Chapter 70: Making out with her lover.
Chapter 70: Making out with her lover.
Everywhere they looked were fields with barely any lights around. Houses stood at a great distance from each other. It hadn’t reached midnight, but everything was dark and quiet. People had already resigned to bed. It was almost refreshing, as it was completely different from the city.
In the city, everyone was still out and about at this hour. The different lights from the establishments almost looked as though it was daytime.
"I almost forgot that I was like this too." Fil broke the silence between her and Jackson, walking leisurely on the rough path. "It’s already considered late if I sleep at ten. Then, I wake up at the break of dawn, prepare for school, and then already headed to school at six. I used to walk my way to school until my grandpa got me a bicycle."
A subtle smile turned up on her face, keeping her eyes ahead and her hand in his grip. "I didn’t think I wasn’t visiting them that much until recently."
"Until you realized the reason you hadn’t been visiting them isn’t worth making such a sacrifice?"
"Mhm." Fil cast him a quick look. "That’s exactly the truth. If not for that, I’m probably at home right now and trying to catch up on all the work I have. I sometimes put my tasks aside to finish their requests. Them... meaning Vincent’s friends."
"It’s not like it’s only their fault. I tried so hard to fit in that I thought I was doing the right thing," she added with a bitter chuckle. "Anyway, that’s already in the past. I changed now and I’m just glad I was slapped by the harsh truth earlier."
"Me too."
Fil looked at him with furrowed brows. "What do you mean by that?"
"I was relieved you were slapped by the truth before you even said ’I do.’"
"Haha." She laughed. "How can I say I do when I say more to you?"
"Oh. Are we going to talk about that now?" Jackson looked around. "I guess we can since no one’s listening. You won’t have a reason to push me off the fields this time."
"I already said I was sorry." She frowned. "Just how long would you use that to make me feel guilty?"
"Forever."
"Red flag." Fil snatched her hand from him, taking a step back, looking at him suspiciously. "Stay away from me."
Jackson laughed, grinning from ear to ear. "And if I don’t?"
"Jackson Sisson, I’m not going to let you guilt trip me forever!"
"Just what would you let me do with you in that long time span?"
"Huh?"
"Forever," he clarified. "That’ll be a long time, isn’t it?"
Fil shut her lips as realization struck her. She tried to voice out a word, but she couldn’t.
"Gosh," she murmured as she looked away. "Oh, can you see that?"
She pointed in a direction in an attempt to change the topic. They had better stay away from any conversation that could dive deep into their emotions. Taking the hint, Jackson snapped his eyes in the direction she was pointing at.
There, from a distance, was a grandiose mansion. It looked luxurious, especially since all the houses in the area were small and old.
"That’s the Hale’s family home," she said. "I used to go there with my grandpa. You see, Vincent’s grandpa and mine are close friends. They’re best friends."
"I see."
"Whenever the chairman comes there, my grandpa will always drive to that mansion," she added with a smile. "They were good friends even until my grandpa died. The chairman even stayed for the rest of the memorial service."
Jackson stares at her side profile, catching multiple emotions in such a short period of time. "Tell me about him while we take a walk," he said, clasping her hand once more.
Fil paused and looked back at him. Instead of taking her hand from him, she nodded, and they resumed their steps. Just as he requested, she told him everything she remembered about her grandfather when he was alive. Soon, they stopped in an area where there was a large plain with a huge tree nearby and a swing.
"I used to play in there when I was little," she said, smiling. "While they were working in the fields, I would stay in there with them. That’s why they built that swing for me. I didn’t know it was still there."
"It looks like a perfect prop for a horror film," he commented, hearing her giggle in return.
"Let’s go there!" she urged, taking his hand to the field.
He let her, following her until they reached under the tree. This time, she let him go and approached the swing. Her eyes softened as she stared down at it, reminded of all the happy memories she had in this place.
"My grandpa used to push me here while I scream that he pushes more," she shared, sitting on the swing and chuckling when she felt that she was too big for it. "Now, I can barely fit."
"It sounds to me like you have a very good childhood," Jackson commented, standing behind her while holding the ropes that were attached to the swing. He was looking down at her, waiting for her to cock her head back to face him, before he added, "After meeting your family, I understand why you don’t want to disappoint them."
Fil smiled back at him. "If they knew how hurt I am, it would be double for them. I also don’t want them to think that they failed to raise a good daughter if they found out what I’ve been up to."
"What I am doing is a decision I made by myself," she added. "I don’t want them to think they have any fault in it. What about you? What is your childhood like?"
Jackson smirked, saying, "I don’t have one."
There were many things she wanted to tell him in return after his quick and short answer. However, Fil simply pulled her head and slowly rose from the swing. She walked around it until she was standing in front of him.
"I won’t push you off anywhere," she hinted, cupping his face gently. She drew a deep breath and stood on her toes, tilting her head until her lips touched his. She pulled her head back as quickly as she could, looking into his eyes. "Happy now?"
"A bit," he said, holding both her cheeks as he bent over, claiming her lips for a deeper kiss. This time, Fil wrapped her arms around his neck, adding another memory to this place full of good memories;
Making out with her lover.
