Chapter 1424 - Chapter 1424 Chapter 1522 A Fortuitous Encounter
Chapter 1424: Chapter 1522: A Fortuitous Encounter Chapter 1424: Chapter 1522: A Fortuitous Encounter Cangyunzi, with the Moon Flowing Sword in hand, left Chongyun Temple with great reluctance.
In Chongyun Temple, Cangyunzi held a position of great esteem, second only to the two Masters. After all, he was the junior brother of the two Masters, and during the last great battle between two lands, Cangyunzi even had the opportunity to compete for the seat of one of those Masters.
Regrettably, Cangyunzi still fell short, unable to surpass his two senior brothers, whose strength and talent both exceeded his own.
Although he had no chance to ascend to a Master’s position, Cangyunzi still held a high status within Chongyun Temple. All those from the Taoist Sect had to treat him with full respect.
However, this time, being ordered to execute Fang Lin was something Cangyunzi was truly unwilling to do. If it weren’t for the Masters giving him the Moon Flowing Sword, Cangyunzi might have stubbornly refused.
Cangyunzi also knew that if he refused this mission, the two Masters would probably hold him in even lower regard.
“Damn Fang Lin, why couldn’t you just stay put in your Nine Countries? Why did you have to come to the Seven Seas and invade our Taoist Sect’s territory, causing me such trouble?” muttered Cangyunzi, flying at a leisurely pace.
Cangyunzi had once witnessed the prowess of the Old Dried Corpse. The Burning Lamp Buddha, with the power of faith from numerous monks and Buddhas of the Buddhist Sect, unleashed a Buddha flower of tremendous might and still could not contend with that mysterious expert.
Cangyunzi had no desire to provoke that mysterious strong man. Although that mysterious strong man might not be by Fang Lin’s side for the time being, such things were unpredictable. If that mysterious strong man was still around, he would foolishly rush to confront Fang Lin, shouting and brawling, only to be slapped to death by a casual blow from the strong man.
The more Cangyunzi thought about it, the more he felt he should not confront Fang Lin. He would rather roam around outside for a while, then find a place to hide for a few days. When he returned to Chongyun Temple, he would simply say he hadn’t encountered Fang Lin. He figured the two Master brothers wouldn’t say much about it.
“Heh, I am quite wise after all,” Cangyunzi secretly admired his own cunning, while also looking down on Supreme Palace and True Martial Hall.
“That Wang Linlang, a useless bit of trash, personally took action and still couldn’t handle Fang Lin. All those years of cultivation have gone to waste.”
“True Martial Hall is also stupid enough. Knowing full well that Fang Lin possesses the strength to contend with the Great Longevity Ones, and even has a puppet from the Dragon Family Demon, they still only sent those seven fledglings, the Seven Heroes of True Martial, to their deaths.”
“If Supreme Palace and True Martial Hall had put forth more effort, they might have already taken care of Fang Lin, and my Master brothers would not have had to send me out.”
As such, Cangyunzi’s mind was filled with wild and chaotic thoughts. He flew without knowing how far, his mind quite at ease, having resolved not to meet with Fang Lin and planning to find a secluded place to hide away.
A day later, while Cangyunzi was still aimlessly wondering, he suddenly noticed a mountain peak upon the sea surface below.
“This place is not bad. I’ll hide out here for a while, then head back after a few days,” Cangyunzi grinned and headed towards the mountain peak.
Landing on the mountain peak, Cangyunzi stood at the summit, looking out over the boundless sea, his heart filled with a sense of grandeur.
“Alas, I, Cangyunzi, if not for lacking in strength, might have had a shot at that position of Master at Chongyun Temple,” Cangyunzi sighed with longing, his face showing a mix of complexity and emotion.
Cangyunzi sat down, pulled out the Moon Flowing Sword, his face full of affection.
“Such a fine sword, it’s a pity it’s not mine,” Cangyunzi caressed the scabbard, envy on his face.
“This sword is indeed not bad,” a voice suddenly rang out, carrying a hint of amusement.
“Yes, this sword belongs to my Master brother, of course, it’s not bad,” Cangyunzi replied reflexively.
But after he answered, Cangyunzi was suddenly dumbstruck.
Then, Cangyunzi stood up abruptly, his face filled with a wary look, casting glances left and right, even looking up to the sky.
“Who’s there? Come out at once if you’re bold enough, or scurry away like a coward!” Cangyunzi roared, bristling with anger, which actually made him look quite authoritative.
After all, he was one of the distinguished experts of the Taoist Sect, and though he dared not confront Fang Lin, it didn’t mean Cangyunzi was a cowardly or timid person.
“Cangyunzi, open your eyes wider and see who I am,” the mocking voice rang out again.
This time Cangyunzi heard it loud and clear, whirling around to see a young man sitting behind him, looking at him with a half-smiling gaze.
Seeing the young man’s face, Cangyunzi almost cried out in shock, his complexion changing rapidly, and a fine sheen of sweat appeared on his forehead.
“Cangyunzi, we’ve met before, haven’t we? How do you not recognize me?” the young man smiled.
Cangyunzi managed an awkward smile, “Oh, it turns out to be Young Friend Fang Lin.”
Indeed, the young man who had spoken so suddenly was none other than Fang Lin, and this mountain peak rising from the sea was Fang Lin’s Boundless Mountain.
“Cangyunzi, how did you know I was here?” Fang Lin asked somewhat puzzled.
Cangyunzi felt like weeping, who knew how you got here, I was just here to hide away for a bit, how could I have expected you, this harbinger of doom, to also be here?
“Er, well, that’s a long story,” Cangyunzi said, edging away subtly.
Fang Lin, observing Cangyunzi’s behavior, knew the man might be wary of him and not dare to make a move.
However, that was just Fang Lin’s speculation; after all, Cangyunzi was one of the Great Longevity, who knew what he was plotting.
Right there and then, Fang Lin said, “Cangyunzi, you must have come for me, haven’t you?”
Cangyunzi chuckled, “You jest, my friend, how could I possibly come to deal with you?”
“Is that so? I’ve killed quite a few of your Taoist Sect people in your own territory, and there are still hundreds of heads hanging under this mountain,” Fang Lin stated.
Cangyunzi internally cursed, but still maintained a smiling face, “You worry too much, friend. Those people from the Taoist Sect brought it upon themselves by offending you.”
Fang Lin curled his lip, his face showing disdain, “You’re really something, to say such things as a member of the Taoist Sect. If other members heard that, wouldn’t they take offense and call you out for it?”
Of course, Cangyunzi knew his words had offended many, but since no one else was there, what he said remained unknown, and surely he wasn’t afraid that Fang Lin would tell the others, was he?
“Since you, young friend, are resting here, I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll take my leave,” Cangyunzi said as he gave Fang Lin a cupped fist salute, his face all smiles, hoping to slip away quickly.
But Fang Lin grabbed Cangyunzi’s arm in a flash, causing him to jump in fright.
