Chapter 698: Chapter 698 Kong’s Journey to the Capital (4)_1
"Hurry after them!" Old Pei told Pei Houli and Pei Wenbo. Bad news aside, as orphans and a widow striking out over mountains and rivers to Capital Jingcheng, who’d know what could happen to them on the road?
Lady Chen snapped to attention and urged them on anxiously.
Pei Houli and Pei Wenbo immediately went to the county town, rented a horse-drawn carriage, and gave chase.
The merchant caravan, burdened with goods, wasn’t fast. Racing against time, they caught up with The Kong’s mother and daughter in a small town a hundred miles away.
Kong’s knelt before Pei Houli, crying and begging him to let her go find Pei Wenli. The Dianbo Family’s well-off lady was said to bring misfortune to her husband, so she feared Pei Wenli might suffer and, concerned about the mother-in-law’s objection, she had set out for the capital without notice. Moreover, she suggested since the Pei family were concerned about their well-being, Pei Houli and Pei Wenbo might as well accompany her and her daughter. For Pei Wenbo, a good marriage could be found in the capital, and Pei Houli could easily land a respectable and lucrative position at the Crown Prince Mansion, much better than running around after his brother. In the capital, nobody would despise or belittle them over the business with Lady Fang.
Pei Houli was moved by her words, but they had left in such a haste that they didn’t bring much silver. The family’s wealth back home, if they were to leave, it would indeed be a loss.
Immediately, Kong’s said, "We’ll just say that father and us took different paths. We inquired and followed the trail on the road, almost reaching Capital Jingcheng. That’s when I thought to check on my husband. As for silver coin, I carry some. Once we’re in Jingcheng, will we be in want!?" She added regarding Pei Wenbo, "Any further delay, and once in Jingcheng, even marrying a well-to-do girl would be scrutinized."
As a result, Pei Houli and Pei Wenbo, moved by Kong’s passionate pleas and reasoning, decided to accompany her to the capital in search of Pei Wenli.
Pei Qin clicked her tongue, "Missed quite the spectacle!"
"Want to go to Capital Jingcheng?" Mo Heng asked her.
"I do!" Pei Qin turned to look at him.
Mo Heng looked at her with a mournful gaze, "Even if I resign my post, I’d follow you."
Pei Qin rolled her eyes at him, "You might as well shrink down, so I can hang you on my belt!"
Mo Heng reached out, grabbed her head, and kissed her.
As Jiujiu ran in, with her big obsidian eyes wide open, seeing her parents kissing, she hurried over, "Mommy! I want a kiss too!"
Pei Qin pushed Mo Heng’s face away, turned to her rushing daughter, and couldn’t help feeling a bit flushed, as she threw a couple of glares at Mo Heng.
Once Jiujiu had snuggled into her arms and Pei Qin had covered her face with kisses until she was smiling contentedly.
Mo Heng looked on with a smile, "I’ll be stepping out for a bit, and I’ll be back in no more than seven or eight days."
"Where to?" Pei Qin asked at once.
After students from Songyang Academy and Yuelu Academy visited, Wei Shu sent another letter to Mo Heng, who had directly sent her letter and belongings to Capital Jingcheng, informing Wei Shu. Mo Heng hadn’t received any more letters from her since then.
"I won’t be going to see the Governor of the Two Rivers, don’t worry. I’m just going to meet Xiao Guangbi," Mo Heng rubbed her ears as he spoke.
Pei Qin frowned unhappily.
After saying he’d go, Mo Heng prepared to leave that very night.
Pei Qin, fighting off sleepiness, sat cross-legged on the bed watching him get dressed.
Mo Heng buttoned up and embraced her, "I’ve finished all the important work at the workshop, so don’t tire yourself out there."
"Mm..."
"I’ll only be gone for five or six days, and I’ll come back as quickly as I can."
"Okay."
"Stay out of Old Pei’s House affairs."
"Mm... No!" Pei Qin agreed to everything else.
"You’re pregnant again, so you need to behave!" Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let her off tonight.
