Chapter 164: You saw nothing

"Miss Fil, is that dress from the MG Brand?"

"Miss Kim is the face of MG Brand and from what we’ve seen, they were like sisters! Of course, there’s no doubt the dress is from the MG Brand."

"Hah. Look at her."

The tension between the group of women around Fil consistently rose. Fil maintained a smile, letting them throw questions and answer them themselves. The men, on the other hand, were the same. All they asked her was if she was free some other time this week or next month. If that didn’t work, they would try talking about infrastructure and find a common interest with her using her field of work.

Who would have thought being important in the upper echelon could be this hassle?

’I didn’t come here to mingle,’Fil thought as she discreetly looked around, searching for Kim and Mr. Windsor. But with all the crowd around her, especially with these tall men, it was impossible to find them.

"Oh, I got to go," said a man, snapping Fil back to the current lapse. "Thank you for your time and I’m sorry that I have to leave. Something came up and —"

"Please take care on your way," Fil smiled until her eyes were squinting. "Don’t worry about leaving. I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time in the future to chat."

"Well, if you say so, then I’d take that as a promise." The man smiled in satisfaction. "I’ll send you an invitation soon."

Fil maintained a smile, thinking, ’I think I just said something really wrong.’ She mentally shrugged, knowing it was easier to reject him later on.

As the man bid her one last time and walked away, Fil saw Marianne with the gap the man left. Deep lines appeared between her brows, watching Marianne discreetly look around before going to the exit.

’Marianne?’ she squinted her eyes a bit. ’I hadn’t seen her throughout the event.’

Thinking about it, it was because Fil had been with the chairman throughout the event. Even so, she thought Marianne would approach her after she sent off the chairman. After all, if Marianne did, she could benefit from it. But alas, Marianne remained in the background.

’Where is she going? Meeting Vincent?’ Fil turned her head, ignoring the people talking to her at the moment. It took her quick enough to spot Vincent and Marcus in the bar section. ’Or not?’

Again, Fil looked back at the exit Marianne went to. Her heart told her to ignore it, but her mind was compelled to see what the woman was up to. Marianne looked suspicious enough. She was curious why.

"Excuse me." Fil snapped her eyes to the people around her. "But I got to go. I told Kim that I’d meet her after sending off the chairman."

"Oh! Sure, sure. If Kim Rock is waiting for you."

"Yes, go ahead and don’t mind us."

"But if you can, tell her that we say hi."

Despite the slight urgency Fil felt, she had to indulge with them for a moment. Once she was able to turn around and leave, she went straight ahead to where Marianne went.

Compared to the beautifully lit venue hall, the pool area where Fil was led was dim. Even the pathway heading to the pool area was quite dark. If not for the faint fairy lights from the garden on the side, she would have to go back to the venue hall and forget about it.

’What is she doing here?’Fil wondered as she reached the end of the open corridor. ’And why did she look so discreet about it?’

For some reason, Fil stopped in her tracks and hid behind the thin pillar. She stretched her neck, looking around the dim pool area. In no time, she saw Marianne standing by the pool with Valerie.

’Valerie and Marianne?’ Fil knitted her brows even more. ’I thought Valerie had already left earlier, but it seemed she lingered around.’

There wasn’t anything odd for Valerie and Marianne to be together. After all, Valerie must be very upset at embarrassing herself. Therefore, she would surely find an ally who would listen to her. Marcus was not her option anymore, and neither was Vincent. Since Rosalind couldn’t do anything, Valerie wouldn’t confide in her mother.

In other words, Marianne was the perfect person at the moment.

"So, they’re probably just talking about... are they drinking?" Fil squinted her eyes, catching Valerie drinking from a glass. Marianne, on the other hand, wasn’t drinking.

"Was she bringing drinks when she left?" she wondered and tilted her head a bit. "She wasn’t."

Fil closed her eyes and shook her head, telling herself this was a waste of time. There was always an explanation of how they got the drinks. After all, there must be a staff who Marianne asked before coming in here.

’This feels wrong. I feel like a peeping tom,’ Fil grumbled, about to turn around when Valerie suddenly lost balance.

Marianne caught Valerie on time before the latter fell from the ground. Fil, who was hiding from a distance, couldn’t help but sigh.

’She probably drunk a lot,’she thought, noticing that Marianne’s mouth was moving. ’What is she saying?’

Fil moved closer to the pillar, trying to read Marianne’s mouth but to no avail. However, Fil soon realized whatever Marianne was saying was not important because, in the next second, Marianne pushed Valerie to the pool.

Fil jolted in surprise, covering her mouth on instinct. ’What is she doing? She knew Valerie can’t swim.’

She watched Marianne carefully approach the side of the pool. Marianne didn’t do anything but watch Valerie swim her way to the surface. But alas, when Valerie reached her hand out on the surface, Marianne heartlessly stepped on her fingers.

"Ah!" Valerie screamed. "Ah! Help!"

Fil could’ve sword she heard Valerie scream for help a few times, but no one came. Even after Marianne kicked her hand away from the surface, no one came.

’She’s drowning...’ Fil froze while the tip of her hands turned cold. ’What is she doing? She’s going to kill Valerie.’

In a snap, her mind went blank and her mouth parted, about to yell and help Valerie. But alas, before she could do so, a hand suddenly pulled her wrist and turned her around. Before Fil knew it, she was wincing as her back hit the pillar, and a hand was pressed over her mouth.

"Mhm!" Her eyes shook as she screamed, but it was muffled. "Mhm!"

"Shh!"

Her breath hitched, wide-eyed. It took a moment for her to recognize the man in front of her and when she did, she furrowed her brows.

’Michael?’

"You," Michael whispered, his eyes burning and his expression was something she had never seen before. But what surprised her the most were his next words, "You. Saw. Nothing."
