The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 155. Married a bundle of stress

Chapter 155: 155. Married a bundle of stress

"Co_Commander?!""The guards at the entrance to the dungeon almost screamed in shock. Their head turned between the woman standing in front of them and the gate through which that same woman had passed just moments ago.

How were they looking at the commander when she was supposed to still be inside the dungeon? She just went in! Although in a different attire, they were certain she just went in!

"" Have I been here already?"" She asked and both the guards nodded in sync.

"" Yes, you are currently inside."" One replied then shook his head as though he had spewed nonsense. "" I mean you should be inside... NoNo, that is not it. What is going on?""The man was deeply confused. How was he to understand the situation?

His partner was in no better state of mind. They were certain their commander just walked in and was yet to step out. So why was she out here?

"" Open the gate! That wasn’t me. It was the crown princess."" Regina said.

""W_what?!"" Both men screamed and suddenly held their weapons up against Regina. "" Who are you! What are you? How dare you come here pretending to be the commander.""

"" You idiots, I commend your bravery but you should have done that when someone else came here impersonating your commander!"" She had no time to talk. The princess could be having her life sucked out of her as they spoke! With a swift move, she snatched the sword from the first knight and effectively and effortlessly rendered the other knight weapon less too.

Their eyes dilated as it dawned on them that such agility belonged to no one but their commander, "" C_Commander!""They stuttered and the knight who had the keys with a trembling hand quickly opened the gates.

"" I will be taking this."" She said to the one who she had collected the sword from. Quickly she entered the gates.

"" Commander! "" It was the same reaction that the knights outside had.

""Do not bother, ’tis indeed I."" She calmly said and before they could even start reacting to her, she realized that the pulley was still down.

If she were to pull it up, it would take time. Quickly, she brought the sword to the hem of her dress and tore it up to her thigh.

With a firm leap, she jumped into the hole that led to the deepest part of the dungeon. She landed on a rock and from that rock she jumped to another and then another, descending lower and lower. Due to her dragon blood she could jump real far without breaking a sweat and it was coming in handy at the moment.

As she descended lower, she was beginning to hear the sounds. From above ground it was close to impossible to hear the sounds coming from underneath due to how deep the dungeon was built. But the deeper a person went into the large hole that led to the dungeon, the more pronounced the noise became.

And from the growls she was hearing, Regina could tell that she had been right.

As soon as the princess’s maid had confessed the. princess’s plans, Regina instantly knew the princess was in danger. She quickly sent the maid to tell Barak about his wife’s rough play. Going to inform him herself was out of the question, for she would be wasting precious time because if what she was thinking was correct then the princess did not have much time.

If only the princess knew the many kinds of things that were locked up inside that dungeon, she would never have gone down there. If only she knew of one particular prisoner that was locked up in there... The Demon.

But then again, what kind of desperate curiosity pushes a person into a dungeon?! Regina had to commend the woman. She was much more courageous than expected. That, or she was irrational and lacked common sense.

Now everything was starting to make sense. The hair dye she smelt that time. She wasn’t wrong! The fact that the princess had calmly prepared to deceive everyone just to be able to see the orcs showed how stubborn she was. To the point that she even dyed her own hair!

Regina could not begin to imagine what would have happened had she not woken up in time. Thanks to her high standard of training, her body had built a sort of tolerance to things like poison and sleeping potions. The fact that she was even knocked out in the first place meant that the princess had purchased a very potent sleeping potion.

Regina wanted to blame Barak for all that was happening. He should have explained to his wife. He should have warned her extensively about the things that lay in that dungeon. He should have explained till she understood.

But then Regina thought again, considering the princess’s personality, no matter what Barak had said, she would have still made her own decision. In fact Regina felt like Barak’s explanation would have only fueled the princess’s curious mind. Because she was a stubborn woman. Maybe this was good. Maybe the princess needed to at least smell death to be able to learn her lesson. Sometimes the hard way was the best way. At least experience, they say, is the best teacher.

But would the princess be able to handle this experience? What lay in that place was something terrifying. And it sought elven blood to break free. And Neriah was not just any mere eleven blood... She was of royal blood... "" Seriously Barak, you married a bundle of stress.""

Regina hissed as she made the last jump and landed firmly on the platform of the pulley.

"Ahhhhh!" The scream was intense. The torches were flickering on and off as though she had landed in a haunted place. But then again, the dungeon contained different kinds of evil. What could be more haunted than this?

Quickly, she made her way towards where the growls and hisses were coming from. The guards that kept watch in the dungeon were top tier knights and thanks to that they were still alive. She could hear their heavy breaths, could hear the whooshing sound of their weapons cutting through air and their voice shouting, "" We need to get her away from it!""

Regina ran as fast as she could. The bars that held the prisons locked vibrated as all the prisoners banged and growled louder and louder. Their screams were deafening... Hands were sticking out of the bars of iron that held them in place, trying to grab her if they could.

They had all grown restless and it was all because of him... it... or better still, them.

"" Commander?"" She heard someone say. She turned her head to her side and saw a knight seated on the ground with his back on a wall and his hand and side bleeding profusely.

She knelt down next to him, ""We thought it was you. We did not know... The princess, it took her. It pulled her towards its prison. Hurry... Hurry. Or else it—"" Nothing else was able to come from his mouth as his lips shut together and his eyes closed. Regina wished to attend to him but there was no time. She could hear the shrieking voices of the remaining knights.

Quickly she moved and as she ran, she could hear her voice, "Release me! What is this?! Let me go!!" To think she still had pride in her voice. Fear had not set in yet. Or maybe that was fear talking.

Regina made her way through the rocky path, moving as swiftly as she could. "Princess!!" She screamed as she finally saw her.

Wrapped in an encompassing body of shadows, Neriah was floating in the air, almost lost in the darkness of the gloom that pulled her. A knight held one of her hands tightly in his own, trying to hold her steady. Trying to stop her from being pulled further into the darkness, into the hands of the thing that wanted her desperately.

But the truth was, the knight was also being dragged along. He was no match for the thing that pulled her. Regina could see it, Neriah was not in its hands yet but it was already drawing strength from her.

With a swift swing of her hand, Regina shot a huge fireball at the shadows, momentarily disconnecting it from Neriah.

"Ahhhh!" The loud shriek of the demon rang throughout the entire dungeon. It was an angry shout. And it sounded like the voice of a hundred people put in one.

Neriah fell back to the ground with a loud cry of pain.

For a short moment, their eyes met and Regina could see the self-reproaching look on the princess’s face and needed no one to tell her that indeed, experience was the best teacher. She seemed to have learned her lesson.

"" Princess! "" The knight that had been holding on to her hand yelled and sent a blast of fire toward the shadows that were slowly wrapping around Neriah again.
