Chapter 163: Now cheers to that
Chapter 163: Now cheers to that
It was no doubt Vincent was a crappy boyfriend and fiance, but Fil couldn’t deny that he was once her good friend. The two of them smiled at her response, making her shake her head.
"Don’t have any weird thoughts about that," she warned, facing the elevator door. "It doesn’t mean we’re okay. I’m probably just in a great mood tonight, but later, I’ll hate you again."
Vincent chuckled. "You always hate me."
Fil glanced back at him, and he shrugged. At the same time, the elevator door rang.
"Let’s go back," he jerked his chin forward. "And you don’t have to deny it. I know."
"I didn’t hate you until recently," she clarified as she walked out of the elevator while he walked beside her. "If I do, I wouldn’t put up with your attitude."
"You put up with my attitude, but you also scold me every so often."
"That’s because you’re being dumb."
Vincent rolled his eyes, making her want to explain herself further. However, Fil bit her tongue and stopped.
"I’m not falling for this," she pointed a finger at him. "If you think I always hated you, then so be it. I’m vengeful."
Fil clicked her tongue at him, resuming her steps, and left him behind. Vincent let out a defeated chuckle.
"I’m not doing anything," he defended himself, jogging to catch up to her. When he was walking beside her again, he continued. "I’m not trying to make you feel bad, alright? I’m just teasing you."
"Teasing someone always intends to annoy that person," she retorted. "Don’t act surprised if you pissed me off."
"Haha. Come on, Fil."
"Sorry, Vince. I’m someone who doesn’t take jokes really well." Fil stopped again as soon as they entered the venue hall. "Also, it seemed you forgot that I’m not the good type of friend. Don’t make me pinch your ears and drag you around here. We can always do it the old-fashioned way. Don’t test me."
Fil pointed a finger at him again. "Don’t bother me tonight or you’re dead."
Vincent raised his hands in surrender, smiling from ear to ear as she stormed away. Watching her back, he shoved his hands inside his pockets.
’I missed that side of her,’ he thought, chuckling to himself. ’Right. She used to be like that... until she’s no longer like that.’

Meanwhile, Marcus socialized with the remaining guests as usual. He was smiling and engaging with them until he caught two familiar figures from the corner of his eyes.
"By the way, Marcus, I see that your cufflinks are really pretty. Did someone else get it for you?"
The woman’s question faded into the background as Marcus turned his head. His brows furrowed, catching sight of Fil and Vincent returning to the venue hall. He saw them leave earlier with the chairman and the other guests. Knowing Fil was the chairman’s guest, it was no surprise she had to send him off. In other words, there shouldn’t be a surprise they would return together.
However, why did Vincent and Fil act as if they made up?
Marcus watched Fil say something as if she was annoyed. But Vincent just smiled wider. Even when Fil left in the same mood, Vincent maintained his smile.
’Ah.’Marcus mentally laughed, eyes glinting in contempt. ’So, he finally got himself together and realized his initial strategy wouldn’t work?’
"Director Marcus?"
Marcus snapped his eyes at the group around him and smiled. "I’m sorry, but I have to excuse myself first." He didn’t idle and didn’t wait for their reply as he already walked away from them. Even so, people would still greet him on the way or invite him to their group.
As the heir of the Arkwright Corporation, Marcus had to give these people even a few seconds of his time. Whether or not he wanted to, these people were still socialites and came from good families. Hence, it took Marcus a long time to reach Vincent.
"Congrats," Marcus joined Vincent in the wine section, telling the bartender to give him a light drink. "It’s now safe to say the party was a success."
Vincent laughed weakly, casting his friends a look. "You can say that, but that’s not because the event went smoothly."
"Tell me about it." Marcus casually sat on the stool right next to Vincent. "Michael was also throwing an after-party later, saying the fun things aren’t allowed here."
"That bastard..." Vincent scoffed, shaking his head mildly. "Well, as long as does it after this one, then it’s not my problem to worry about."
Marcus cast him a sidelong glance. "I saw you and Fil earlier."
"Yeah?" Vincent smiled as he lowered his gaze at his drink. However, he didn’t say anything else unlike usual, reminded of the memory he had seen while on stage. It annoyed him, but at the same time, he might be mistaken.
Fil and Marcus are no strangers to each other. Vincent shouldn’t put malice into everything, because first of all, he trusted Marcus. Secondly, he trusted Fil. Even if she was technically single, Vincent believed it was too early for Fil to date anyone. And it won’t be Marcus.
"Tonight, she really stood out, didn’t she?" Vincent murmured, smiling. "Mr. Windsor and Kim Rock. I wonder how she got to know them. I didn’t even know."
"If you spent more time with her instead of someone else, you would’ve known."
Vincent faced Marcus, making the latter shrug. "Seriously, man."
"Haha. Michael left or probably hid when I told him he should babysit you tonight," Marcus humored. "So, since he outplayed me, humiliating you is the least I can do to entertain myself."
"I don’t need a babysitter." Vincent raised the glass to his lips, but didn’t drink it. "And I’m not giving up on her."
"If that is your plan, then..." Marcus trailed off as he looked around, immediately spotting Fil as a big group seemed to have surrounded her. "... you better line up now. Because after tonight, the line of suitors wanting to date her will be too long, you won’t even see a glimpse of her."
Vincent followed where Marcus was looking, only to see men and women surrounding Fil.
"Nah." Vincent shook his head, giving Marcus a look. "I will give her the time and space she needs right now, but I don’t need to line up. She loved me once and I’ll always have a place in her heart. And if that doesn’t work, then I always have a back door."
The corner of his mouth curled up into a smirk. "I know Fil, and I can always make her come back to me even if it’s out of guilt." Vincent lifted his glass and clinked the bottom of it with Marcus.
"Now, cheers to that."
Marcus smiled back, lifting his glass to his lips. However, as he took a sip, his glinting eyes remained on Vincent.
"Is that so?"
