The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride
Chapter 134: Asking for the Fae help?

Chapter 134: Asking for the Fae help?

Ren shifted in her seat, uncomfortable, doing her best to avoid the sharp, judgmental glances thrown their way. Good gods and Saints above, why did everyone act like they’d witnessed a scandal? No one batted an eye when others bedded their mates, so why in all the burning hells were these people staring at them as if waiting for a confession?

She swallowed a bite that felt more like gravel than food. If it weren’t for the urgency of the situation, she would’ve barricaded herself in their chamber for a week, long enough for the memory to fade. But this... this night wouldn’t be forgotten. Even she had to admit, it had been extraordinary. A rare alignment of stars behind the veil of shadow. The kind of night that might never come again.

"This will be the last meal we share before heading to war," Elder Dean announced calmly, though the shame still clung to his voice, no doubt thanks to his granddaughter, Elaika, and her scandalous, murderous behavior.

"Yes! Let’s enjoy it," Calisa’s father added quickly, eager to steer the conversation elsewhere before any reckless tongue could reopen last night’s wound or the mating ceremony of the Alpha king with his wife. He didn’t care what had happened. What mattered was that soon, an heir might be born, and the Queen, after all, carried the sacred bloodline in her veins. She was a half-fae.

"Please, enjoy your meal," Kai said warmly, and so they did, each bite passed in heavy, contemplative silence, the calm before the storm settling like mist over the table.

After the meal, the feline elder spoke up, his voice careful but firm. "Your Grace, are you certain you don’t want to take our Alphas to the meeting, for support?"

Kai shook his head. "No. Every one of my Alphas needs to spend the next two days gathering their warriors. We attack exactly as planned. The Generals completed their final survey, and their findings align perfectly with ours. I won’t place our fate solely in the hands of human kingdoms." His voice lowered, tight with resolve. "Lutherieth has eleven Lords. Even if we strike him down and strip them of their portals, they’ll still have enough strength to rise again. If we leave even one Lord standing, they’ll bide their time, rebuild, and come for us."

He let that truth settle in the air like a warning.

"We must kill them all."

Only with those Lords gone would the vampires stop multiplying.

"You’re right, Your Grace," said the elder of the River Pack, his eyes flaring with old anger. "And what of that traitor, Elaika?" His voice was sharp, unyielding. "I cannot stomach her presence in Thegara."

"I’ll hand her over to Alpha Xander," Kai replied coldly. "He’ll decide what use she has left. And if she dares betray us again... I doubt anyone would let her draw another breath."

Kai headed to the training field to check on his men, while Ren made her way to the lab. She hadn’t seen him since he’d created the poison, using the blood of the shifters. Just thinking about it stirred something uneasy in her chest.

Inside, the lab buzzed with quiet urgency. Healer Rigo and the trainees worked tirelessly, their focus came to appear unwavering as they refined methods to help others survive what was coming.

"My Luna Queen, it’s good to see you," the healer greeted her warmly, lifting a small vial in his hand. "I made this for you. After last night, I figured you’d need it."

Ren flushed, heat blooming across her cheeks. She couldn’t deny she needed something to recover her stamina—gods knew she did—but why did everyone have to be so blunt about it? She heard elders congratulating her husband before he left.

"Thank you," she said, voice low. "I’ll have it later."

He shook his head with gentle insistence. "Please, take it now. We need all your strength here."

With a sheepish smile, Ren uncorked the vial and drank it in one go. The sweet liquid slid over her tongue like honeyed fire, and in seconds, a surge of energy bloomed in her limbs. The fatigue that clung to her bones began to lift.

From the far end of the lab, Agara approached, her steps confident and eyes soft. "My niece is here," he said, smiling.

My niece. The words wrapped around Ren like a quiet embrace. And gods, did it feel good to be called that?

They hadn’t had a chance to speak about it, not properly. Since Ren had discovered who she truly was, they’d thrown themselves into the fight, focusing all their energy on weakening the vampires and her magic practice. The deeper truth between them remained untouched, quietly acknowledged but never discussed.

Still, Agara had changed. The cold, stoic strictness he once wore like armor had softened. In its place stood a man with warmth in his eyes and purpose in his voice. He was nice, to be honest, at least now.

"Master Agara," Ren said respectfully, bowing her head. He was older than her, her uncle, and her upbringing demanded difference. She had to respect him.

"I bring good news," he said, voice calm with satisfaction. "I combined all the ingredients with shifter blood, and it worked on the mutated vampires. Gamma Axe was so happy. We’re hoping the same reaction occurs with the giant Lord. If we can poison him with a high enough dose, setting him ablaze will be much easier."

He smiled, clearly pleased. That fire would come from Sunkiath. But for their plan to work, they’d have to draw the remaining Lords out. If even one escaped, tracking them down again would be a nightmare.

"We only have two names: Victor and Acelieth," she added. "What of the other nine?"

"They’ll use the giant Lord as their shield," Agara replied, his tone grave. "So let’s say eight remaining."

Gloria fell into thought, her gaze drifting toward Ren. "What if we ask the Fae for help?" she said slowly. "The Crown Prince of the Fae can read memories. What if... what if we don’t kill Acelieth right away? What if we capture him and let the prince search his mind first?"
