The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 168: Acting Oblivious
Chapter 168: Acting Oblivious
They were in a panic. Spade almost lost it when he saw Arren faint in his arms after he cried like he was about to suffocate and said things about himself upon waking up from a nightmare.
Truly, Spade did a lot to wake Arren up from the dream, but it was futile as the omega seemed to sleep heavily, but his breath was gradually becoming faint, and he was already anxious and afraid, even desperate.
"How is he?" Spade held Arren’s hand, who was now sleeping again, but the omega might look peaceful in his sleep, but who knew what was going on in his dreams again.
What happened earlier had really given Spade a shadow in his heart and even... deja vu. However, he didn’t have to think over this as his focus was solely on his omega, who was weeping desperately before him, and his mind just went blank.
The doctor was stiff when Spade suddenly asked him. The elder doctor, who was also an omega, didn’t expect to meet the monarch on the island where he was assigned, and on this occasion, the pheromones emitting from the alpha were so suffocating that he, as a mated omega for years, was slightly affected.
He cleared his throat, afraid to make a mistake that would further enrage the alpha before him.
"Your Majesty," he paused before composing himself and decided to look at Arren, who was sleeping instead, as he continued under the urging of Spade’s intimidating gaze. "Young Master Arren is only asleep..."
"Only asleep?" Spade narrowed his eyes dangerously, which scared the timid doctor as he stuttered to hastily add.
"I-I’m sorry, Your Majesty. After examining the Young Master, I didn’t detect any abnormalities in his vitals, all are stable. In fact, it’s really like he is only peacefully sleeping. His temperature is normal, as are his breathing and heart rate. But..." the doctor focused on Arren’s face, showing curiosity on his face.
"But what?" Spade frowned. He squeezed Arren’s hand, as he listened to the doctor.
"For someone who cried uncontrollably and even fainted after that, Young Master’s stable vitals and his not showing any discomfort on his face and body while sleeping can be classified as abnormalities in itself." The doctor became solemn and said, "I’m afraid, my ability and the state of treatment on this island are not enough to detect what his true conditions really are. I suggest that Your Majesty transfer him and examine him in the Imperial Hospital instead."
Spade pursed his lips and stared at his omega, who was really sleeping quite peacefully in bed; he didn’t look like someone who cried and became hysterical just earlier. If it were some other time, he would just look at Arren’s face fondly, but he knew something really was wrong even with the doctor not telling him.
What could possibly go wrong? Why did everything turn out like this? Spade could only ask himself this, unable to come up with an answer. Or he wasn’t ready yet for that answer himself.
Arren slept peacefully for a long time, or at least for him, it was long. He didn’t know a lot about what happened in that dream, though; he just knew that he was talking with someone, and that was it.
Perhaps it was those dreams that one would forget once they woke up. It didn’t make sense for him, but the evidence was clear. He couldn’t remember anything from his dreams when he woke up the next day.
And he wasn’t uncomfortable at all about this fact; if anything, he felt so refreshed after that dream, as though a burden had been lifted off of him by someone. For why he know it was someone? It was only a hunch, nothing more, or the dream’s influence on him.
As he opened his eyes, Arren immediately turned his head to the side to look for Spade beside him, but he wasn’t there. He frowned and roamed his eyes around the room in hope of finding his alpha. And he did, but his frown became deeper as Spade was sitting beside the bed and was sleeping.
He seemed to be sleeping in that position all night, as though guarding Arren in his sleep. As his gaze lowered, he noticed that the alpha was near his hand, who appeared to be holding his hand but only just loosened somewhat as Spade moved in his position.
Arren stared at Spade, who was sleeping heavily. Even when he was sleeping, his face was still quite intimidating and gave off an unapproachable vibe. There was also an obvious crease in the space between his brows, as his lips were tightly pursed, seemingly in a frown.
Did something happen last night? Arren didn’t know, but from what he could see, something really did happen to him. Perhaps he also had a fever because of his condition, as he always did during his vivid dreams.
But why couldn’t he remember what he dreamed of last night? Unable to think of an answer, Arren sat up from the bed and also held Spade’s hand. This action of his immediately awakened the alpha, who was still in his half-awake state. Spade’s whole attention was already on Arren, as he seemed to be on full alert.
"Are you awake?" he asked as Spade sat in the bed and looked straight into Arren’s eyes, observing him and adding, "Do you want something? Are you uncomfortable?"
The alpha asked a bunch of questions in only a few seconds, and Arren almost couldn’t keep up! Arren was dumbfounded; this was also the first time he saw Spade like this, like he was in a panic, distracted but also so careful at the same time.
Spade could always be worrying about him at times, but most of the time, the alpha still found it to compose himself and soothe Arren, but now it seemed he was the one that needed to console Spade.
After a while, once Spade was finished with his questions, Arren gripped Spade’s hand tightly and smiled assuringly with a touch of sweetness, like he usually would. Since he was really in a good mood, as though the stress and fear of yesterday were but a fleeting dream.
"Why are you like this?" He chuckled and said, "I’m fine. Did I have a fever last night? That’s why you’re so concerned?" He now laughed and tugged Spade’s arm coquettishly, "I told you, I’m only sleeping and having a dream for a while, now, I’m fine. You don’t have to worry anymore." Arren finished with a lovely laugh, comforting his alpha.
Not knowing how Spade’s expressions and emotions sank inside after hearing Arren’s words. It was like... his world was crumbling in front of him, but he couldn’t do anything about it but watch it collapse.
Spade’s lips almost twitched as he forced himself, and then he smiled. He then hugged Arren tightly in his arms while kissing his head. "Yes, I’m deeply worried. I’m happy you’re awake now." His tone was normal, and the deep emotions were concealed skillfully while he shut his eyes heavily.
It was fine; he could act oblivious for Arren. He didn’t want to wake up yet, so he wouldn’t ruin it. He now realized, Arren’s act of escaping reality was never a personality, it was really his way to escape something... really terrible. And Spade was afraid to find out what it was.
