Chapter 145: 145

After resting for half an hour, some color returned to Michelle’s face, and she stood up, stretching her body a bit. She felt a bit stiff after not moving for over half an hour.

As she glanced around, she saw Alexander’s deep gaze at her, making her arch an eyebrow.

"What?" she asked, a frown slowly forming on her forehead. She didn’t like that gaze.

But Alexander didn’t react one bit. He just kept staring at Michelle, clearly deep in thought.

Bothered by the gaze, Michelle walked over to Alexander, lifted her hand, put it right in front of Alexander’s face, and snapped her fingers, bringing him back to reality.

"What’s with your gaze?" she asked. "I hope you didn’t fall in love with me!" she said sarcastically before walking back to Mare and the boulder of Void Obsidian.

Snapping back to reality, Alexander watched Michelle’s back, a realization hitting him. Then, a smirk formed on his lips, something lighting up within his eyes.

"Did you already succeed in something?" Alexander asked, his expression and voice once again a painting of amusement, as he walked over to Michelle. Standing behind her, he leaned down a bit and rested his chin on the top of her head.

Suddenly feeling Alexander lean on her, Michelle froze in shock for a moment. She had no idea why he was acting like that without any warning.

"I was able to change the contract mark back to its original state. But only partly."

"And how did you do it?" Alexander didn’t move a muscle, just remained with his weight pressing on Michelle’s head.

"I shattered the new part that appeared..." Michelle started, slowly explaining everything she did and found out in Mare’s soul.

After listening to Michelle, Alexander raised a brow. The tunnels of soul energy she created intrigued him.

"So, now you are thinking of a way to use the void for healing?" he asked, shifting his weight a bit, which nearly made Michelle fall over because she suddenly felt even more weight against her head and back.

"Yes..." Michelle narrowed her eyes as she stabilized herself. "But I don’t know how to do it. Void has destructive properties."

"What about using the tunnels?" Alexander asked as he moved his hands in front of Michelle to get a hold of her hands, starting to play with her fingers.

"How could that help?" Michelle asked, staring down at her fingers intertwined with Alexander’s. Her confusion was just growing. It was impossible to understand what that man was thinking.

"If you can make a thin but sturdy tunnel, you should be able to let the void affect Mare’s soul, but at the same time, you will still be able to restrain it if it causes more damage," Alexander said with a smile, pinching Michelle’s palm.

"Is that even possible?" Michelle flung her hand to the side to shake Alexander’s hand off, but he was like a leech, refusing to let go. He even added more strength to the pinch, making Michelle grit her teeth. She felt like cussing him out, but since he was giving her advice about Mare, she withheld her anger.

"Of course it is!" Alexander finally let go of Michelle’s hand after seeing her palm turn red. "But you need to possess a skill with which you can directly manipulate someone’s soul."

These words made Michelle frown.

"Does a memory manipulation skill count?" she asked. She didn’t know if it would be useful, as the skill could only affect memories and not the whole soul.

Michelle’s question clearly surprised Alexander.

"How come you have a memory manipulation skill?" he asked. As far as he knew, even in the Upper and Heavenly Realm, only monsters had such a skill.

But Michelle didn’t feel like answering, so she just shrugged. Also, she wasn’t really happy with how close Alexander was to her, so she had no plans to humor him.

"Can it be used?" she asked instead of answering.

Not getting an answer, Alexander wasn’t the least bit surprised.

"Yes, it can be used," he said, his smile widening.

"That’s good..." Michelle nodded in satisfaction. "So how do I use it?" she asked.

"I don’t know!" Alexander shrugged. "I just know you need it. You have to figure out how to use it yourself."

Hearing that, Michelle felt her fingers twitch in anger. She was grasping at straws of her rationality, or her hands would have already been clenched into fists and she would have barraged punches at Alexander, even if she was insignificantly weak compared to him.

She didn’t believe that Alexander didn’t know. If he didn’t know, he most probably wouldn’t have been able to tell her that her memory manipulation skill was usable.

"Now, now..." Alexander continued playing with Michelle’s fingers. "Don’t get so angry. You have to figure some things out yourself."

Michelle understood what Alexander was hinting at, and she also didn’t want to lead the kind of life where everything would be prepared for her on a silver plate. But she despised the fact that Alexander thought he could blatantly lie to her, saying he didn’t know what to do. It was clear he knew she would see right through his lie, but he still used the lie.

That infuriated Michelle. But she was no match against Alexander, so she could just push her elbow backward, hitting him in the chest before walking over to the boulder again.

After putting on the glove made of Mare’s shed skin, Michelle put her hand on the boulder and pulled the void into her body after coating it with her thinned-out soul energy. Then, she put her other hand on Mare’s body and sent the void into it.

When the void completely filled up Mare’s body, Michelle let her soul energy follow the void into Mare’s soul, where she once again surrounded it and started creating one long tunnel all over the soul, leading the void to swim around.

Alexander had told her to use the tunnels and the memory manipulation skill, and though she didn’t like him, she knew when to take good advice. So she was going to try it. Using the method of trial and error wasn’t that bad of an idea, because even if she messed up something with the void, the tunnels would block it from causing any further damage to Mare’s soul.

Summoning both her soul and spirit energy within her body, Michelle activated the memory manipulation skill she inherited from Rivenaar and sent it into Mare’s soul. There, it mixed with the void and started swimming along the tunnel of soul energy.

Remembering Alexander’s words about needing to make the tunnels thin, Michelle considered two options. Either he meant that the tunnel, as a tube, should be narrow, or he meant that the walls of the tunnel should be thin.

And there was also the possibility of doing both, but if that was the case, Michelle didn’t have the confidence that the tunnel wouldn’t break down under the destructive force of the void, especially since the spirit energy it was made of was already thinned out.

So Michelle decided to try them one by one, the first being narrowing the tunnel.

Putting her full concentration into it, she started moving the soul energy used to create the tunnel to shrink closer, until the long tunnel was just a long tube.

When she was done with that, her face was deathly pale. She had far from enough rest after using her soul energy to lead the void to destroy the butterfly, and she was already using it once again alongside a skill with a combination of both soul and spirit energy.

With the tunnel turned into a long tube, Michelle gritted her teeth to ignore the throbbing in her temples and observed as the void and memory manipulation skill flew at high speed through it, but it didn’t affect the state of Mare’s soul. Which meant that narrowing the tunnel wasn’t what Alexander meant.

The next thing Michelle wanted to try was thinning out the walls while the tube was still narrow. If she felt that the tube couldn’t hold the pressure of the void, she would slowly let it widen.

But Michelle was already exhausted, so her control over her soul energy was lowered. And that made the whole process even harder for her.

Slowly, she started pulling back her soul energy, but at the same time, she made sure that no cracks appeared in the tube.

At first, she didn’t really have trouble keeping everything in check, but after a while, she felt the tube tremble under the power of the void, so she stopped pulling back the soul energy and instead started forcing the soul energy apart, which made it wider and thinner.

A while later, the tube was once again a tunnel, but the walls were paper-thin, and it was much wider than when Michelle had first created it.

Finally, Michelle stopped doing anything with the tunnel and just observed it. But concentrating turned into a challenge for her because she had a terrible migraine from exhaustion and constant overuse of her soul energy. Still, she pushed herself to concentrate on what was happening within the tunnel. She had to see if what she did was able to somehow help fix Mare’s damaged soul.
