Chapter 95: Chapter 94 - Emma Chamberlain
Caliste stared at the enormous slab of rock as though it had personally insulted him. Six times his size? Was this a training session or an execution?
"I don’t think that’s physically possible," he muttered, crossing his arms.
Albert Siglius snorted, dropping the rock with a ground-shaking thud that echoed through the training grounds. "That’s why it’s training, not nap time. You wanna be strong, don’t you? Strong enough to kill anyone, strong enough to impress all those lady friends of yours? Well, go ahead and give it a try."
When Caliste heard that he wanted to be strong enough to kill anyone, he realized that he needed to do this before it was too late.
He closed his eyes and began focusing on lifting the rock, but then, there was no magical thing that happened to help him this time around. He wasn’t even able to make the rock budge.
"Hey. You really are a fucking weak link, kid. The butler didn’t lie about that." He shook his head in annoyance. "Do you mind drinking something to become stronger, or is that against your values or some shitty morale that you created yourself?"
He clearly was a Siglius.
Caliste could see some of his ancestors within that man. The arrogance, the cursing, the insults; he really was one of their own, especially when it came to training.
"Um... what would I need to drink?" Caliste replied in a classy manner, which made Albert giggle a little.
"Are you exhausted yet?" Siglius asked with a slight frown.
"Not really."
"Well, push the stone until you can’t breathe, and I’ll give you something that will make you feel much better than before."
Caliste wasn’t sure where he wanted to go with this, but he nodded as he tried his hardest to lift the rock before him, but it was no bother. It simply wouldn’t budge no matter how hard he pushed.
After one hour, he found himself completely out of breath on the ground, his breathing ragged as Siglius smiled while staring at him with a small bottle filled with silver liquid inside it.
He tossed it over his chest and said, "Here, that’s called Reinforcement Brew. It will make you feel much better, trust me."
’Reinforcement Brew?’ Caliste thought as he remembered that the Siglius would drink a strange liquid in the past. But he had never paid enough attention to it to know what it was. ’Is it that liquid?’
However, Liana, who watched this from within her mind, shook her head.
"No... it’s not. That’s... different. The liquid that he just gave you is definitely dangerous; it seems to be like a drug. The only reason why that man can handle its effects is because of his ancestors and his body. If you were to drink that, there’s a chance that you could suffer greatly at first."
Caliste frowned. ’But then... would I be fine after a while, and will that make me stronger?’
"What are you waiting for? Are you that scared of a tiny little fucking bottle? Drink up, pussy. It won’t harm ya. Look at me. Do I look crazy?"
’Yes, you do,’ Caliste immediately thought while shaking his head on the outside.
"Then, drink it and stop hesitating."
Just as Liana was about to reply, Caliste made his decision and drank it all in one go as the Barbarian started laughing loudly. "Good! You’ll drink one of those every day until you can handle its effects. That’s what I did, and look at how strong I am!"
As the liquid began to enter his system, there was an immediate reaction coming from Caliste as he felt his stomach churn with pain. He found himself unable to move a single muscle as he pressed against the ground, his face against it.
"HAHAHA! Good! Your body is already accepting it! Might take a while, but you’ll be much stronger with this!"
Caliste, who was on the ground, heard the voice of Liana scolding him. However, he could barely even hear her as the only thing on his mind right now was the pain coursing through his body.
"H-How long does this last?"
"My first time lasted about five hours. But for a tiny boy like you with that sickly body of yours? Maybe a full day if we’re lucky."
Caliste sighed at those words as he knew that it was going to be very long hours.
"Anyway, I’ll go back inside of the detention center. Make sure not to fall asleep, even if I doubt you can right now."
Siglius could see his body already accepting the liquid as it began reinforcing his body.
’T-This shit... better... fucking work...’ Caliste thought with a frown.
Liana sighed. ’It’ll work, but... it will hurt a lot. At least for the first few days, it should get better once you get used to it a little.’
24 hours later, the effects of the liquid finally subdued as he lost consciousness right as it ended, his body completely exhausted.
And the funniest thing was that all the professors had been able to see him on the floor; some had even teased him. Especially the Demonic Professor; he had a lot of fun taunting Caliste since he was still mad about when Caliste had refused his discipleship.
A few more hours passed by as Caliste entered the Detention Center, where everyone he had met a while ago was gathered. However, he didn’t even pay attention to them as he walked straight toward Siglius, who smiled and laughed loudly as he spotted him.
"Look who’s here, everyone!"
Everyone began clapping inside the room apart from Emma, the black-haired woman with dark circles under her eyes, who just looked in his direction with a slight frown.
"He decided to start training under me to become stronger! And I thought about it, and I thought that it would be much better if every one of you also did the same thing! Are you guys interested in training under me? It’ll be worth it, I can tell you that much, ain’t that right, Lucius?"
Lucius was looking at everyone with pure depression in his eyes.
"No one? Really?"
Siglius was a little hurt that no one raised their hands. But he accepted their decisions.
He clicked his tongue and patted Lucius on the back. "Look at all those sissies! At least you’re here to show the example to everyone, ain’t that right?"
Lucius slowly nodded as he continued to feel Emma’s stare on his back, which was definitely an unusual feeling since she wasn’t one to do those kinds of things usually. She was usually reserved and quiet, looking at her desk, uninterested in everything regarding those around her.
But right now, she seemed strangely interested in Lucius.
Lucius wasn’t sure why as he looked away from her because her gaze was getting more and more intense. It was almost scary.
"Anyway, Lucius, you can sit. We’ll finish this whole thing, and then we’ll start your personal training. There are only a few minutes left in this detention period anyway."
Lucius looked around as he only found one empty chair.
And... weirdly enough, it was the one next to Emma, who continued to stare at him as he sat down next to her.
Emma wasn’t ugly by any means, but she was just weird. She wasn’t a person that Lucius really wanted to interact with at all. Keeping his distance was something that he would much rather prefer doing.
However, the moment that he sat down next to her, she immediately leaned in with a slight frown. They had never really talked to each other before, but the first thing she said was definitely strange.
She whispered her words in his ear, making sure no one else would hear her.
"You have experienced death before... haven’t you?"
Caliste immediately tensed up as he wasn’t sure why she would know such a thing. As he acted like he didn’t hear anything, watching the others, however, she continued whispering.
"I can feel it. I can feel myself and my powers getting attracted to your person... but you’re a living person, which wouldn’t be possible in the first place. Which means that the only possible explanation is that you died before and experienced death."
Caliste frowned as it was clear that her powers were related to Death itself. However, he had no idea what they could even be.
"I can also feel another soul within you. Actually... I can feel three souls within your body. A forgotten one. An old one. And a pure one."
Caliste continued to act like he couldn’t hear her. However, it was the first time in his life that he had heard that he had three souls. There should only be two within him.
Liana’s and his own soul. He wasn’t sure which one corresponded to her words, since he could be all of them, and so could Liana in a way.
However, before Emma could continue, she just smiled and slipped a piece of paper into his hands.
"Let’s talk later..."
