Chapter 183: His life playing in a form of a video

[The number you have dialed is out of reach...]

Marcus hissed as he tossed his phone on the table in front of him while placing his hand on his hips. He ran his tongue across his inner cheek, pouring himself a glass of whiskey to calm himself down. He had been messaging Fil in his free time throughout the day. However, she never returned any of them.

"Is she okay?" he wondered as he chugged a mouthful of whiskey. "She would usually call me back or message me."

It wasn’t like they were messaging each other every minute of the day. They didn’t have so much free time. However, there were regular exchanges between them.

[We haven’t had the time to talk even though we’re at the same party.]

His visage softened as he remembered what she said during their last phone call. Marcus pinched the bridge of his nose, assuming Fil was startled that night and no one was there with her.

"I should’ve known," he told himself, almost irritated by himself. "She needed someone and I... damn."

Marcus shook his head and sighed deeply, chugging down the rest of the whiskey in the glass. He ruffled his hair, thinking she was upset. Hence, he reached for his phone to leave her another message.

[To: Fil

I’m sorry.]

For a second, he hesitated in sending that message, but he eventually did. He let out another deep breath, pouring himself another drink. In his mind, he believed Fil must have felt no one was on her side. Even though the incident was an accident, it was clear there was animosity between Fil and Valerie. Knowing Fil’s personality, she would blame herself one way or another.

That was the reason she called him — was what he believed.

She was hoping that one person would be there for her, but he didn’t pick up the hint. Instead, he stayed with her ex and then went home. Marcus missed the opportunity to establish his position in her life. Things would have been different if he had gone to see her last night instead of going straight home.

"Why is she so hard to get?" he grumbled after another drink, sauntering to the couch nearby. "But then, if she is easy, I wouldn’t want her."

Marcus turned his head to the floor-to-length glass wall, where he could see the beautiful city lights that looked like stars. He rested his arm over the armrest, casually swirling the glass of whiskey.

’Should I give her time? Or go to her now and apologize in person?’ he wondered and to be truthful, he didn’t know which move would aggravate her less. The former sounded a little tricky, as she might think he didn’t care. The other option, however, might make him look desperate, like Vincent.

She didn’t want to turn her off that way.

As Marcus weighed his options, he heard the doorbell ring. He didn’t bother with it until he heard Anton’s voice coming in as Marcus’ cleaner opened it for him.

"Hey there!" Anton jumped on the same couch where Marcus perched. "Guess, what?"

Marcus didn’t answer, making Anton raise a brow.

"What? Did something happen? Is someone dead?" Anton inquired, looking around and then setting his eyes back on Marcus’s grim expression. "Don’t tell me Valerie ended up dying?"

This time, Marcus cast Anton a dead look. "Call Vincent and see what he’ll tell you."

"Tch. She’s still alive?"

"You want her to die?"

"She can die for all I care," Anton leaned back with a scoff. "That brat nearly ruined my everything and even hurt Fil. If I was the one who saw her, I would leave her behind. Let her learn her lesson on why only adults are allowed to drink alcohol."

"She really got on your bad side, huh?"

"Didn’t that rub you the wrong way too?" Anton arched a brow at him. "Being a brat is fine every once in a while, but when she affects others, it’s a different story."

"But I won’t let her die if I saw her there."

"I wasn’t serious about that. I’d wish, though." Anton clicked his tongue before he slapped the tablet on Marcus’s chest. "The music video is out. I wanted to show you since you helped one way or another."

Marcus raised his brows before accepting the tablet. The music video was already on standby as soon as he unlocked it. The thumbnail of the video was Marcus and Fil sitting close on the couch.

"What?" Anton blinked innocently. "She’s pretty and intriguing, so the team decided to use it as a thumbnail."

"You’re good at exploiting her."

"If there’s someone good at exploiting, that would be you," Anton retorted teasingly. "Now, go ahead and watch. That music video is close to surpassing my hit in terms of views. And the feedback is good; half of them are commenting about how godly I was, talented, lyricist, and all that bullshit."

"And the other half is saying this is overrated?"

Anton frowned. "Those are the minority. Not even one percent of a hundred thousand comments at the moment. The other half of the comments are asking who is the woman with me, some are assuming she’s my girlfriend, and then the shippers. Wow! I never thought people would wish me and Fil will end up together."

Marcus simply looked at Anton with mixed emotions. He didn’t know whether to laugh and mock him, or just let the man be happy. Either way, he was also curious about the end product of the music video. Even though he had seen everything behind the scenes and even helped out.

With that thought in mind, Marcus played the video. Anton excitedly squeezed himself beside him, as if he hadn’t watched it more than ten times.

Meanwhile...

Kenzo sat on the couch with his feet on the coffee table. In his hand was a tablet and a song was playing in his earplugs. His eyes were fixed on the screen, watching his life play out in the form of a music video, starring by the two people who took up a lot of space in his heart.

"If this isn’t a joke, life pitched right at me. I don’t know what it is," he let out a short and bitter chuckle. "And the end... is like a slap or a jab."

In the music video, the best friend — played by Anton — could only smile at his best friend, (Fil), whom he had been in love with, as she met another man and witnessed her fall in love with someone else all over again.
