Chapter 89: Moonlight Festival (1)
The New Year quickly passed, and in the blink of an eye, almost two weeks had passed, which meant the Moonlight Festival was coming up in a few days. This festival was actually more like the New Year of the Empire, when most people celebrated grandiosely.
It was also a weeklong celebration, and the capital or even the whole empire was in a festive atmosphere. It was also one of the most celebrated occasions at the Katz Mansion.
Some of the relatives from the Katz domain would visit the main house to celebrate, and his father would host a banquet for the festival. So, Arren also had to help, and this time his tricks from last time to leave wouldn’t work anymore. The Duke was especially strict at this time.
As the Katz Mansion was getting busier and livelier with the arrival of the side branches, Arren was also getting busy, not to help decorate the mansion with lanterns but to rack his brains on how to inform Spade of what was going to happen.
He still would never forget what was the most important plot point that would happen in the opening of the Moonlight Festival in the Capital square. That was next Monday, January 17. It was already Wednesday, January 12.
That meant Arren only had five days to prepare. However, he had yet to think about how to reveal it to the alpha. Could he say: "The organization was plotting on this day, and a lot of alphas would go berserk, you have to prepare?"
Arren was afraid his alpha would not only look at him suspiciously but would also ask him if he was dreaming. Although Spade would never ask him directly about it for fear of hurting his feelings, the best-case scenario was for the alpha to trust him unconditionally without asking him any questions.
However, how would he explain it soon after? His brain cells were in full force again; this was too troubling. Should he hint at Spade about it, like adding some security at the venue for immediate response?
Arren could only cross that plan out; that might be the best option so he wouldn’t be suspected too much, but the problem was still there. There would still be chaos that would happen, which would be the biggest scandal of the Empire to date. And the fact that it happened in the middle of Spade’s speech too meant that Arren couldn’t accept it happening.
He had to stop it no matter what, he couldn’t do anything for those alphas that would go berserk because of the drugs because Arren didn’t know their names at all! Otherwise, he could only hunt them one by one this early on.
He pinched the space between his eyebrows and concentrated on his little notebook and the notes that he scribbled on it. No matter what meditation he did, Arren had no idea at all! Was he so stupid? Arren could never admit it himself.
Directly informing was still out of the question, but talking in circles was still possible; in any case, he was already suspicious last time. Arren had thought that being suspicious more was the only solution, and if the alpha asked, he might reveal it then.
He was truly tired of being secretive; his brain would never take it. Having decided what action he would take, Arren closed his little notebook and leaned on his seat before fiddling with his phone.
It was still early and a weekday, so Arren didn’t want to disturb Spade yet, as he was aware the alpha was truly busy this time just like his father for the coming festival.
So, he wanted to call someone else who was in the palace as well. However, he had yet to search for his name when Rave’s name flashed on his screen.
"Oh? He’s calling me?" Arren was stunned for a bit. This wasn’t the first time that Rave called him first, but that was the time they had some spy reports that were more like gossip. As they didn’t have any plans, which usually happen on Saturday, Arren was slightly surprised and also curious.
Arren answered the call and changed for the video call, the white-haired omega’s appearance quickly occupied his phone screen.
"Why did you call me?" he asked, somewhat annoyed, although he was also about to call the other. Of course, his advantage was that Rave didn’t know it. "Can’t you see I’m busy?" he complained.
Rave stared at him and narrowed his eyes. "You’re in your room, you didn’t appear busy to me," he said, still with the graceful tone that was truly pleasing to the ears, but Arren sometimes hated it when it became monotonous and he was being sarcastic with him.
Arren snickered and put his phone in a more comfortable position on his study table, resting his chin on his knees. "I’m busy, you just can’t see it," he retorted.
The white-haired omega opened his mouth to refute but instead rolled his eyes and stopped arguing with Arren over these small matters. However, Arren wasn’t happy with this small win, as it only appeared the other didn’t want to argue with someone stupid. This was something he really hated about this white-haired omega the most!
He pursed his lips but didn’t comment on it; he would have appeared petty otherwise, confirming Rave’s impression of him!
"So, why did you call?" Arren asked again, still wanting to maintain that he had the upper hand as the one asking the question.
Rave focused his attention on his question and answered, "I’m just informing you of something."
"Oh? What is it?" Arren became instantly interested; it had to be something important, as this omega would never focus on something nonsense.
"Are you going to attend the opening of the Moonlight Festival?" Rave asked, and he nodded an answer. He would definitely attend with his father.
Rave nodded with this answer and vaguely continued, "Sure enough, since His Majesty already doubled the security of the place."
Arren raised a brow, so Spade was already doubling the guards of the festival, and he didn’t need to remind him. However, a question mark still appeared in his head as to what made this important for the omega to call him.
"So? Did you call me for that?" He asked, slightly confused. If it was only this, Arren had the means to ask him later, Rave didn’t need to especially inform him.
"Of course, I didn’t call you just for this." The omega’s voice became solemn in an instant, and he then looked around in his vicinity, Arren became serious because of this. What information was this that Rave needed to be cautious about?
A realization hit him, it must be about the organization. Arren couldn’t think of anything that the omega would be cautious about talking about.
"What is it?" Arren asked, his voice much more serious this time.
He believed that the information Rave gave him had something to do with the plot point he knew, or at least had some connection with it. Arren was aware that the omega could inform Spade directly about it, but clearly, it was easier to tell him than he could relay to the alpha.
Arren stared at the omega, and his mind became active before his eyes became bright. If what Rave was going to say had really something to do with what would happen on Monday, could he take advantage of it to tell Spade the details he knew?
It seemed possible!
