The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 141. We fit.
Chapter 141: 141. We fit.
It was a slow song, and it required a slow dance. More importantly, it was the couple’s first dance together. Even at their wedding, they had not danced... Well, the situation then did not warrant a dance nor would any of them have agreed to it based on the circumstances surrounding their wedding.
So this was their first time on a dance floor, their first time in such a gathering together as husband and wife and one by one the others who once occupied the dance floor moved to the side until there was just the two of them in the center of the huge dance floor.
It seemed everyone would rather watch the two together than engage in any dance themselves. Like an unsaid way of honoring their prince who just returned. Even the King and Queen had taken their seats next to each other, watching as they both gyrated on the dance floor. To anyone who had eyes, it was a beautiful sight to behold indeed.
"Who would have known that a big man like you would be able to move his feet on a dance floor?" Neriah commented as they danced and drew a light chuckle from him.
"There is almost nothing I cannot do. Are you just realizing that now, dear wife?" He asked and she scoffed with a smile.
"You are such an egoist... Or better still a narcissist?" She raised her brows as though she was wondering which he was.
"Why? Are you falling head over heels for me now?" He asked in a light teasing tone, one she had missed.
She rolled her eyes, "Hardly." She replied.
He squinted his eyes and rolled his tongue inside his mouth, just staring at her for a while before whispering a response, "Liar." He charged and she scoffed and giggled.
He tilted her body and as he did so, his gaze left her form for the first time since they began dancing and his eyes caught everyone around them and he hissed as he lifted her again.
"All eyes are on you, Spitfire." He muttered, "I really cannot bear the eyes of others on you." He whispered as he twirled her around and pressed her to his body, slowly moving to the beat.
"Why, you do know you married the most beautiful elven princess in all of Avelah. I have been likened to the goddess Aveliana. It would almost be blasphemous if a beauty like myself is not stared at." She shrugged as he picked her off the ground like she were a child much to her surprise and suppressed delight as he twirled around with her in his arms before placing her feet on the ground again as the music slowly came to an end.
He took her hand and with a fine bow placed a kiss upon her knuckles, one that caused a sweet sensation down her body. A sensation that made her anticipate the end of the ball.
"And you call me a narcissist." He smiled as hee rose to his full height again and she shrugged.
"Well, I guess we finally have one thing in common." She replied as she pulled a fine curtesy, lifting her head slightly as she smiled and added, "No wonder we are married... We fit." Before he could dwell on her words, and show the shock on his face, she was already walking toward the remaining royal family and the applause and chants of people were deafening him.
They fit... what did those words even mean coming from her?!
After some more merriment, it was time to present gifts to the king. The guests presented their gifts before the royal family. Different extravagant gifts were given. And the children of the king took delight in watching everyone with different interests and goals presenting gifts to their father.
Nothing shocked them more than the guest from a human kingdom who came and offered his young daughter as a gift to the king!
"Oh, I know her!" Neriah had pointed as they all watched at the madness unfold before their eyes.
"You know her? How do you know her?" Raku asked the question that the others were clearly dying to know.
Neriah held her tongue between her teeth as she had blurted that out without thinking. How was she supposed to explain that she had met the lady when she went to meet Lyle?!
Well, she could always cut that part out. "Well, it was one time when I visited Alison’s Store, I met her briefly outside the store. Now I know that craziness runs in their family seeing how her father is offering her as a gift to the king right in front of the queen! Has he no fear?" She gave them the explanation they wanted while trying to return the topic back to the crazy people and not how she knew them.
"Aye, can you see father sweating." Raki laughed and they all stared at the king. Indeed, he was sweating profusely while staring at his wife who sat down next to him with a broad smile on her face.
Everyone could see that it was no ordinary smile.
""Your wife is beautiful as I have heard." Raknar moved close to Barak and whispered. Barak on the other hand ignored him and just twirled the wine goblet in his hand. ""I see the two of you get along pretty well too."" He continued and again, he was ignored.
""Urgh, fine! I am sorry, Your Royal Highness! But to be fair I did not know my voyage would take this long. I am sorry I missed your wedding, I heard it was quite entertaining by the way."" He ranted on hoping for a response from his older brother but nothing came forth. Barak just had his eyes on one thing and one thing only. The slightly smaller being who stood in front of him pleasantly carrying on a conversation with his brothers about the crazy human’s gift.
Every other noise was blocked out of his head.
""Are you really going to be like this? I was thinking of sharing my experience with you. You do not know how much my knowledge has increased over the past year that I have been away."" The only response he got was the slurp of the wine from Barak’s goblet. Nothing more.
""Seriously brother! As much as I am dying to tell you all about my voyage, I am curious about you and your bride. How in hell did you manage to win her over? From what I heard she hated your guts."" He said and suddenly, Barak took a step backward and stood right beside Raknar, then slowly he turned his head and stared at his brother...
""Does it seem as though she hates me less?"" He asked in a whisper, and Raknar’s eyes shined with realization. He had found a way to hold his brother’s attention.
He scooted closer to Barak and whispered back, ""Is that not obvious to anyone? Did you not hear people whispering while you danced? She has eyes only for you, clearly.""
Raknar saw the eyes of his brother shimmer and the corners of his lips rise slightly and he was tempted to continue. This was a side of his brother he really had not seen. ""I mean, before your arrival, she seemed like she could not wait for the entire thing to be over. But as soon as you came, everyone could see she radiated more than before. The joy in her eyes was not to be missed.""
It was so much fun! To see Barak have that expression on his face because of a woman! It was something he had always wanted to see and now that it was happening, Raknar could see how the man resembled their father so much.
He had always wondered if it was just their father who was like that seeing that neither his older brother nor himself had been captivated by any woman before now.
But now he could see it, it wasn’t just his father, both men were a lost cause when they had a woman in their heart.
He shifted his attention to his father for a second and saw that the human and his daughter had been rejected and the guards had moved them out of the place, but his father was still sweating.
""Raknar, I think you have gotten taller than the last time I saw you. I am proud of you."" Barak threw a hand over the younger man’s shoulder.
""I have always been taller." Raknar said as he was confused that Barak was suddenly talking about his height.
""Aye, and you even look more handsome too."" Barak grinned brightly as he spoke. His actions were starting to frighten Raknar. ""In fact I did not know you could look so handsome.""
Ah, Raknar nodded, as he also forced a laugh to match his brother’s own. He understood what was happening. His older brother had just lost his mind. Nothing more...
