Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Unable to Leave
Ren Xingzhou looked at the swiftly moving Nan Yu, his face displaying obvious astonishment.
"Weren’t you raised in the countryside? How could you be so skillful?"
Nan Yu chuckled lightly, "Climbing mountains and wading through rivers every day, is it strange to have good agility?"
Ren Xingzhou didn’t believe her words.
"The rope I used to tie you up was a special technique that ordinary people simply can’t untie, but you, a country girl, managed to do it. Where did you learn that?"
Nan Yu offhandedly replied, "Learned it online."
Seeing her response, Ren Xingzhou knew she was unwilling to speak, and that further questioning would be pointless.
He looked at the gun pressed against his chest and then glanced at Nan Yu.
"Aren’t you curious about where this place is?"
Nan Yu faced the deep, vast forest without a trace of fear in her eyes and retorted with a question.
"Where is Mrs. Nan?"
Ren Xingzhou placed his hand over the gun, trying to push it away.
But Nan Yu’s hand was as steady as Mount Tai, aimed unwaveringly at his heart.
When Ren Xingzhou again met Nan Yu’s resolute gaze, he forced a strained smile.
"Miss Nan, I’m just following orders. Killing me is useless. Instead of shooting, why don’t we put down the gun and have a proper talk?"
Nan Yu pressed the gun against his chest, making him step back two paces.
Then she slowly stepped out of the car and quickly surveyed her surroundings.
Behind her was a wooden house, surrounded by towering trees reaching into the clouds, and she was standing halfway up the mountain, unable to see the peak above or the mist-shrouded abyss below.
A small, rugged mountain path could be faintly seen hanging in midair.
Ren Xingzhou noticed her examining the routes and kindly offered a reminder, "Don’t bother looking, you won’t be able to drive out."
Nan Yu looked at him, puzzled, "Why not?"
Ren Xingzhou gestured with his chin toward the rugged path, "There’s an iron gate halfway along that mountain road, accessible to no one but me. Nobody else can come in, nor can they leave."
Seeing the earnestness in his expression as he spoke, Nan Yu narrowed her eyes.
"Is that so?"
Ren Xingzhou said with a laugh, "You don’t believe me? Get in the car, and I’ll take you to see for yourself."
Nan Yu watched him warily and remained silent.
Ren Xingzhou raised his hands, "Now the gun is in your hands. If I wanted to harm you, you could shoot me at any time."
Unsure of his intentions, Nan Yu decided to take a look first, "Get in the car."
Ren Xingzhou took the driver’s seat and set off, following that road.
When they reached the narrowest part of the path, the most precarious section, there stood a ten-meter-high iron gate, blocking the way.
On one side of the gate was a bottomless abyss impassable for humans, and the top was blocked by a dense forest, too secure to climb over.
One must open the gate to get through.
Nan Yu looked at him sideways, "Open the gate."
Ren Xingzhou remained stationary, "I won’t. The lady ordered that you should stay here for a while. Even if you kill me, I cannot defy the command."
"But if you do kill me, then you also won’t be able to leave."
Nan Yu observed him narrowly.
Ren Xingzhou kept smiling as he spoke, "This iron gate is made of special material. It wouldn’t be damaged even by ramming a car into it, let alone if you used a cannon."
"It needs a special key to open, and I am the only one who knows where it is. If you kill me, you’ll never be able to leave for the rest of your life."
Nan Yu met his smiling eyes and saw the seriousness hidden deep within them.
He wasn’t lying; without him, she couldn’t leave this place.
Nan Yu tilted her chin up slightly, unwilling to beat around the bush any longer.
"Since it has come to this, why not just tell me directly, what is the purpose of bringing me here?"
