The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 187: Fever
Chapter 187: Fever
It was as though all his grievances evaporated after telling Spade what he truly felt. Ah, it wasn’t like it was completely gone, but having the opportunity to vent greatly lessened the burden in his heart.
While Spade lay down on his bed, Arren had another anxiety and that was different from his fear earlier. He had always been the one who was sick and being taken care of, but he didn’t know if he could take care of someone who was sick.
"What do you feel? Is your head in pain? Wait, should I call for an imperial doctor?" Arren continued to ramble, asking Spade, but it was clear he was panicking about what to do.
Spade stopped his thoughts as the alpha held his hand, pulling him closer, and Arren was now sitting beside him. Grasping his hand, he could feel the warmth of Spade’s palm, he was truly burning up.
"S-Spade, tell me what you need." Arren also gripped the alpha’s hand; he stared at him, worry evident in his eyes.
Their eyes met. Spade couldn’t open his eyes properly anymore because of the fever, but there was still a bright smile on his lips. He squeezed Arren’s hand. "I only need you," he said, his voice hoarse. Unlike the other times when Arren could appreciate this sexy voice, at this moment he only felt distressed.
He pouted, and grumbled, "I’m asking seriously, Spade." Even though he said that his heart became warm with his words.
"I’m also answering you seriously, Arren." the alpha responded, a small smile on his lips as he also played with Arren’s fingers, interlocking their fingers. "This is all I need," he said honestly.
The warmth of his hands and even his words gave Arren the realization that he also felt the same thing. Wasn’t the reason he became mad and scared because he needed Spade? He needed him because he loved him.
All his emotions were always intense when he was with Spade. His love, desire, happiness, sadness, and even fear. The alpha did become part of him and occupied a big space in his whole being, and Arren never halted this progress the moment he accepted his feelings for Spade.
He clenched his teeth, his eyes heating up once more. Arren squeezed the alpha’s hand tightly and stared at his half-lidded eyes. He always said he was crazy, but it seemed his love for Spade gave him the same madness, but the type he would gladly embrace.
"You’re sick, Spade." He licked his lips, and with a trace of a smile appearing on his lips, his mood improved. "Don’t be so cheesy now."
Spade chuckled, "I only have a fever; I know what I’m saying." He still tried to convince him, not knowing that Arren would always believe him.
Arren also couldn’t help but laugh; it was his first since his outburst earlier. The atmosphere between them significantly improved after they acknowledged their issue. It was unlike the time when they both acted oblivious and there was still a false peace between them; it made one suffocate.
"Okay, I believe you now." Arren decided to end it since he was really getting worried. He touched Spade’s forehead, and he almost flinched at how hot he had become! His eyes widened, and he exclaimed in shock, "Spade, how can you still speak normally with this temperature?"
There was no need to check it; he was too hot. Arren knew he could never think straight in this state, but Spade obviously could endure it!
"No, this won’t do. I’ll call for the imperial doctor immediately." The panic in his voice returned. He looked at Spade and took a deep breath, calming his emotions. Panicking wouldn’t help them; he needed to relax to think clearly.
"Arren, I’m fine," Spade voiced out, but with his hoarse voice and this temperature, he could never convince Arren.
He glared at the alpha, "What do you mean you’re fine? Spade, you have a high fever! Be obedient and stop talking, I’ll take care of the rest." Arren reprimanded Spade, his tone tinged with authority, not giving any room for objections.
In fact, not even Arren noticed his tone, only Spade. He was taken aback for a moment by being reprimanded before a warm smile appeared on his lips. This wasn’t so bad, really.
And when Arren saw that smile, he became pissed and then worried. "What are you smiling for? Wait, is the fever finally getting into your head? I need to call the doctor now." He rambled quickly, and Spade, who had his ears ringing, could barely keep up. "But first, I’ll check your temperature."
Arren looked at Spade, squeezing his hand, "I’ll come down first and will be back soon. Be obedient, okay, just lie here and wait for me." His tone was soft and comforting, it was as though he were talking to a child.
If not for Spade’s not wanting to piss Arren off and the fact that his head ached so much, he would’ve laughed. It was not to say it was funny, but that... He liked it so much.
He settled on nodding his head, but that action almost made him wince. Fortunately, Arren didn’t take notice of it.
"Okay, wait for me." Arren stood up and hurriedly climbed down the stairs, aiming to find their head auntie. He was inexperienced in taking care of a patient, but that couldn’t be said for their servants. He was also willing to learn, it wasn’t that hard, maybe?
Once he was on the first floor, he sought out the head auntie, and it didn’t take long for him to find her. She always supervises the kitchen first. Everyone was busier than usual since they had guests, and one of them was even the Emperor, so aside from the enthusiasm, they were also nervous.
As soon as Arren entered the kitchen, everyone immediately noticed him and stopped what they were doing for a moment.
"Young Master, is there something you need?" The head auntie took the initiative and asked while approaching Arren.
Arren, who was still catching up on his breath since he ran all the way here from his room on the third floor, couldn’t respond for a second. He exhaled and answered her, "Y-Yes, you, auntie. Ah, I mean, the medical kit, and then, yes, you. I need you, auntie." He grasped the head auntie’s hand and looked straight into her eyes to let her know how urgent this was.
The head auntie noticed it easily, without asking for more information, she looked at the kitchen staff and quickly gave her instructions before returning her attention to Arren.
"Let’s go, Young Master."
And the two of them went to find the medical kit. This was also the time when he slightly briefed her on Spade’s condition.
"His Majesty has a fever?" she exclaimed, as though it were hard to believe. Actually, Arren also had the same expression since he never thought Spade could get sick.
Well, he was also a human, but his dominant figure made one neglect this fact, sometimes. So, the auntie’s reaction was understandable.
They hurriedly came back to Arrren’s room, where Spade was, and as soon as he entered his room, the alpha’s pheromones quickly pervaded his nose. Damn, it was really bad. He looked at the auntie and noticed her trembling hands. He sighed. Of course, she was a beta, but still, Spade’s pheromones were so dominant that betas were also affected.
"Auntie, can you endure it?" he politely asked. If she couldn’t, he could just seek advice from her later on the things he needed to know.
The auntie breathed heavily, and she smiled weakly. "I’ll endure it, Young Master."
Arren felt bad, but since she already said that, Arren chose to believe her. He didn’t have any time to convince her otherwise. He entered the room and went straight to his bed.
"Spade, can you hear me? Are you still conscious?" he gently asked while stroking the alpha’s warm cheek as he also released his pheromones, enveloping the alpha in an attempt to calm him down.
"Arren?" he slowly asked. He tried to open his eyes but could only slightly open them.
"Yes, it’s me." He swallowed the distress and panic in his voice, "Let me... take your temperature, okay?" He then looked and nodded to her. Spade only hummed as an answer; at least he could still hear him.
He took the thermometer from the auntie and started to take his temperature. While doing so, he asked Spade again. "Do you have your phone with you? I need to contact an imperial doctor." He didn’t have the necessary contact numbers, and Arren was also aware Spade’s call would have a response right away.
Spade nodded again, this time, he couldn’t hide it anymore and winced from the pain. His head was throbbing so much that even listening to Arren’s voice intensified it. Fortunately, the omega’s pheromones gradually calmed his own.
Arren noticed it, and his hand shook before exhaling deeply. Spade needed him more this time; he couldn’t afford to panic.
"Okay, I won’t you anymore, just... rest. I’ll be here." He leaned forward and whispered to Spade’s ears while grasping his hand.
Not long after, the thermometer rang, indicating that it was finished. He looked at it immediately, blinked, and almost thought he saw something wrong.
"40 degrees," he mumbled, as though becoming dazed because of it. "No, I won’t call for an imperial doctor; auntie, please ready the car. We’ll rush to the hospital immediately."
His temperature was so high that Arren became anxious, he didn’t know if it would rise further without treatment right away. Rather than calling for an imperial doctor, he would be assured that Spade would be admitted to the hospital.
Just as the auntie responded to him. Spade clutched his hand and spoke in an extremely hoarse voice, "There’s no need to, just call... for an imperial doctor."
