Chapter 59: Chapter 58 - Children of the Demon King

"Do you want me to deal with her?" he asked.

Before Caliste even managed to say a word, he completely vanished from where he stood and reappeared on the tree branch where Aleia had been watching the situation unfold.

’Why is she here?’ Caliste thought with a frown.

He hadn’t even felt his sister’s presence ever since he had left the Elven Castle. However, she had clearly been following them all this way.

The awareness of Yopi was unlike anything Caliste had ever seen during this timeline; it could almost be compared to the one he had in the past. The speed of his movements was also completely crazy.

Then, one moment later, Yopi reappeared before Caliste, holding onto his sister by the top of her shirt, almost strangling her in the process.

"I’ll ask the question again. Do you want me to deal with her?"

Caliste shook his head right away. "No! Of course not! Are you crazy? This is my sister!"

Yopi frowned even more. "Mhm... is that so?"

The reason Yopi sounded so confused about this whole scenario was that he was confused. Caliste was acting like he wanted to hide things from his own family. Fighting techniques at that... it was not like he was lying about some useless things normal teenagers would. It was completely different; he was scared of something else.

"Little brother! Y-You can’t win this! R-Run as fast as you can... this man is not someone you can handle; he’s a battle maniac!"

Caliste listened as he realized that his sister almost seemed to know this man.

"Run! The only reason why he isn’t higher ranked within the Demonic Heretics is because of how violent and crazy he is. Y-You can’t win this."

However, while Aleia thought that this would deter Caliste, it only gave him more motivation to win because if someone so overwhelmingly powerful was before him, there was a chance that he knew a lot of things. Things that could help Caliste figure out what the hell happened after he died... before history changed as a whole and called him a traitor.

"Do we know each other?" Yopi asked with a slight frown. "Also, that’s not completely true... you know I’ve also refused promotions in the past since that would pull me away from the battlefield."

"I’ll buy time, Caliste! Run, just run!"

"Caliste?"

That was where everything changed. When Yopi heard that name, his entire demeanor changed at once.

"Caliste... where did I hear that name before?" Yopi muttered to himself as he started rubbing his forehead while shaking it at the same time. "Just where..."

He started murmuring to himself as he looked at the ground, wondering about it.

Caliste knew that he needed to act, so he immediately dashed forward.

Those heretics hated the Demon King; if they learned that two of his children were currently before him, there was a chance that this crazy madman would completely panic and capture them both, or even kill them.

Caliste needed to attack as hard as he could. That way he would not be able to remember.

-Swooosh!

Caliste dashed forward once again. However, his sword was immediately parried in one swift movement.

The man didn’t stop thinking as Caliste continued to attack him.

’The sword won’t work. I need to use mana.’

Caliste began summoning his Death Affinity as two black spheres of mana began forming in his hands.

Immediately, the environment reacted strongly as the ground below him became even darker than it already was. After all, those two balls in his hands were even worse than corruption. They represented death themselves.

This caught the man’s attention as he finally raised his head. However, that was not good news as he seemed to realize where he heard Caliste’s name.

"Death affinity... wait, you!" His eyes widened. "You’re the son of the Demon King!"

’Fuck...’ Caliste shook his head.

Death affinity was so rare that he had managed to link it back to him.

"And since you called him little brother... you must be his sister."

He started laughing like a madman as he threw Aleia against the ground.

"I have two of the Demon King’s children in front of me. How lucky am I to be here!" He started laughing while swinging his sword around for fun. "If I bring the two of you back alive, they’re bound to reduce my punishment, and I’ll finally be able to go back and have some more fun!"

Aleia landed on the ground, her knees almost bleeding because of how roughly he had done it.

And the atmosphere suddenly became heavier; the aura that Yopi had been exuding doubled—no, it tripled—in an instant.

-Ding!

[Warning: There is a high chance of death if you stay where you are. You should run as far away from the individual standing before you.]

The system was now even making warnings. The heavens themselves were scared about what could happen next.

"I-I’ll hold him back," Aleia said as she scrambled to her feet again. "Run as far as you can, little brother; reinforcements should be on their way."

-Ding!

[The quest’s difficulty has been updated.]

[Difficulty: Impossible.]

Caliste could no longer act like this fight was winnable.

He had only one move in his arsenal that could graze the man before him.

A technique that he hadn’t wanted to use before his sister. However, given the situation, he would have no choice but to; it was a question of surviving and saving Aleia.

Caliste closed his eyes amidst all this panic.

He grabbed his sword with both of his hands.

A white energy began exuding from the bottom of his sword, slowly and steadily rising.

Aleia, who was on the ground, felt this energy and couldn’t help but frown.

’Is that heavenly energy?’ She shook her head. ’How is that possible? How can a demon use heavenly energy?’

The craziest thing about all this was that Caliste had tried to use this energy in the past to get rid of his cursed mana circuits.

And now... for some unknown reason, the heavens had answered his call when last time they had refused to do so.
