Chapter 160: New Information (3)

What could Curt say besides agreeing? His life was in the hands of the man before him. And with the intense pressure on his being at the moment, he could only nod his head weakly.

Eyes were on him, with Levin and Ace securely sitting beside him and focusing on him.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Curt responded; the pressure on him slightly lessened, even though it was still there.

With the interrogation finally starting, even Arren, who came just to watch the drama, couldn’t help but be more serious. Still, he was silent, obediently sitting beside Spade.

Spade, on the other hand, scrutinized the alpha that gave black intel a hard time. He admitted that he did have some skills. But all of that didn’t matter now; he needed to answer if he wanted to live. His tolerance for the members of this organization had always been low, from the very start.

"Let’s start with the most important and heavy topic." Spade started cutting to the chase, "Do you know the leader of the organization?" He asked, staring heavily at the alpha and watching his expressions; any minute changes in his face were all registered under Spade’s scrutiny.

For him, this was one of the most important questions and probably the heaviest as well. He didn’t want to go around in circles, and he already wanted to confirm this fact, so he could know what he could get from this interrogation even at the beginning.

Curt was taken aback by this direct question without batting an eyelid that the Emperor asked him, his startled expression was immediately shown on his face before he recovered and answered.

Under everyone’s gaze, he shook his head honestly. "I’m sorry, I don’t know who our leader is..." He paused and took a deep breath, choosing the right words. "His Excellency can only be met by the executives, and as a liaison, I’m not yet qualified to do so," he answered with a lower head, not daring to make eye contact with Spade.

Spade and the others weren’t that expectant, to begin with, but it was still disappointing to know nonetheless. This further confirmed Spade’s conjectures about how cautious and cunning the leader was.

He was really a difficult opponent, he remarked inside.

He nodded his head and proceeded, now that he knew there was no use in asking questions about the leader’s identity, which could waste their time. However, not asking about the identity didn’t mean Spade couldn’t get any information about the leader from the other.

His eyes further narrowed, and his head leaned slightly as his legs crossed before leaning on the seat. His habit as a ruler had truly manifested, which was also the first time Arren could witness it.

Spade’s amber eyes flashed in the light, not taking his gaze off the alpha. "Tell me... what you know about the leader." He paused calmly. His words were normal in essence, but the underlying authority within could hardly be concealed, or it must be said he wasn’t trying to control it in the slightest.

His head tilted slightly to the side as he continued, each word heavily emphasized. "You haven’t met him; I get that. But looking at how you do things, being ’curious’ about your leader is not impossible. Am I right?"

Spade spoke with such a terrifyingly calm expression in his voice without having any waves of emotions at all, and now his words were like a law that even if you didn’t agree, you had no choice but to agree.

Curt sighed, nodding his head, slightly lifting his gaze to look at Spade. "As expected of Your Majesty."

Spade smiled, but not quite a smile, as a response before nodding his head slightly and telling Curt to continue. In that room, it was only Spade and Curt who were having a conversation with each other, while the three were watching at the side.

"His Excellency rarely called for the executives, and I’m also not qualified to meet the executives either. However, being one of the liaisons that are based in the most dangerous capital of the empire, I can ask a thing or two of our team leader." Curt went on; he appeared to not have any intention to hide anything.

Everyone fell silent and listened to him. His voice was the only one shrouding the room.

He continued, fiddling with his fingers. "I didn’t ask a lot, and I don’t dare to, the team leader said..." He swallowed saliva as though having difficulty putting his emotions in check as he recalled the details. "He said... His Excellency is a terrifying person who could sacrifice everything for his goals. So, I asked what this goal could possibly be... he said," he licked his lips and then lifted his head and looked at Spade. "His Excellency’s goal is... to shoot the sun down."

Shoot the sun down. Everyone repeated these words in their minds before they looked at Spade, and only a few seconds later, when the two loyal guards recovered, they had similar expressions on their faces.

"Insolent!" both exclaimed and almost roared to Curt with angry faces if not for Spade being there.

Even Arren was taken aback; he knew the implication and meaning of wanting to shoot the sun down. Spiritually and in the hearts of many, the emperor was the son of the empire, and wanting to shoot him down only meant... taking the crown or even killing him.

Only Spade didn’t have the surprised expression on his face and still remained composed, as though what Curt said was nothing to him.

"Your Majesty! Let me---" Levin abruptly paused as he saw Spade raise his head, signaling him to stop. The alpha had no choice but to stop, gritting his teeth and glaring at Curt.

Curt was almost suffocated as another set of pheromones was aimed at him.

"I see," Spade calmly spoke; however, he didn’t ease the tension and pressure on Curt. "However, you still haven’t answered my question: what do you know about the leader aside from this goal?"

Spade was more or less aware that this leader, whoever it was, had some kind of obsession for the throne. He might really be a descendant of the Old Empire, or someone who had a grudge against the royal family, but no matter what it was, Spade wasn’t afraid to fight head-on. He could try and kill him, but he would make sure to let him know, killing him wouldn’t be easy.

What he wanted were some clues to the patterns of this leader’s daily life and some clues that could give away his real identity. Spade had the feeling that this leader... was someone he knew.

His gaze focused heavily on Curt before he glanced to the side, the furious Levin was still glaring at the alpha. Spade looked at him for a good two seconds before returning to Curt.
