The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 60. I feel no guilt.
Chapter 60: 60. I feel no guilt.
Barak knew exactly what he was getting himself into when he adamantly insisted on marrying her even after everything he’d witnessed. Even after everything she’d done. He still wanted to marry her, as a means to punish her, yes. Punish her for plotting to have his head taken, a punishment that would keep her away from that lover of hers that made her do such foolish things.
He wanted to punish her so he married her, thereby stopping her from achieving her motives. Their marriage was his punishment to her, yes it was.
But also, there was that part of him that just didn’t want to send her off into the arms of another man. Even though he knew she was a little lying witch, there was that little part of him that didn’t just wish to punish her but just wanted to have her to himself.
However, she never failed to amaze him. Her actions never failed to leave him wondering if she was being remoted by some kind of force, because how could she do all those things and still have no remorse!
"Was I the one who asked him to bow his head! Do you know how humiliated I felt looking at him bowing before a mere barbarian! What did I do wrong? I did nothing and yet he bowed his head down before you, a mere prince! You who are not even worth the silk on my back!" She retorted and it was so unbelievable that you could actually see it in her every muscle that she believed she was right. She believed she had done nothing wrong. In fact she believed her words at this very moment were fair and truthful.
Barak was speechless.
Never in his life had he met someone as selfish, egoistic and narcissistic as the woman before him. Was there really any form of redemption for her? No! He wasn’t going to think that way. She was his wife now. His responsibility. He would make sure she was redeemed. One way or another he would do something about this little woman.
She suddenly scoffed, "To think my father, my own father who had never even pulled a string of hair on my head had the audacity to slap me in the face! All because of you! And my mother too!"
"You deserved more than that slap. You still do." Barak simply said.
"Of course you would say that you stupid barbarian! How dare you say that?! I am a princess who is a delicate flower and yet my mother slapped me! My own mother slapped me in the face even though I was already bruised and wounded! And my father is not exempted. Father slapped me for the sake of a creature like you! I felt so insulted! And in front of all those many people!! All because I was trying to prove my innocence!" She cried out and Barak could not believe what he was hearing. Seriously, the woman never failed to surprise him.
"Innocence you say?" He sniggered and snickered. He placed a hand upon his forehead as if to help him contain the laughter. "That was something I was not expecting to hear. You were caught lying through your teeth and you claim innocence!" He couldn’t help the disdainful laughter that left his lips.
"Of course I was and I am innocent! One can only be guilty for a wrong done to a fellow being like myself! How can I be guilty towards a mere animal?! I feel no guilt toward you no less than I can feel guilty toward the beasts and animals in that forest!!!" And he had had enough; her words had gone too far!
"Woman, watch your tongue!" He commanded with his finger pointed in her face, but was she going to listen?
"You shall not command me! Who do you think you are to use such commanding tone with me! I am a princess of Avelah! A royal princess you foolish beast! Do you think I am your servant that you would dish out orders to? Or do I look like your little sister to take your—Ack!" She shrieked in pain as his single hand gripped her left arm so tightly she feared it would break.
"You should be very grateful that you are no maid and neither are you my little sister." He barked and drew her little figure closer to his body as she wriggled and tried to get herself out of his stronghold.
"Leave me, you—"
"You should be very grateful, not for the title of being princess," He continued, staring deep into those evergreen pools she called eyes, "but for the title of being Neriah Barak Der Drache! You should be grateful for the title of being my wife, because if you were anything else but my wife I swear I would have slapped you out of existence!!" He roared into her face. And for once she stopped struggling and just quivered in front of him.
Her big green eyes stared back at him, an ocean was already gathering in them, slowly getting ready to overflow. Her lips trembled and dear lords, but cursed be the hands that created her so delicately. She looked so beautiful as she trembled.
Her eyes looked even more enchanting now that they were filled with water, her flushed cheeks that were slowly being stantined with the tears that were gradually pouring out of her eyes was a delight to behold. Her quivering lips seemed to beg him to take them. Was he always like this? Barak wondered. Did he always enjoy seeing the tearful face of a woman? Why was he feeling this way? Why was he feeling... Excited.
"Watch what you say." He simply said and finally let go of her arm. Maybe he had grabbed her too hard. No, not maybe, he had definitely grabbed her too hard. It left a bruise on her fair skin. He breathed down and turned his face from her vulnerable appearance, trying to calm himself down.
