Chapter 64: The longer, the better.

Fil liked Vincent since the first time she laid her eyes on him. That was when she was eight. Vincent only reciprocated her feelings when they were in high school; the time she was on the verge of giving up on him and ready to open her heart to those who showed an interest in her.

Her relationship with Vincent was slow but steady. It took them a year of dating before they could hug each other because she was too shy. In the beginning, she was just awkward and messed her words around him. Time gave her plenty of room to feel comfortable around Vincent.

So the development of her affair with Jackson was incredibly fast for her.

Was it because it all started under different settings? Or was her age a huge factor?

Regardless, being too comfortable with him felt like a bad omen for her heart. She knew that and yet, she couldn’t stop herself from watching him take over the kitchen and efficiently do everything with precision.

’His beauty is not only out of this world but... he’s also skilled in the kitchen.’ She was in awe as she felt like Jackson was putting on a show for her. ’This feels so unfair.’

Perfection.

Fil snapped her eyes as she shook her head awake.

’I should stay away from him,’ she told herself, tiptoeing away from the kitchen. ’It was the side dishes yesterday, or maybe the hug? Why did I even...’

Her train of thought halted as she was a few steps from the couch. Quite the irony of telling herself to stay away from Jackson when she could see the kitchen from the living area. However, seeing the papers they used last night took her attention.

Fil slowly sat on the couch, putting her coffee on the table. She reached for the pieces of paper on it. The first paper was hers and it was a drawing of a building. The next paper was Jackson’s. There was nothing it in aside from the loops and hearts.

’I knew it,’ she sighed in disappointment. ’He wasn’t writing last night. Good thing I just drew.’

She already guessed that Jackson was simply scribbling gibberish. Thus, she just drew, thinking he was just tricking her. But she remembered him stopping and then writing something.

’But nothing is here.’ She frowned, glancing at the kitchen. He was still busy. ’I guess he didn’t write anything, after all.’

Fil almost caught herself laughing.

What made her think there was anything Jackson hadn’t experienced? With that face, body, career, and deep pockets, Jackson had it all. It was the reason he had so much time playing the role of the ’mistress.’ Life was probably too boring for him since he got everything. Thus, he would do anything for his amusement.

’Somehow, I feel bad for him,’ she thought, flipping the paper to put it back on the table face down. As she was about to lean back, she furrowed her brows. "What’s that?"

Fil reached for the paper again. This time, it was only Jackson’s. She lifted the paper to her face, touching with it her fingertips to feel the protruding cursive bumps on the back.

He wrote something in the continuous loops and hearts that almost covered the entire page. Fil raised it, moving it to the light, looking at the back of the paper.

[.devol eb oT]

"Devol eb..." she murmured, realizing she had to read it backward. "To be... loved."

For a moment, Fil paused and held her breath, not expecting to read that. She slowly lowered the paper, brows furrowed, confused about what to feel. She turned her head to the kitchen one more time, a little touched by those words.

’Right,’ she told herself. ’Because of his status, he might be surrounded by many people. But there’s no telling if they love him and care for him without conditions.’

Three words.

That was all it took to see him in a different light.

What he had was fancy from top to bottom, but what he needed was probably hard to attain. Love... true love, just how rare was it in today’s time?

Fil sighed as she put the paper in place. She then walked back to the dining table, hesitating if she should help him or stay in there. As she gravitated, her phone lit up.

[From: Vincent

Good morning, Fil. I’m sorry I couldn’t text you last night when I got home. Anyway, I’m going to check the venue for Grandpa’s birthday. Want to tag along? It’ll be a perfect chance to also look for venues for our future plans.]

[From: Vincent

Let me know so I can pick you up.]

"Huh." Fil just rocked her head, having this strange feeling about the messages Vincent sent her.

It would be a lie to say it didn’t make her feel any emotion. She loved him for a long time and spent her youth with him. However, it didn’t sting just as much. Especially the thought that he probably didn’t message her last night because he had to run to his mistress.

Vincent wasn’t the only one who had someone to warm his cold nights.

[To: Vincent

I hope you find a good place for the party.]

Fil locked her phone as soon as she sent the message, not giving him an explanation whatsoever. It would be a waste of time. After putting the phone down, she skipped her steps to the kitchen.

"Hey!" she called, standing on Jackson’s side while he cut some onions for whatever reason. She didn’t know there were onions in bacon and eggs.

"Hmm?" Jackson cast her a sidelong glance.

"Do you have plans for today?" she asked with a smile, making him narrow his eyes suspiciously.

"I do."

"Oh."

"Roll under the sheets with you all day," he clarified. "That’s my plan."

Fil clicked her tongue but didn’t make a huge fuss about it. She smiled brightly as she said, "I have plans for today."

"You do?"

"Mhm."

"How many hours do I have with you?"

"Hmm..." Fil rubbed her chin. "I’m planning to leave after breakfast."

Jackson’s expression died as it turned dark. Meaning, he had less than an hour with her?

"Want to come?" she proposed, washing out the gloom plastered on his face. He faced her squarely, enthralled by the bright and beautiful smile as she added, "You can come if you want to. As long as you don’t mind a long drive."

Jackson blinked, and before he knew it, he leaned his face forward and planted a peck on her lips. Fil flinched at his action, looking at him wide-eyed. But instead of drawing his head back, he rested his forehead on her shoulder.

"Heh," he snickered, his breaths long and heavy. "I don’t mind the long drive. The longer, the better."
