Chapter 293: Chapter 293: All Seriousness, No Emotions

Scarlett Jennings and Evander Simpson helped guide the person back to the lounge.

The cameraman from the production team wanted to follow, but was stopped by Sebastian Carew at the door.

"It’s not convenient for the live broadcast to continue now, let’s wait until Ianthe Lawson recovers," he suggested.

Even though the viewers in the live stream were eager to see what happened next, it wasn’t appropriate to press further since she had fainted.

Director Clark nodded for the staff to step back, then entered the lounge.

Upon walking in, he saw Ianthe Lawson placed on the couch, with Amber Livingston watching over her. Scarlett Jennings, along with three others, stood by the vanity mirror, staring at a doll.

"This is the doll," Evander said, pointing at it. "But I can’t sense a soul body’s presence on it."

Scarlett examined the doll, nearly identical in appearance to Ianthe Lawson, and made her judgment internally.

Although there was no soul energy present, the doll contained a similar kind of energy.

She reached out and took the doll in her hand.

The sensation became even clearer upon contact.

Even though she already had a theory, Scarlett still looked into the doll’s eyes and softly asked,

"Ianthe Lawson, is it you?"

...

Ianthe Lawson, seeing herself being picked up again, had given up hope when she suddenly heard Scarlett’s voice. Her soul was overwhelmed with an urge to cry.

"It’s me! Scarlett, it’s me! Help me..."

She had seen her unconscious body but wasn’t aware of what was happening outside, nor whether they had detected anything wrong with her.

She continued to shout, even if her voice couldn’t reach their ears.

Even the slightest glimmer of hope was something she couldn’t afford to give up.

She didn’t want to be a doll.

The delicate doll didn’t respond, but Scarlett already knew the answer.

"Don’t worry," she said, setting down the doll and pulling out some blank Yellow Talismans.

After contemplating, she bent down and quickly started drawing the Talisman.

Ariel Zimmerman wanted to ask questions but was stopped by Evander.

Scarlett swiftly drew three different Talismans, and though it seemed to consume a lot of spiritual power, fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.

She seemed unfazed, and after finishing the Talismans, she casually stuck one onto the doll.

Evander scrutinized it closely; it was a Soul Summoning Talisman.

Without saying a word, Scarlett quickly formed a seal with her hands and activated the Spirit Talisman.

The runes on the Spirit Talisman emitted a faint spiritual light, but the doll remained unresponsive.

"As I thought," Scarlett said aloud.

The soul body was trapped inside the doll, and couldn’t simply be summoned.

Scarlett didn’t lose heart and stuck another Talisman on it.

Evander looked and couldn’t help swallowing nervously.

An intermediate-level Formation Breaking Talisman.

It could break evil obstructions and all sorts of barriers.

Scarlett, unperturbed, formed seals again to activate the Spirit Talisman, but this time the Spirit Talisman elicited no reaction.

The Formation Breaking Talisman didn’t work, meaning the force trapping Ianthe Lawson wasn’t an array or evil barrier.

Evander frowned.

Whether it was Hestia Knight’s so-called "rebirth" or this strange doll, everything carried an eerie air about it.

He knew of some Magic Artifacts capable of trapping a soul body and concealing its energy, but this doll in no way seemed to be one.

Clearly, Scarlett was also unsure of what this thing was.

Therefore, she could only experiment.

Find out which Talisman might affect the doll in front of her.

Evander seemed to catch onto her plan.

When lacking information, this was indeed the best approach, and one not every Master could employ.

Not to mention, creating several different types of Talisman on a whim wasn’t something many in the Mystical Sect were capable of.

Evander admitted he was somewhat envious.

Others didn’t know what Scarlett was doing but kept silent, watching nonetheless out of respect.

Seeing the Formation Breaking Talisman fail, Scarlett quietly placed the last Talisman on the doll.

"Golden words declared, jade scripts commanded, Three Realms Netherworld, all laws manifest, divine to the extreme, invisible..."

At first, Evander didn’t react to the Spell until midway, when his face subtly shifted, about to speak, but Scarlett’s hands flew into a sealing gesture, announcing,

"Expel!"

With this command, everyone watched as the Talisman on the doll caught fire, crumbling into ashes.

In the next moment, Ianthe Lawson’s soul body became visibly clear.

Scarlett knew she had succeeded but her expression remained serious.

Evander mirrored her solemn demeanor.

He realized what Scarlett’s final Talisman was.

A God Sending Talisman.

To invite the divine and send them away.

A Spirit Talisman meant for divines reacted on the doll.

Could this mean that the force binding Ianthe Lawson’s soul in the doll was divine in nature?

"Scarlett, is that..." Evander started to ask, but Scarlett abruptly interrupted,

"No," she answered calmly, her tone tinged with certainty. "If it were, it would be a Wicked God."

Modern beliefs have crumbled, the Mystical Sect claims the fall of divines, and even those which may exist seldom respond.

This so-called system, even possessing divine power, would be a Wicked God.

Legitimate divines wouldn’t intentionally disturb living souls.

Without the system’s core to contend with, Scarlett quickly extracted Ianthe Lawson’s soul body from the doll, then returned it to her physical body.

Ianthe felt the restraining sensation on her soul vanish, her soul lightened, then seemingly re-grounded.

For an instant upon opening her eyes, she looked bewilderedly ahead.

Ariel’s exclamation broke through, "She’s awake! She’s awake!"

She turned to Scarlett, asking, "Scarlett, is this Ianthe Lawson now?"

Hearing her name, Ianthe seemed called back to awareness, memories of her soul’s confinement flooding in, glancing at Scarlett seated beside her, eyes welling up.

"It’s me. I’m Little Fish..." she murmured, her voice quivering. Once more, fear overcame her, and she abruptly grabbed Scarlett, sobbing loudly,

"Wahhh... It was so terrifying... Scarlett... Scarlett... you really came to save me, wahhh... I thought I’d never return, wahhh..."

Though a few years older than Scarlett, she cried like a child holding onto her.

Even Director Clark from the side was dumbfounded.

Though not very old, Ianthe had always been calm and reserved outwardly, accepting criticism humbly without complaint, never displaying this level of emotion.

Initially stiffened by the hug, Scarlett relaxed as Ianthe’s shaky sobs echoed, refraining from pushing her away.

Seeing Scarlett standing there, letting her cry with an innocent look, Ariel helplessly ran a calming hand across Ianthe’s back until she gradually settled.

Releasing her, Scarlett asked, "Now, can you explain what happened with the doll?"

She remained earnest, devoid of emotion.
