The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 208: You are pregnant!

Chapter 208: You are pregnant!

Time had stretched into a quiet torment. Each day crawled by like a year. And when the leaves started changing hue to a fiery orange, she felt it even more. Without Kai, life had dulled to a pale shadow of what it once was. The Southern borders trembled with unrest, minor rebellions flared like sparks on dry wood, and Kai’s generals and butler Siamon were left to extinguish them alone. With the devil prince gone, greedy eyes turned not only toward the gold of Thegara but toward his wife as well.

Ren stood on the top of a golden plain, fingers tangled in the thick feathers of Ogain’s neck.

"Ogain," she whispered, her voice carried by the wind, "why did you linger in the Cave temple, in the Veil Valley? Did you sense something there... something strange that was u know to me? I felt your suspicion."

Her palm was dwarfed against the beast’s neck, once small and downy, now layered with massive plumes as thick as her Gamma Orgeve’s arm. Ogain had grown grotesquely majestic with sharp features and a black beak pointy. Towering over her, he was nearly ten times the size of Viva, her horse.

Ren had flown with him a few times, but it was harder than it had been in the dream world. The biggest issue was the wind and the cold, lashing her face. Beta Coran and Calisa had ground out her a light leather saddle, so the young beast wouldn’t struggle under its weight, but it was their hearts that bore the true burden.

In these three long months, Ren had lived only to keep herself from falling apart. She trained every morning with Arkilla, and by night, she sought every possible path to reach Kai, to bring him back from the gods’ prison.

She wrote letters to her Fae grandfather, clinging to hope with each inked word. He still replied swiftly through Agara, though her uncle hadn’t fully recovered from Phoria’s ambush. Whatever poison had been given to that vampire lord had nearly unraveled him. Sigaros had intervened, poring over ancient tomes and distilling antidotes in silence until he proved the venom’s origin, and that his hands bore no treachery. Gladly, the antidote worked well, and Agara wasn’t coughing blood anymore, though his heart had gotten weak.

On the other hand, Still, their plan to dismantle the Sorcerers’ Council had been suspended. As Sigaros warned, the high sorcerers were no ordinary foes. Rail couldn’t simply strike them down, not with weapons. He couldn’t even cross the barrier protecting their hidden stronghold. Therefore, to breach the enchanted castle, deception was the only path.

"I sensed something strange," Ogain said, his voice a low vibration in her mind. "An aura... but no one was there. Only a rift with warm aura exuding up."

His massive sharp blue eyes studied her. "Are you still reading Nimoieth’s notebook?"

Ren dropped her hand from his neck and walked slowly toward her mare. Viva was drinking from the shallow stream, her coat glistening in the pale sunlight.

"Yes," Ren said softly. "I finished it last night. Principal Arcane has been helping me. We’re trying to find a way to enter the Gods’ prison."

She turned her gaze toward the riverbank. Arkilla and Org were there, splashing cold water on their faces. It had been Ren’s idea to leave the keep early this morning, the sickness in her stomach had returned, and fresh air was all that calmed her. And that one-hour tour turned into hours.

"Ogain," she asked suddenly, "do you think we could fly north... to check on Gloria?"

The beast lowered his giant head and nudged her gently, but this time, not against her shoulder. His beak rested against her belly.

"Why don’t you tell them? I can hear their heartbeat," he asked.

Ren froze. Her hand moved instinctively, protectively, over her stomach.

"I want my husband to be the first to know."

Ogain let out a low, rumbling sigh. His voice had gotten deep and very soothing, or at least for Ren, it sounded soothing. She loved how Gloriously mighty her Griffin looked. Ogain was more than precious to her, her husband’s gift, her first child, not a beat or a pet.

"You are pregnant. Riding horses, training, and sleepless nights, they’ll wear you down. I can feel your exhaustion."

Her lips trembled, but she didn’t look away. Instead, she lifted her eyes to the sky, gray and heavy with clouds. The last colors of autumn clung to the branches, but winter’s breath was already here, cold and biting.

"I know," she whispered. "But I won’t stop. Not until he’s home."

Suddenly, the clouds above burst apart as a winged figure dove through them, his silhouette gleaming in the light. Ren’s eyes lit up.

"Calisa!" she said, a smile breaking across her face.

He had learned to fly without fully shifting into his hawk form, a rare skill, and one that made him look almost angelic as he descended. His white wings beat powerfully against the wind as he landed softly on the earth, scroll in hand.

"My Queen," he said, bowing with grace, "you have a message from Gamma Axe and Alpha Xander."

Ren stepped forward quickly, her hands snatching the scroll before he could even finish. Her eyes darted across the lines, and then her smile faded.

Her brows furrowed. "Elaika’s captured a spy."

Arkilla and Orgeve approached, having caught the urgency in her tone. Arkilla raised an eyebrow. "That’s not bad news. Why the long face, my Luna?"

Ren’s voice dropped into a darker tone. "The giant vampire destroyed two full human battalions... and when my father tried to corner him with Sunkiath, he vanished."

Arkilla and Org looked at each other, alarmed. "Vanished?" Org echoed. "How?"

Ren shook her head, frustration flickering in her gaze. "The spy bit into a poison tooth, the same kind we encountered in Jaigara. Instant death. No way to interrogate."

But even that wasn’t the real problem.

How had the vampire disappeared?

"Where’s Sigaros?" she asked, already turning toward Ogain.

"They’re still in Zillgaira," Org replied. "Trying to find a way past the magical seal, working through the merchant vassals who supply the castle."

He gestured to the scroll. "Rail mentioned it in his last message."

Ren’s hand tightened around the parchment. Every lead felt like sand slipping through her fingers, and yet she couldn’t stop chasing them. Not while Kai remained trapped in the realm of gods, and their enemies moved freely in the world.

"I want him here," Ren said suddenly. "Let’s return to the castle. I need my uncle to bring Sigaros here. This matter is crucial."

She turned toward Viva and lifted one foot into the stirrup, but a sudden, sharp pain seized her lower belly. She gasped, stumbling back, her hand flying to her mouth.

"Luna Reneira!" Arkilla rushed to her side, catching her before she fell. Worry carved deep lines into her face. "Are you still feeling sick?"
