If there were one trait that Marcus was good at, that would be his skills in getting a person’s trust. He always portrayed himself as a kind and considerate person, eventually blindsiding them into ignoring the red flags. Fil fell for that once until Vincent’s cheating and Marcus beat Kenzo just because he could.

It was why she knew Marcus didn’t approach Elise for no reason.

"I’m sorry, Fil." Elise pouted while nervously fidgeting with her fingers. "I wanted to tell you early today, but I didn’t get the chance. Or I got a little scared of what you’d think."

Sitting across from Elise and Marcus, Fil forced a smile.

"It’s alright," Fil said, snapping her eyes to Marcus, who sat next to Elise. "It’s nice to see you, Marcus."

"The feeling is mutual, Fil." Marcus sported a friendly smile. "I didn’t want you to know this way, but what’s done is done."

"How did you two...?" Kenzo trailed off as if he realized he shouldn’t ask. However, Elise happily shared how their relationship started.

"Well, it just kinda happened," Elise blushed, but her tone exuded excitement. "Marcus and I met when Fil took me to his party, but then, we met again by accident. From then on, we kept in touch. One thing led to another."

"And we... felt that there’s a connection," Marcus added with a smile, his eyes squinting. "So, we decided to see each other and get to know each other more."

"Oh." Fil rocked her head, casting Kenzo a quick look. The latter maintained a stoic expression.

"Really, huh?" Kenzo tried his best to adjust his tone, but he couldn’t.

Fil let out a shallow sigh, snapping her eyes back to the ’couple’ across from her. "I’m glad you two seemed happy. I wish you the best."

"Hehe. We’re not getting married," Elise joked, but her smile was priceless. "It may or may not work —"

"Really now?" Marcus chimed in before she could even finish her sentence. Elise looked at him with surprise, her cheeks turning even more red as her gaze met his.

"It will work if we try hard." Marcus clasped her hand gently, nodding at her. "Don’t say it may not just yet."

Elise bit her bottom lips, peeking at Fil as if she wanted to gossip about this with her. Fil smiled back at her and nodded mildly.

With that, their dinner continued with some of their colleagues welcoming Fil back. Although they knew she would only stay for a week, they wanted to make her feel welcome. As for Fil, she had to put her concerns about Elise at bay and go with the flow.

Observing Elise and Marcus, the two of them seemed getting along. Marcus took notice of every little detail, giving Elise everything she needed before she could even ask. He would give her a glass of drink, refill her drink, give her food, and even hand over some tissue to wipe her mouth or hand.

Each time, Elise looked more and more in love.

Fil would feel reassured that she was being treated well if only the man doing this for her wasn’t Marcus. However, this was Marcus and deep in her heart, she knew Marcus had approached Elise with an ulterior motive.

"Do you know Fil, there’s an ice cream shop that you might just love?" Elise’s words started to slur as she was too happy and drank quite a lot. "Marcus and I went to this ice cream shop around the..."

Fil listened to Elise with a subtle smile, letting her glass of beer sit in her hand. ’I know that stall,’she thought. ’That’s where we...’

Fil slowly shifted her gaze to Marcus, only to see the man smiling from ear to ear. His eyes were squinting into mere slits. Even so, Fil played along.

"I would go there if you have so many good praises of it," Fil humored as she lifted her glass of beer to her lips. "I hope it won’t disappoint."

"It won’t! I promise you!" Elise giggled, taking another sip of her own beer. She hissed in satisfaction, wiping her mouth with her arm. "This beer is really good, isn’t it? I feel like all the burden I feel disappears."

"Are you that nervous to tell Fil you’re seeing Marcus?" Kenzo joked, also trying to enjoy his beer. "You didn’t even tell me."

"That’s because you weren’t interested." Elise pouted. "Besides, since you guys are already friends with Marcus, I don’t want to put some pressure on us. I don’t want you guys to feel bad if it somehow didn’t work."

She slowly faced Marcus and grinned happily. "Though I want it to work really bad."

"Me too, Elise." Marcus’s squinting eyes cracked open, ruffling her hair mildly. "The feeling is mutual. I wanted us to work."

Fil and Kenzo studied the two of them and, by the look of it, Marcus sounded and looked sincere. At this point, Elise and Marcus seemed like a true couple. For a moment, Fil wanted to believe her eyes.

Maybe... just maybe, Marcus ended up falling for Elise.

Elise was a good woman, she was likable in every angle. She was adorable and hardworking, and although a little clumsy, that trait only added to her charm. She also had a big and pure heart. If Fil was a man, she would definitely date Elise. After all, Elise had an adorable face too.

She might not look like the supermodels Marcus dated in the past, but who knows? Marcus was probably tired of dating those types and fell for the adorable type. Besides, Fil once used this adorable trick to Marcus, and he fell for it right in.

"You two will be a good couple," Fil expressed sincerely, smiling at the two of them. "I hope this will work out for the two of you, and I meant it."

"Fil..." Elise welled up while Fil’s eyes softened at her. "Wah! Wait, hug me!"

Elise jumped out of her seat and hurriedly went to her side, shoving Kenzo away and stealing his spot. She hugged Fil like a child, moved by Fil’s blessings to this relationship. Fil, on the other hand, patted her back while chuckling.

"Hey, young lady, that’s my spot!" Kenzo scoffed, hands on his hips, eyes full of dismay at Elise.

Fil only looked up at him and winked, signaling him to behave. Seeing her reaction, Kenzo clicked his tongue but didn’t berate Elise anymore. As for Marcus, he just watched Fil and Elise hug each other, but his smile briefly faded when Fil winked at Kenzo to relay her message.
