Chapter 699: Chapter 699: Charming Liniang (1)_1
These days have all been busy making spring soy sauce from yellow soybeans, and Pei Qin completely forgot about keeping track of the days. Watching Mo Heng and Feng Wei change their clothes and leave, Pei Qin sat alone on the bed, yawning. "Damn it, another year to be pregnant!"
Over at Pei Qian’s place, the news had already been received. When it came to the wet nurse and the cook woman, Mo Heng still trusted Pei Qian more; she could at least keep Pei Qin in check somewhat.
Even though Jiujiu was adorable and the darling of the whole family, Pei Qian still hoped that her elder sister would get pregnant again and have a son. That shameless Wei Shu hadn’t written to them again these days. Who knew if she had really given up hope!? Having a son, securing the family lineage, was the only way to lock it down!
So early in the morning, Pei Qian personally went to the kitchen and prepared preserved egg and lean pork congee, steamed carrots with cherries and sweet potato leaves, fish meat steamed dumplings, and sheep’s milk.
She left the cook woman and maids to watch the pots and went to the backyard to dress Jiujiu.
The little girl woke up early, and without anyone to coddle her, she was reluctant to stay in bed.
Jiujiu had already woken up, sitting on the bed rubbing her eyes, while the wet nurse held up mouthwash for her to rinse with.
Pei Qian came over, picked up the little one, helped her rinse her mouth, gave her a couple of sips of warm water, washed her face, combed her hair, and got her dressed.
After getting off the bed, she ran toward the main bedroom, "Mommy! I want to catch bugs!"
Pei Qian quickly grabbed her, "Come with your auntie to the front yard first. I made goldfish-shaped dumplings. After mom wakes up and we eat, your auntie will catch bugs with you!" Her brother-in-law had left in the middle of last night, her elder sister had things to pack for him. She was sure to sleep in this morning.
Jiujiu saw her parents’ room still had the door shut, but hearing there were goldfish dumplings, she followed her auntie to the front yard.
Pei Qian first fed her two dumplings, and then more than half a bowl of sheep’s milk.
When Pei Qin woke up and saw the overcast sky, "it’s going to rain!"
"More bugs when it rains!" Jiujiu had been hoping for rain these past few days.
Pei Qin looked at her daughter’s tender, bun-like little face and twitched the corner of her mouth. This Little Radish truly was unique, having such a special fondness for bugs.
Those soft, slender bugs, Pei Qian wouldn’t let her catch or even play with bean beetles anymore.
Sun Chao’s brother Sun Yang and Sun Xingwang had caught lots of grasshoppers and cicadas that had shed their skins to play with. She didn’t care for dragonflies or butterflies; she only liked playing with bugs. Cicadas in her hands would be squeezed until they squeaked, and Sun Yang broke off the mantis’ two big chewing teeth for her, and she would play with it until it died.
The rain hadn’t started, and Sun Xingwang, Zhao Xiaolang, and Sun Yang came over to find Jiujiu, "We’re going to catch longhorn beetles! Jiujiu, are you coming?"
"Yes!" Full of enthusiasm when it came to catching bugs.
"Come back! Put on a straw hat!" Pei Qin called after her.
Huang Qiu ran over with a little straw hat, swiftly placing it on her, and followed her with a guard.
Pei Qian, still worried, shouted from behind, "Don’t let her climb up high or get scratched!"
Sun Xingwang took Jiujiu’s hand and agreed.
Actually, these little ones just ran around following the older kids from town. Then they waited for them to catch something, before using Jiujiu and Zhao Xiaolang’s reputation to rob them of their catch.
After the Start of Autumn, the cicadas were gone. But other bugs were still rampant.
Jiujiu had been out for most of the day and came back with two longhorn beetles and several jumpy bugs. Holding the longhorn beetles by the antennae, she brought them to Pei Qin, "Mommy! Longhorn beetles! They can bite!"
Out of all the bugs, Jiujiu’s favorites were bean beetles and longhorn beetles. Bean beetles were green and shiny, curling up when pressed. And longhorn beetles had two long antennae.
Seeing her daughter’s face flushed red with heat, Pei Qin pondered silently. Maybe she had been pregnant for too long and her daughter was getting a bit...
