The dream was like any other; Arren felt as though he was falling and yet not at the same time. It was so dark. He wasn’t afraid of the dark, but at this moment, the deafening silence and dark surroundings terrified him so much.

It was vivid, but the other few times weren’t as terrifying as this one. He was alone in this dark place, with his senses also leaving him.

His mouth wanted to open and shout, but he couldn’t. What was this dream? Why was it so dark and quiet in here? Was there someone in this place like him?

And as an answer to his question, in fact, there was someone there like him. At some point, the place somewhat brightened; it was still dark, but he could make out where he was.

It was only an empty place—abstract and even disturbing. The image made him want to scream, but he couldn’t, and he held himself back. It was a place with walls having dark red and almost black liquid streaming on them, blemishing and splattering the floor.

And as he tried to lift his arm, he found out that he also couldn’t. It was sticky, and he discovered that he was also lying in that same liquid, almost engraving him to the floor.

He almost furrowed his brows, if only he could. This situation he was in was truly bizarre and extremely disturbing. What kind of fucking nightmare was this?

And as he roamed his eyes, a shadow was already sitting just not far from him. He was huddled in the corner; his knees were folded in front of him, and he was almost burrowing his face into it with his arms around it. He appeared so pitiful in this kind of position.

Arren looked at the shadow, sensing something familiar about it. And it was only a few seconds later that he remembered that he seemed to encounter a shadow in a dream before, when he collapsed at the banquet party.

Was this shadow the same as that shadow? It was dimmed, making it harder to even notice it as the shadow blended into the dark surroundings, looking so eerie and overshadowing his pitiful appearance.

However, Arren could also see that there was a difference between this shadow and the other shadow he encountered. That one was a pure and dark shadow, while this one was somewhat clear and not only an outline.

If not for the dark surroundings, Arren knew he could see what the shadow’s face was like.

’You’re here too,’ he muttered inwardly, not expecting any response as he couldn’t speak at the moment. He wasn’t even sure if this was the same shadow he encountered before.

However, to his surprise, the shadow seemed to hear him and responded to him by only turning his face in Arren’s direction, looking creepy as ever.

"I’m always here," he said; it was an emotionless and monotonous version of Arren’s voice, eerily like it came from inside of him.

’You’re always here?’

The shadow seemed to nod his head.

’How long have you been here?’ he asked again.

The shadow didn’t respond quickly this time, as though thinking about the answer to this question.

"I don’t know. I’m waiting for someone." Like he said last time, the shadow didn’t seem to know anything, but he knew he was waiting for someone.

Arren knew that he couldn’t ask for anything more than that, or it would be a waste of time.

’Where is this place?’ he finally asked what he was curious about. He didn’t know this place, but it was so vivid and creepy as well.

The shadow cocked his head, seemingly confused. "You don’t know?’ he asked.

’I don’t.’ Was he supposed to know?

The shadow fell silent again for a few minutes, and Arren almost thought he wouldn’t answer again.

"It’s a terrifying memory." The shadow muttered after a while; his voice was still somewhat monotonous, but somehow it held some fear within, especially for Arren, as this voice seemed to come from inside of him. The fear that he had intensified.

The place where they were became alive in an instant; the almost black liquid streaming from the walls and the floor flowed so fast that Arren knew that any minute he would be drowned by it.

The shadow seemed to not see Arren as he began to tremble, and even if Arren couldn’t see his face, he knew that he was afraid.

"This place is abandoned. It’s a terrifying memory, it needs to be abandoned. Yes... I’m also discarded, he needed to. It’s not his fault, he’s a victim... We are a victim." The shadow kept on muttering with his words, which Arren couldn’t fully understand but could feel inside of him as this voice was like himself.

Arren was taken aback by this change; in fact, his situation was getting worse. He was confused by the shadow’s behavior and words, but he couldn’t concentrate as well since the unknown black liquid was now flooding the room. It was almost in his face, and in only a minute he would be submerged under it and drowned.

’H-help me!’ He couldn’t help but shout inside, hoping for the shadow to help him this time.

The shadow heard this shout as he lifted his head and looked directly at him. Arren knew the shadow was looking at him. Yet, the shadow didn’t stand up or help Arren escape from his predicament.

"None of this is your fault. I don’t blame you for discarding me." The shadow went on with the same monotonous voice, but it was getting clearer and louder inside Arren’s mind and heart.

He furrowed his brows. Why was it that the shadow was talking about him now? Even with his limited time, Arren momentarily forgot that he was about to get drowned by the liquid and focused on the shadow as he completely captured Arren’s attention.

’W-What do you mean?’ Arren asked, not having any clue about this.

But the shadow didn’t answer him and only continued with his words. But at the same time, it could also be considered an answer. He was only looking at Arren, who was slowly being drowned by the liquid.

"It’s time, we can’t run anymore." The shadow’s voice somehow softened, "I’ll still wait here... until you come, and pick me up."

These words were the only thing that registered in Arren’s mind as he was drowned by the liquid. These words kept repeating in his mind, and he almost didn’t notice that he was becoming breathless and that the darkness was seeping into him... No, the abyss was calling him.

It’s time... Arren surrendered himself to the darkness, but he still had reservations. Am I really ready for this?

And as Arren was drowned by the liquid, the shadow huddled in the corner once more. He returned to his posture of patiently waiting. But this time... another layer seemed to paint his outline as his image became clearer. It couldn’t be mistaken; it was Arren’s image.

Who knew what would happen once the transformation was complete?
