The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 84: Happy

Chapter 84: Happy

"Since she started making things interesting for everyone. It’s amazing that she only had to dress up to mess with our heads, isn’t it?"

Anton shook his head once more, shifting his attention to Marcus. Marcus was a better person to chat with instead of Michael and his degeneracy.

"Did you hear from Vincent?" he asked. "He said he might come after his date with Fil."

"They’re on a date?"

"Is that a surprise? It’s not like they don’t have dates." Anton remarked sarcastically. "Did you make up now?"

Marcus ran his tongue across his inner cheek and mixed his drinks. "It’s not like I’m the one who needed to apologize."

"Right. But he never asks sorry."

"Then I don’t forgive." Marcus’ reply was quick with a smile. "I can tolerate him, but unless he admits he is wrong this time, then he stays five feet away from me."

"Why are you like this?" Anton murmured. "What he did is annoying, but Vince has a point about beating up Kenzo. You’re his friend, so if Kenzo starts talking, Vincent and Fil will have a problem."

Marcus was about to argue, but then the door suddenly flew open. Shifting their attention to the entrance, all they saw was Vincent rushing to the bar counter. Vincent didn’t say anything even after reaching the bar, pouring himself a glass of vodka, and chugging it down in one go.

"Woah! Easy!" Anton wow-ed, watching Vincent pour himself another glass. "Dude. What the hell?"

Vincent hissed after the second glass, almost slamming it down against the bar counter. His eyes glinted, moving them at the man behind the counter. Marcus tilted his head a little to the side, but his eyes were also sharp, as if he would fight him if that was what Vincent wanted.

"Woah..." Anton darted his eyes between the two. "You’re not going to fight, are you?"

"Fight?" Vincent glanced at Anton and sneered. When he returned his gaze to Marcus, he huffed. "No. I just wanted to say sorry."

Marcus, Anton, and even Michael looked at Vincent in disbelief. For a second, they doubted their ears. Did they seriously hear Vincent apologize?

Wow!

What a character development.

"Wow..." Anton’s lips were formed in an o-shape, touching Vincent’s forehead. "You don’t have a fever."

"Maybe he’s dying!" Michael suggested, marching in his friend’s spot to join them. When he reached the bar counter, he rested his arm against the edge, leaning beside Vincent. "Are you dying?"

"I am not." Vincent clicked his tongue in irritation. "I’m just being a man and owning up to my mistake."

"How much longer do you have?" was Michael’s response, even more convinced now that Vincent was dying. "Being a man, I get it. But owning up to your mistakes? You never admit you make one."

"That’s... a surprise, really." Marcus rocked his head, not expecting an apology from Vincent. "But sure. No biggie."

"Wow." Anton blinked in disbelief. "Are you sure you’re not dying?"

"No. Give me that." Vincent reached for the bottle of vodka to pour himself another glass. "Saying sorry is not that hard. I recognized what I did wrong, and I had to swallow my pride. Because if I don’t, it’ll be a problem in the future."

What Vincent said was something they would expect from other people. But not from him. Did Vincent hit his head? Or did he find a new religion where he pledged to devote doing the right thing?

What they didn’t know was that Vincent had a very distinct reason for acting out of character. Because that night when he almost fought Marcus, it lingered in his mind. As a result, he grew suspicious of Fil, which was something he would never have done in the first place if he hadn’t let his emotions get the better of him.

If he kept holding on to the idea that Marcus wanted to hit on his girl, it would only cause more trouble with his relationship with Fil. He might not trust men in general, but he should at least trust his woman. So, by asking for Marcus’s forgiveness, it also meant admitting he was wrong and that he shouldn’t make the same mistake. It was more of the ’temporary fix’ logic behind it, rather than the sincerity that should come along with it.

"It seems like you finally got a character development going on," Michael remarked while Vincent chugged another glass of vodka. "So, how’s the date? Seeing that you’re drinking like a madman, I presume it was bad?"

"Did you and Fil fight?" Anton inquired.

"Fight?" Vincent laughed as he glanced at Marcus. The latter furrowed his brows in confusion.

Seeing the innocent look on Marcus, Vincent bit his tongue and stopped himself from sharing unnecessary details. He already screwed things up with Fil. He shouldn’t add more by telling Marcus right in front of his face that he thought he was flirting with his fiancee.

"It’s more than a fight." Vincent sighed, relaxing his shoulders as he rested his arms on the surface of the counter. "I screwed up."

"What?" Michael leaned enthusiastically. "Did she find out you’re cheating on her with her best friend?"

Vincent glared daggers at Michael. "Did you rat me out?"

"What? Someone told her?" Anton gasped. "It’s not me! That’s why I’m drinking because I can’t tell her!"

"I’m being sarcastic." Vincent clicked his tongue, gazing down at this empty glass. "I said something... hurtful."

"Oh." Anton nodded while Michael frowned in dismay.

"I thought I was about to listen to an exciting drama," Michael commented before joining Marcus behind the bar to make a drink for himself.

"What did you do?" Marcus asked as he postponed making his drink. "Seeing that you came here like a raging bull and plans to torment your liver, it ended terribly, did it?"

"Yeah." Vincent sighed once more. "She broke up with me."

"What?!" this time, Anton dramatically gasped. Marcus furrowed his brows and Michael stopped whatever he was doing.

"And here I thought it’s just another boring story I wouldn’t want to hear," said Michael in interest. "She broke up with you like... a break up, break up?"

Vincent glanced at Michael. "We’ve been together longer than your new stepmom and dad are together. So, I know she’s serious and that... I hurt her."

"Woah!" Anton slapped the counter. "Is this for real?! Fil dumped you?"

"Does that mean I can flirt with her now?" Michael added, earning another glare from Vincent. "What? You hit a nerve with what you said. Am I not allowed to retaliate?"

"We broke up, yes, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to win her back," Vincent expressed with a deep sigh. He clasped his hair in distress. "Should I go to her, but knowing her, she might need some time and space."

"I got an idea." Michael came close to the counter. "How about you call Marianne and ask her to take away your worries?"

"Do you want to die?" Vincent glanced up at him. "My fiancee broke up with me, and you want me to call my mistress?"

"Isn’t that their job? If there’s a problem with the first one, go to the second. That’s the main point of having a side chick. They make you feel better, they make you look good."

"You’re fucked up." Vincent shook his head, not anymore surprised at how twisted Michael’s brain was wired.

As Vincent, Michael, and even Anton engaged in nonsense banter, Marcus stayed quiet. He studied the annoyed look on Vincent’s face and then wondered about Fil. If this had happened before, he would’ve told Vincent good advice that was far different from the ones Michael was spewing. But he didn’t, because somehow this terrible news Vincent was bringing with him made him... happy.
