon-infected, she would go on dungeon raids more often.
"I’ll just keep fighting." She answered.
After getting her temporary student’s license, she should be able to go on dungeon raids, but she was certain it would limit her a lot.
Since it was a temporary license, she would need a permanent one.
Wait, why did she even need a license?
"Hey, gramps." Alice called as she stopped walking. "Why do I need a license?"
Adolf looked at her. He was about to respond when he realized that the reason did not actually help her at all.
She was right. Why did ’she’ need a license?
"It would’ve naturally been explained during the orientation, but that reason... I don’t think it’ll apply to you, who has entered red gates and fought S-class monsters before." He explained. "But it’s important since you aren’t famous and there’s no one who would let a child into a red gate just because she says she’s the strongest in the world."
Alice’s lips curled up, and she nudged his shoulder gently.
"So you admit it." She said, but he cleared his throat to hide his fluster.
"Ahem," he closed his eyes and said, "I can’t deny what’s right in front of me."
"Well, true." She turned around to face him. "Shall I tell you what you want to know now?" She asked.
They got to a place they could sit, and Alice began,
"As you know, I’m a duelist. But I’d like to call myself a warrior." She said. (Reference to Chapter 53)
"You mentioned it back then, too, but I didn’t question you. What does a duelist do?"
"Well, it’s a form of a versatile warrior." Alice explained, but she was not too sure herself. Was she given that class because of her main weapon? "Anyway, it’s a warrior who fights with different weapons, and I happen to have a legendary weapon that specializes in transformation." She said and smiled.
Such a Legendary weapon. Was she referring to her hammer? Where could she have gotten such a treasure from?
"Anyway, you never got to tell me your stats when I went over for dinner, but this time, you have to keep your promise." Alice pointed out, folding her arms, and he nodded.
"Of course. It was a slip on my path back then. I did not intend to break out promise."
"It was Philips’ fault," Alice mumbled. By the way, she didn’t see him. Did he not come to the meeting?
"Do you want me to start this time since I failed to keep my promise the previous time?"
"Yeah, sure. Go ahead." It was better this way. So that he wouldn’t be intimidated by her stats.
"Endurance: 300 Strength: 350 Agility: 290 Perception: 320 Vitality: 280 and Intelligence of 300."
’Wow, he has way more than my stats back then.’ Alice thought. She wasn’t sure Leo told her the right numbers back then either. Maybe he just didn’t want to scare the folks with normal systems. ’But now... It’s a whole different story.’
"Now, it’s your turn." He said, and Alice nodded.
"Alright, but don’t be too shocked." She said and pretended to look at the screen while Leo told her the numbers directly. "Seriously, I’m not bluffing."
"It’s alright, Alice. I’ve seen enough to know that you won’t lie about your stats." He said. "Now, tell me honestly. How strong are you?"
Alice took a deep breath and began.
"Endurance: 800," Marcus’s glasses cracked at the impossible number he just heard. "Agility: 790, Perception: 890, Vitality: 880, Intelligence: 700, and Strength: 1000."
Alice definitely didn’t put too much thought into intelligence, but even then, she was still the smartest anyone could find.
She just needed to use her brain more often.
Adolf was stunned, speechless, and so was Marcus. How... How could those numbers be real?
*If you want to even have a chance at defeating an arch demon, then these stats aren’t even enough.*
’Hey, are you bragging right now?’
*What’s there to brag about? I’m just stating the truth, so these numbers can only help you survive at best. You won’t be able to defeat the real demons. The administrator of the first calamity tower just happened to be a weak demon, and your second encounter with a demon was with a Clone. You would’ve never been able to defeat a demon otherwise.*
Alice sighed. She knew it now. Demons were dangerous. But so was she.
The same demonic energy they used was currently flowing through her veins, and if things got rough, she would just activate the demon powers. That would at least give her a chance at taking off her enemy’s head.
*But if there are more than that?*
"Stop peeking at my thoughts," she yelled at him, confusing Adolf and Marcus.
She noticed she had lost her cool and cleared her throat.
"Anyway, gramps. Listen to what I’m about to tell you carefully." She said. "We’re weak, you and I." His eyes widened. What did she just say? "Yeah, it’s pretty confusing, but listen. In this world, among others, we might be the strongest, but against the enemy who is after our destruction, we are weak. We need to work harder and increase our stats. So... I advise you to keep growing. Push past your limit and let the system guide you. We have to get stronger before ’it’ comes."
Adolf was confused, but he could see great determination in Alice’s eyes and knew she wasn’t talking nonsense.
If something big was coming and she was able to tell.
He was curious beyond words, and he could feel the hair on his skin standing in fear of what this danger must be. Who was their opponent?
He wanted to ask, but something told him that was as far as he was going to know.
If Alice claimed she was weaker than the enemy, then it must be another calamity.
"Alright, Alice. I will listen to you." He said. "This time, I will go around the world and fight strong monsters. I will push past my limit and become stronger. Strong enough to protect my citizens and my family." He patted her head, and she smiled.
"That’s the spirit."
Adolf stared at her warmly. She was a gift.
"Gramps, let’s pick up some Chinese dumplings and fried chicken on our way back." She said, and he laughed.
An amazing gift.
