Chapter 144: 144

"Void Plague..." Michelle muttered as she swept her gaze over Mare’s long and sleek snake body, coiled around the Void Obsidian. "But doesn’t that infect someone if void gets stuck in or around their body? So if I pull the void out of her, she should be fine."

"No!" Alexander shook his head. His voice was still playful and carefree, but there was a hint of seriousness. "Void has an expansive tendency, so if even a speck of it enters her body, when you pull it out, it will leave behind some remnants which will expand and throw her into the same condition I was in."

Alexander’s words made Michelle frown. "Well, that’s troublesome..." she said with a sigh.

"Why don’t you just proceed with the plan?" Alexander leaned against the cave wall, his black eyes fixated on Michelle. "In the end, you can always just cure her of Void Plague if she gets it. You were able to cure me, so curing Mare shouldn’t be a problem."

"That might be true..." Michelle kept frowning. "But if it were possible, I would like to fix the contract without putting Mare through pain."

"She is unconscious. She won’t remember it." Alexander tilted his head a bit. "You have nothing to worry about. Even if it seems like she is conscious, that’s just the damage to her soul and contract controlling her. She is completely unaware of what is going on."

Hearing that, Michelle’s purple eyes widened, and she turned her head to look at Alexander. "Why didn’t you say that earlier? I thought she was conscious the whole time!"

Alexander shrugged. "I had no reason to. Whether she’s conscious or not doesn’t affect the process of fixing the damage caused by the soul energy."

With a sigh, Michelle turned her head back to Mare and the boulder, knowing that talking with Alexander any more would be pointless. "I’m going to start, so step back a bit," she finally said as she closed her purple eyes again.

Under her command, the two cages of her solidified soul energy, which she created within and just around the boulder, started shrinking. The cage outside the boulder sank into it, and the cage within started pressing the soul energy into a small circle.

Soon, Michelle could feel void forming within the inner cage. But the outer cage still had some scattered soul energy dancing within it, so she proceeded with shrinking only the outer cage until it touched the inner cage and thus forced the soul energy to seep into the space of the inner cage and join the created void.

After all the soul energy within the Void Obsidian was transformed into void, Michelle dispelled the cages and used her soul energy to surround the void and slowly push it closer and closer to the spot where her hand was touching the boulder through the glove made out of Mare’s shed skin.

When the void reached the place right under Michelle’s hand, she used her soul energy to surround it even tighter before pulling it into her body through the glove.

The whole time, she was careful so that not even a single crack appeared within her spirit energy surrounding the void, so it wouldn’t come in contact with her body. Because if it did, it would realize that her soul energy was basically void, and it would most probably assimilate with it.

And she couldn’t afford that. She already had a hard time trying to use as little of her soul energy as possible, using just a fraction of her full power to surround the void, so it wouldn’t notice the thickness of her soul energy. She was basically forcefully thinning down her own soul energy so she could help Mare.

Pulling the void through her body, beads of sweat formed on Michelle’s forehead from how much she had to concentrate. She felt like her consciousness was about to fall apart and she was about to faint, but she refused to give in. She gritted her teeth through the pain in her temples and forehead and moved the void to her left hand, which was still on the side of Mare’s body.

The moment the void reached her palm, she pushed it into Mare’s body, sending it into her veins.

Within Mare’s body, she retracted her own soul energy and just observed as the void started spreading out around the huge snake body.

In an instant, it was clear that without anything to control it, the void would cause extreme damage, but Michelle had to wait for a bit before she could intervene. First, she needed the void to spread to Mare’s soul and reach the damaged parts, even if it meant that it would bring about more damage. That was the only way to fix the damage. And while doing that, Michelle would need to fix the new damage too.

Very quickly, the void spread all around Mare’s body and started forcing its way into her soul. That was also a sign that her body had been afflicted with Void Plague.

But Michelle could do nothing about it at the moment. She had to focus on the damage to Mare’s soul before taking care of her body.

Taking off the glove on her right hand, Michelle put both her hands on Mare’s body and closed her eyes, sending her soul energy to chase after the void so she could control it to fix the damage.

A moment later, Michelle’s face went pale as she once again surrounded the void with her soul energy. But at the moment, she didn’t surround it completely. She left some cracks in her soul energy so the void could still have access to Mare’s soul.

Then, she forced the void to move to the damaged parts of Mare’s soul, like the spot where the contract mark was nestling.

At first, the void just raged around and caused more damage, but Michelle used her soul energy to protect the contract mark, and also formed something like tunnels around it for the void to flow through.

And all the tunnels were opening on one part of the contract mark—the butterfly which wasn’t originally there.

Flowing out of the tunnels, the void crashed into the butterfly and cracks started to appear on it.

Feeling it with her soul energy, Michelle kept creating the tunnels and letting them fall apart until the butterfly shattered. Then, she quickly surrounded the void with her soul energy once again and dragged it away from the contract mark.

Also, there was one thing she didn’t like. The void was clearly highly destructive, but she needed it to fix the damage it had caused, so she somehow needed to subdue it so it could have restoring or, even better, healing effects.

But even keeping the void in check so it wouldn’t cause more damage was already taking a toll on Michelle’s mind, making her feel like she was going to black out any moment. So she had no clue as to how she could use the destructive void for healing.

Still, already having achieved getting rid of the butterfly in the contract mark was a good start. Thus, Michelle decided to put the void back into the Void Obsidian and rest a bit before considering more ways to repair Mare’s damaged soul.

When the void was back in the boulder, Michelle stepped back and sat on the ground in exhaustion. Her face was pale and her breath shallow and quick. She wanted nothing more than to sleep, but she knew she couldn’t do it.

She had the feeling that she had overused her soul energy, so if she fell asleep at the moment, she would sleep for a long time, which could endanger Mare since she was infected with the Void Plague.

The only thing she could do was try to recover her soul energy and think about ways to turn rampaging void into a healing power.

As Mare’s life was in no immediate danger, Michelle decided to rest for half an hour before thinking of something. It was always good to think about serious decisions and hard things slowly after taking some rest, to prevent making rushed decisions, not thought through properly.

While Michelle sat on the ground in exhaustion, Alexander stared at her with his black eyes. The usually present amusement was nowhere to be seen. He was deep in thought, considering what it was about that young girl that made him act so out of character.

Usually, seeing others angry was just boring and had no meaning to him. And even seeing others work hard and desperately to achieve something was seen as meaningless in his eyes. The only thing to ever amuse him was watching his enemies suffer. To get back at those who had ever angered him.

But the silver-haired, purple-eyed girl with Spirit Soul Blood in front of him had affected him in ways no one was ever able to. When her eyes turned scarlet in anger, but she concealed it, he always felt like laughing.

When she followed him to the basement under the tavern, he was thinking of all the ways to anger her.

When she asked him for help in locating a water source underground, he suddenly wanted to touch her. So he grabbed her wrist and showed her the lake.

When she used her soul energy to drop the temperature in the basement, he wanted to see how far she would be able to take it.

When she decided to get rid of the humidity in the basement, he suddenly felt like prying her head open to see what she was thinking and what she was capable of.

And when he was watching her work hard to heal her contract beast, a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips, and a desire arose within his heart. The desire to push her buttons even in a situation serious to her, just to see her reaction.
