The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 59. I hate you.

Chapter 59: 59. I hate you.

On the night of their wedding when Neriah finally woke up, she was grateful she had fainted and was even more grateful that she had sustained some minor injuries from her stupid venture into the forest. Because due to those factors the usual rituals that took place between married couples on their first night together did not take place. Although they had already done the deed way before they even knew who each other were, she was grateful that he did not touch her again on their wedding night. In fact she did not see him when she first woke up to find herself cleaned, dressed and laid in a strangely familiar room.

It didn’t take her too long to figure that she was back in that same room in which they had both tangled. Once again she realized that she was really married to the barbarian. She just laid on the bed like a lifeless dry leaf as tears began to flow from her eyes uncontrollably. There were no sobs from her lips, just tears and more tears as she thought of her beloved Lyle.

Her eyes continued to produce water till they got heavy and tired and eventually forced her to sleep again.

When she woke up the next morning, there were already maids in the room ready to help her bathe and dress up. When she asked for Aria instead, she was told that Aria was facing punishment and therefore could not serve her.

She had instantly moved to go release her dear maid from whatever punishment she was being made to face but was blocked by the guards who had been given orders that the princess was not to step out of the room for any reason at all.

She had screamed saying, "Do you not know who I am? I shall have your heads dangling from the palace walls if you do not let me through this instant!" But no one bulged. No one listened to her. It was her father, the king, who had given the order so they had to obey. They could not do anything even though she was the princess.

Neriah could only huff and puff in frustration. Even as she bathed and dressed, she could not help thinking of Aria and she also wondered how Riri was doing. Her meal was brought to the room and she angrily ordered them to return it and when once again her words were not heeded she viciously threw everything to the ground and ordered them to clean it. At least that order they were willing to obey.

She has yet to see her dear husband since last night that they got married. She thought she’d meet him when she woke up but it was already past noon and he still did not show face.

And just like that, night came again and another meal was brought to her, like before she ordered that they return the food. And just like they had previously done, the maids could not heed such an order and begged that she at least eat something, no matter how little.

Neriah was adamant and refused to drink even water. She just sat on the couch near the balcony and silently stared into the night.

In a flash, another night was gone and she still did not see her new husband and she still had no way to get to Aria. For the first time in her life, Neriah felt like the goddess had deserted her. Like she no longer cared for her.

Mornings slowly rolled into noons and noons gave way to the cold nights, and the days kept on rolling by even though she desperately wished to pause time. Four days! Four whole days she had been locked up inside the goddamn room with no news of Aria and Riri and no news of Lyle. She had not eaten either.

It was no new thing for her. She had joined in fastings before. Albeit those times she always ate something when it was nighttime. But she was going to take this and treat it like one of her few fastings. This was nothing. The only thing she had was water.

Her husband too was yet to show face. She hated her life. She hated her life desperately.

Sitting inside the dark room, for she had powered water into the hearth after the maids lit the fire, blankly staring into the night sky like she had been doing for the past four days, Neriah heard the door twist and open, it was probably another maid there to try and persuade her to eat something. So she did not even bother turning her head.

"I do not know whether to commend your steadfastness or—" at the sound of his voice, her head instantly turned and her body shifted towards him, "or laugh at your foolishness." He said as he made his way toward her.

She heard the snapping of fingers and the hearth which she had previously doused in water produced fire once again. The candle chandelier in the room was also ignited. And she could see him clearly.

"Here," She realized he held a plate in his hand. "Eat." He simply said as he stood before her with the plate that contained a variety of sliced fruits. "Eat, you gain nothing from starving yourself." He said again and oh she hated him.

She hated him more than words could describe. Her chest was already heaving up and down with the hate she had for him. Her teeth bit into her bottom lip as she stared at him with blood red eyes.

She stretched her hand and accepted the plate from him and the corners of his lips rose slightly as he handed it to her and turned his back to her. She looked at the plate in her hand and then at the back of the man who was slowly unbuckling the belt that held his sword at his waist and she hated him. She hated him so much that she could not stop her hand from using the plate as a projectile, launching it directly into his broad back.

A low unpleasant growl escaped his lips as he turned around and stared at the plate and the fruits all over the floor, then his eyes shifted to her as she also rose to her feet.

"I hate you!" She suddenly said. She could not think of anything else to say. She just hated him and wished she was not being forced to marry someone who was clearly beneath her!

"I hate you so much and you make me puke!" She continued. "You are not even worthy of cleaning my shoes and yet I am being forced to marry someone like you! A beast, a good-for-nothing monster! I hate you and I hate my mother and father who have belittled their child in this manner!! I can not believe they would be so stupid to do this. They are foolish for giving me to you! They are—Ack!" She flinched and jumped back, turning her head away from him in fear as he took a step closer to her. Then seeing that he didn’t touch her, she raised her head once again.

"Foolish! You call your parents, the ones who birthed you, you regard them as foolish and stupid! You little disrespectful trot!!" He yelled back at her and an incredulous scoff left her mouth. Her eyes were wide open in shock and so was her mouth. She could not believe what he just called her!

"What!! Trot! How dare you call me that?! You are so vulgar! Even lowlife beggars would not use such language and you call me, a princess, a trot!! How dare you!" She yelled in anger, totally forgetting the fear that she felt for him just now.

"A woman who can boldly call her parents foolish and stupid does not deserve to be called any pretty names, you crazy woman!" He retorted. And another series of scoffs left her mouth.

"Unbelievable! How dare you rotten bastard!! How dare you talk to me in this manner! Who do you think you are?! You bag of rotten potatoes!! How dare you! I am a princess!" She was itching to slap him. Her hands itched so badly. She was barely holding herself back at that point.

"You are stupidly proud, you know that?" He suddenly said, taking a step closer to her and she refused to be intimidated by him so she remained in position, defiantly staring up at him.

"You have neither accomplished anything in your life nor have you done anything to deserve the title of princess which you carry and yet you speak ill of the ones who birthed you and gave that title to you without reasons more than you were their daughter! You call them foolish because for once in your very comfortable life, they did not do as you wish!! How can you be so infinitely proud when the ones who you call foolish bowed their heads in shame because of your very foolish acts!"

"What do I care if they bow their heads!!" She yelled back.

"You do not care?! Your father, the King of the greatest Elven empire, bowed his head in shame before the prince of another nation and you do not care!!" She was unbelievable, the little woman.
