The Devil's Good Girl -
Chapter 51: Hypocrites
Chapter 51: Hypocrites
[Pentagon Hotel: Pent house]
"Yo, Marcus!"
Marcus turned his head when he heard another man’s voice. He grinned, excusing himself from the group he was talking to initially.
"Anton, my man!" Marcus, Vincent’s best friend, spread his arms wide. "I’m so glad you made it, dude! How are you?"
The two men clasped each other’s hands midway, pulling each other, and bumped their shoulders against each other. When they pulled away, Marcus placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder.
"I thought you wouldn’t come?" he asked, excitement shining in his eyes.
"Well, I also thought I couldn’t make it, but well, my previous commitment was canceled." The guest smiled from ear to ear. "So, here I am!"
"Dude, it’s been so long since you joined the fun." Marcus chuckled, tapping his friend’s shoulder. "Come on, man. The squad is by the pool. They’ll be delighted if they see you here."
"Haha. I bet they will." The man followed Marcus, squeezing their way into the crowd. They also greeted a few guests, chit-chatting with them for a moment.
"By the way, I heard Rosie was on a blind date a couple of nights ago?" Anton inquired after chatting with a few acquaintances on the way. "Heard his date was Kenzo."
Marcus’s smile immediately disappeared as he clicked his tongue. "Don’t mention it. Until now, Rosie was throwing a tantrum about it."
"Haha!"
"That arrogant jerk verbally attacked my sister, spewing a bunch of nonsense. She’s traumatized to even go on another blind date." Marcus sighed. "If I see him, I’ll give him a beating."
Anton laughed, patting Marcus’ shoulder. "Don’t worry, man. I got something to liven up the mood."
Marcus arched a brow, casting his friend a look. The latter wiggled his brows, smirking.
"That’s what I like about you," Marcus smirked back, stepping into the pool area where the fun was.
People in their bikinis and trunks enjoyed hanging out by the pool. Some were swimming, while others were just making out by the corner. Marcus heard a few whistles and cheers from his guest, warranting his humorous remarks in return.
Soon, Marcus and Anton reached the group, chilling on the farthest side of the area. As soon as they approached, the group cheered at the sight of Anton.
"Woah, Anton! I didn’t know you were coming!" one man in the group happily peeled his back from the rattan long chair. He raised his fist, which Anton bumped his fist against lightly as a greeting. Anton did it to everyone.
"Looking good, huh, Anton?" Vincent chimed in, watching his friend sit down. "I heard your album was sold out on the first day of its release."
Anton smiled proudly. "Well, thanks to you, it doesn’t matter at the moment." He shifted his eyes to the other side, eyes landing on the beautiful Marianne.
"What’s up with you two?" asked Anton. "Is it true? You guys are dating now? How about Fil?"
"We’re not dating." Vincent laughed, making Anton raise his brow higher. "That news is nothing but bull!"
Anton furrowed his brows, scanning his other friends for confirmation. All of them simply shrugged until one of the men in the group spoke.
"They’re not dating, they are just fucking."
"Hey!" Vincent yelled while Marianne hissed; "Michael, are you crazy?"
Marcus chuckled. "Come on, guys. Anton, don’t listen to him. Michael had been drinking since coming here."
"What?" Michael scoffed in ridicule, leaning back comfortably. "It’s true, though. Although we’re not saying anything whenever you two are together, it’s not like we don’t know. Come on, people. Let’s not be hypocrites. It’s not like I am judging -- we’re friends! I just don’t like it when you treat us as stupid."
Vincent’s eyes sharpened, burrowing a hole in the center of Michael’s face with his gaze. Marianne, on the other hand, cleared her throat and looked away. What Michael said was true. They never officially told their friends about their affair; they didn’t have to. They weren’t discreet about it, after all. Especially when they already had too many drinks.
"Hah..." Anton laughed, a bit taken aback at everyone’s reaction. "And everyone is fine with that?"
"Oh, come on, Anton. You speak as though you don’t fuck around?" the same man who let the cat out of the bag hissed at Anton. "They’re grown-ups."
"I fuck around, but it’s not like I am committed to someone." Anton clicked his tongue.
"We’re friends! So, we don’t snitch anything if one of us does something bad," Michael exclaimed shamelessly. "Besides, look at Marianne."
Michael leered at Marianne from up and down. "Even I would fuck her if she wants me to."
"Fuck off!" Marianne hissed, followed by Vincent’s threats. But alas, Michael just laughed out loud. "This guy should go home. Clearly, he is not in his right mind."
"Haha! Chill, guys!" Michael shook his head while laughing. "As I said, I’m not judging. Not my business, not my problem. But, I understand Vincent. Compared to Fil, Marianne is fun, pretty, and sexy. Filomena is... meh! She can’t even take a joke and always looks like she’s about to enter the monastery."
"Marcus, you should take this guy out." Vincent clicked his tongue, casting Marcus a look. "Fil is coming here, and this guy can’t be like this."
"Woah... scared she’ll break up with you?" Michael teased. "I doubt. Vincent, come on, buddy. Let’s not be hypocrites here. We’ve been covering for the both of you and this is what I get?"
He snapped his eyes at everyone, who was just enjoying how this unfolded. They didn’t want to get on Michael’s bad side, but also Vincent’s.
"You guys don’t mind, right?" Michael remarked. "It’s better if they just be honest."
"I mind." Anton frowned, leaning forward with his arms on his leg. "Don’t get me wrong. I like Marianne and I agree that Fil is boring. But that doesn’t mean I’m fine with this..."
Anton trailed off as he caught someone from the corner of his eyes. As someone who liked beautiful women, the alarm bells in his head immediately went off when it detected a hottie. Turning his head, he squinted his eyes upon catching a beautiful lady stepping inside the pool area.
"Marcus," Anton called listlessly, unable to take his eyes off of the woman. "How come you didn’t tell me you have a new friend? Who is she?"
Hearing Marcus’s inquiry and how he suddenly went into a daze, everyone turned their heads curiously. Anton was often surrounded by models, but they had never seen him fall into a daze at the sight of a woman. Thus, they were curious.
Who was the person who could make Anton — a man who has impossible beauty standards — speechless?
When everyone’s eyes fell on the woman stepping into the pool area, Marcus and Michael squinted their eyes. Marianne also furrowed her brows.
"She looks familiar," Michael mused, checking out her legs more than her face.
"That..." Marcus trailed off as his mouth fell open. "... is that Fil?"
