Chapter 170: Unstable (1)

"Do you want to go back now?"

Rave was looking at the beach outside when his dad asked him, and soon Ivo was already beside him. He blinked his eyes and then looked at his dad.

It had been days since they met again, and Rave still thought sometimes that he was only dreaming. This was his important goal at the start: to find and see his parents once more, and now that it was almost within his reach, he still felt it was surreal.

However, he knew that it was real. One of his parents, whom he had been longing for, was already here. Rave couldn’t think or do anything else during the past few days as he only focused on his father; he didn’t even ask anything yet.

He didn’t want to ruin it; Rave only wanted to treasure the time he had been dreaming of, just being with his parents. However, now that a few days had passed and the overwhelming feelings had somewhat calmed down, he knew that it was time to face reality once more.

Rave was truly happy, or rather, he was glad to see Ivo after all these years and that all his efforts were not in vain; he was really alive, and he was there in the flesh.

It was just that... Rave stared at Ivo and the burned scars that he tried to ignore and overlook after their reunion. He clasped his hands in front of him and pursed his lips. He was upset. Not to his parents, but in the situation, it was as if he could vaguely foresee that the fight was not truly over.

His omega father was here, but not his alpha dad. Rave was afraid to ask this; he thought he wasn’t ready yet to know and confirm his guess.

But now, there was no use in running away; in fact, running away and escaping to reality was never the way he did things. Only when it came to his family and the people he was close with did he often use his emotions rather than his rationality.

He swallowed his saliva, and the way his heartbeat skipped a beat was beginning to slow down as he took a deep breath to calm himself. Rave shook his head as if to answer Ivo’s question.

"Papa... where is daddy?" Rave asked, each word so lower than his first words that it was barely audible when he finished. He blinked his eyes before adding once more, "And... what happened?"

His last statement was too broad, but Rave couldn’t find the right words or say that it was actually difficult to ask this. They both had hardships, but Rave believed their circumstances were different; his parents definitely suffered more than him through these years.

Ivo seemed to read the conflicted emotions within him as his eyes flashed with sadness and much more conflict. He approached Rave, stepped closer, and hugged his precious son, consoling him.

"I knew you would ask me eventually." There was a smile on his lips, proud of his son. Whatever Rave did, Ivo would always be proud of him; in his eyes, his son was the one he was most proud of in this world. He withdrew slightly, and lowered his head as he caressed his son’s head. "Let’s talk, and I’ll tell you what you want to know."

Rave directly met his father’s eyes; his firmness, sincerity, and fondness were all reflected in his eyes. He knew that Ivo would truly answer whatever he asked. After a while, he nodded his head. He might not be ready inside, but he would be.

As both were decisive, it didn’t take long, and they were already in the living room of Ivo’s small villa. Formality was not needed between the father and son, and Ivo went straight to recounting some of his experiences to Rave, who was listening attentively to his side.

They were pressed against each other. Rave was leaning toward Ivo as his hand gently brushed his son’s hair. Both had conflicted hearts but found comfort in each other.

"There’s a lot that happened in all those years of hiding," Ivo began. He still tried to mince his words that Rave would be able to take in, making it lighter for both of them. There was no need to make it more complicated and heavy, Rave didn’t need to know the true extent of their sufferings.

He cocked his head and fixed his gaze on his son, giving off an assuring pheromone amidst the heavy topic, no matter how Ivo tried to downplay it.

"We have to do things covertly and hide in the eyes of not only the organization but the eyes of the empire as well. We don’t want to implicate you further, it was also okay that... the world thought we were dead." In the end, Ivo failed to make the ambiance lighter as Rave’s shoulder drooped slightly, pursing his lips to control his emotions.

"But you’re not." Rave couldn’t help but argue; he didn’t want that his parents were dead to the world.

Ivo smiled, and his eyes flashed endearingly. "It was enough that you knew." However, it was only momentarily, as he became sad soon after. "Actually, I was hoping you could also forget about us, treat us dead like the rest of the world, and move on with your life. It is what you deserved and what we wanted for you."

Rave was about to argue, but Ivo beat him for it as he continued, "Of course, I also know that it’s impossible, our dear Rave loves us as we love him so much. So, we... purposely lost your tracks and deceived you with wrong trails throughout the years." Ivo became honest once and for all.

Rave was taken aback but didn’t interrupt this time and let his father continue.

"We know that you’re investigating the organization to know our whereabouts, and that is so dangerous. Son, we know how dangerous the organization is, and there’s no going back once you already know about them." Ivo’s expression and voice turned solemn, and there was a lingering fear that flickered in his eyes.

"What you’re doing puts you at risk of being targeted. In fact, being our son can already be considered that you’re on their radar, so we did our best to make your presence nonexistent or at least unimportant in their eyes."

Ivo and his husband knew he started to investigate past events, and they threw wrong information and trails throughout the years, while they also eliminated both their tracks and organization in Rave’s eyes. It was for this reason that no matter how extensive and how Rave expand his sources were, he still couldn’t get a sliver of important information about the organization.

It wasn’t his incompetency or that he couldn’t encounter the organization; his parents already did in advance. This also made the two more conspicuous in the organization’s eyes, as though seemingly jeopardizing their operations.

It was only in the later years, after the forces chasing the two increased, that there was no choice but to leave the capital.
