The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride -
Chapter 123: Looking for redemption.
Chapter 123: Looking for redemption.
Coran’s rage radiated like fire, melting the lingering cold that gripped the room. This was his sister that caused such a catastrophe. The second heir of the Mountain clan. A wolf! A wolf betrayed her Alpha. The pride and honor now was all gone.
Elaika didn’t fight back this time. She didn’t argue. Didn’t curse Ren’s name again.
"You knew I wouldn’t forgive you," Kai said, his voice laced with cold finality. He didn’t even glance back as he turned and strode out of the cell.
Behind him, Elaika broke. A scream tore from her throat, raw and guttural, a sound of pure desperation. But her brother didn’t stop. Didn’t flinch. He didn’t need to see her collapse to know it was done. This wasn’t just about the princess. This was about Thegara, about the lives she had stolen in the name of envy and treason.

The news spread through the castle like a plague, infectious and impossible to contain. Whispers clung to every wall. Shock rooted itself in every heart. Ren... a half-blood Fae. It was nearly unthinkable, but they had no choice but to believe it. Yet even that staggering truth paled in comparison to Elaika’s betrayal. She had murdered her own kin to carry out a cruel scheme against their Luna. Her parents had died protecting Thegara, and now their daughter would be executed as a traitor.
Elaika’s grandparents arrived in the capital within an hour of receiving Coran’s message. Grief carved deep lines into their faces as they pleaded with him to sway the Alpha King’s heart. But Coran’s gaze was distant, locked on the Omega families, his jaw set like stone.
And then he left. Walked away from the castle, from the bloodshed. He didn’t need to witness the execution. What he would do was find the remains of those lost, and see to it their ashes were returned to the heavens with dignity.
Ren stood motionless on the balcony, her heart thundering against her ribs as she watched the castle unravel into chaos. The elders were locked in bitter arguments. Wolf shifters from rival clans hurled accusations, and fists, at one another. The courtyard turned into a battlefield, blood soaking into the stone, until Kai was forced to release a dominant surge of his aura, slamming the packs into submission and their knees.
"No more discord in my realm...!" He shouted and continued warning them.
She could feel his exhaustion from across the distance, heavy and hollow like a storm that refused to break. But what pierced her deeper was how he kept avoiding her, as if looking at her was too much, or not enough. Her heart ached to leap from her chest and rush to him, to wrap him in her arms and remind him that he wasn’t alone.
The conflict among the wolf clans was fuel for the serpents’ delight. Their smug scoffs and pointed mockery slithered through the air, each one sharp as a fang. The other clans said nothing, but their expressions were worse than words, disgust, suspicion, fear.
A royal wolf had killed two Omegas and colluded with Lutherieth. What could be more damning than that?
"Shall we go to Ogain’s nest?" Arkilla’s voice was gentle, almost pleading. She wanted to pull Ren away from the ugliness, shield her from the fury brewing below.
But Ren didn’t move. She stood rooted in place, gaze locked on the fracture lines spreading through her new world.
"It’s all because of me," Ren whispered, her voice barely carrying over the wind.
She had never liked Silvine, Elaika’s grandmother, especially after the way the woman had acted, even going so far as to try pushing mistresses into Kai’s bed. But seeing her now, hollow-eyed and shrunken by shame, stirred something painful. Silvine didn’t speak; her head hung low, her presence shadowed by disgrace. At her age, she should have been enjoying the twilight of her life with her mate, not wandering the castle cleaning up the wreckage her granddaughter had left behind. She felt bad for Coran too. The guy was so good. He didn’t deserve to undergo this.
"Don’t blame yourself," Arkilla said, firm but gentle. "Elaika made her choices. She hated you and acted without thought. I’m just as stunned, but we can’t help her. She’s a murderer. No court will take her case. Her judgment has already passed."
Ren turned, eyes glassy with unshed tears. "Can’t we give her a second chance? Let her make amends somehow? Maybe... send her to the front lines to fight with the others?"
Arkilla hesitated. There was something, a buried clause in the ancient book of law about criminals redeeming themselves through battle. But Elaika? After what she’d done?
She studied Ren’s face. The suffering there was genuine. Then her gaze drifted to Gloria, standing silently nearby. That maiden had endured torture under Elaika’s hand, yet hadn’t once asked for vengeance.
"There is a way," Arkilla murmured reluctantly. "But..."
She hesitated. The fury of the shifter clans would be hard to contain if this path was chosen.
"Say it... can we save her?" Ren invited, her voice low but urgent. Her cheeks were red with hope.
Arkilla exhaled and gave a helpless shrug. "I don’t know. It’s possible... but it would require a sacred sponsor."
Gloria stepped forward, her eyes sharp. "What does that mean?"
Arkilla turned on her, brows raised. "Gloria, don’t be like this for fuck sake! She killed two Omegas. She tortured you. Why are you still defending her?"
She couldn’t understand either of them, Ren with her mercy, Gloria with her restraint.
Gloria’s lips curled into a grimace. "I hate her. But... there’s something tragic about all this. I can’t explain it. She was loyal to Thegara, if not to us."
"She chose to kill me and end the war instead of handing me over to Luther," Ren added softly. "For that... I should thank her. I didn’t want my soul to be toyed with by that monster."
Arkilla let out a slow sigh. "There are only two sacred sponsors left in this world. One is Sunkiath, and your father would burn Elaika to ash before letting his golden dragon sponsor that girl."
Ren nodded grimly. "The other is... Ogain."
"Yes. And convincing him will be nearly impossible," Arkilla said. "Elaika was a menace. A Griffin’s holy insight doesn’t tolerate murder."
"I’ll beg him," Ren said without pause, already turning on her heel. Her heart thudded violently, but her mind was steady.
She would do this.
She had to.
If the Gods willed Elaika’s death, so be it, but until then, Ren would fight for a path that gave Thegara more than loss and vengeance.
