Chapter 132: Will do anything for her
Chapter 132: Will do anything for her
Fil had to admit Marcus was full of surprises. Not only did he unknowingly throw her off because of his different approach, but he was genuinely aware of every little detail. Fil thought Marcus was nothing but a coward who couldn’t outshine Vincent.
But it seemed even that was intentional.
Marcus and Fil traveled to where Kenzo was staying, engaging in any topic they could talk about. The more they talked, the more natural their conversation became. Surprisingly, Marcus still maintained a playful yet respectful stand. He didn’t bring up any subject that could cause awkwardness between them. Before they knew it, they had already arrived at Kenzo’s brother’s place.
Sitting on the couch, Kenzo darted his eyes between the two people sitting across from him.
’They really came together,’ he thought, rendered speechless even though she gave him a heads up. ’And now, this is awkward.’
"Fil told me you hate flowers, but I already bought one before she did," Marcus broke the building silence in the room. "Next time, I’ll ask her what you want first before purchasing anything."
Kenzo glanced down at the basket of flowers on the coffee table before lifting his eyes to Marcus. The latter was smiling kindly, which was the stark contrast to his attitude the night before.
’I hope she’s not falling for this,’ he mentally sighed, knowing Fil had this gullible side of her.
Kenzo sipped from the straw and lazily chewed the mouthful of tapiocas in his drink. "This is awkward," he pointed out. "So, are we just going to stare at each other?"
"What do you mean, to stare at each other?" Fil remarked as she took out the papers on the table between them. "You have to drink your meds in half an hour. Did you eat already?"
"I did... have breakfast."
"And it’s already afternoon," she casually replied.
Kenzo cleared his throat, glancing at Marcus instinctively. He shouldn’t ask why they were together, but if he didn’t, it would only look suspicious. "Why are you two together?"
"I asked Marcus to accompany me." Fil shrugged, still keeping her focus on the prescription and discharge instructions. "I might need help since you’re a grown stubborn man. Who knows if you suddenly fall? How could I carry you all by myself?"
"I’m not talking to you, Fil," he clarified as he fixed his eyes on Marcus. "Why are you with her?"
"She just told you." Marcus maintained a wide smile. "She asked me for help, and here I am."
"And why you?"
Marcus shrugged. "Fil and I are friends."
"And we’re not."
"We can be."
"We already have common friends she could ask for help. I don’t want to be friends with you."
Fil darted her eyes between the two of them, pursing her lips into a thin line. After studying Kenzo, a subtle smile turned up on her face. Kenzo already got an idea of her strange setup, yet he was acting just as he was supposed to.
"Ken," she chimed in with a slight frown. "Be nice, gee! Marcus is not here to bite you. Did you think I didn’t ask others to help me? It’s Sunday, so expect that many of our friends are spending time with their family."
A deep breath slipped past her lips, shifting her eyes to Marcus. "I’m sorry about that. He’s a little grumpy since the incident, but he’s a good person."
"Haha. I know." Marcus laughed, looking at Kenzo playfully. "I know he is. Don’t worry. I’m okay."
"Tss." Kenzo hissed, rolling his eyes irritably.
"Kenzo," Fil warned one more time like she would usually do. When silence followed, she darted her eyes between them until her gaze settled on Kenzo again. "Can I leave you two alone for a while?"
"Why are you asking me?"
"Because I don’t want you throwing your garbage at him." Her answer was quick before facing Marcus. "I’ll just prepare his food. He needs to eat before taking his medicine. Can you accompany him for a while?"
"Of course." Marcus nodded, earning a grateful smile from her. "Take your time. Don’t worry about him and me."
Reluctance shone in her eyes, but she still nodded in agreement. When she turned her head to Kenzo, the latter arched a brow because she was glaring daggers at him.
"Behave," she warned before leaving to prepare him some food he didn’t need.
Marcus maintained a smile, following her figure with his gaze. When she was out of their sight, he slowly set his eyes on Kenzo. Kenzo’s deadpan countenance died even more, his eyes were cold and unforgiving.
"Is this the reason you want me to shut up?" Kenzo brought up, his tone laced with nothing but coldness. "You don’t want her to know?"
"Fil and I are just starting to be good friends." Marcus explained. "I don’t want to leave a bad impression."
"Haha." Kenzo couldn’t help but laugh. "You are ridiculous."
"Am I?"
"Does Vincent know that you’ve been sneaking behind him to meet his... ex?"
"Does he have to know?"
Kenzo narrowed his eyes slightly. "You like her?" he scoffed in disbelief. "You’re not here to play, but you’re here because... you want to be with her?"
"Hmm. Yes." Marcus nodded without a second hesitation. "I like her."
"You’re not serious," Kenzo laughed weakly, studying the arrogant look on Marcus. "You don’t like her. At least, not like that."
"Who knows?"
"Marcus Arkwright, you should leave her alone," warned Kenzo. "Fil is better off without you or Vincent in her life."
"What if I don’t want to?" Marcus tilted his head to the side, leaning forward as he rested his arms on his legs. "What are you going to do about it?"
Kenzo ran his tongue across his inner cheek, observing the other man. He glanced in the direction where Fil left, letting out a short laugh as he met Marcus’s eyes once again.
"You’ll know," he shrugged. "And you won’t like it."
"That’s cute," Marcus chuckled, hanging his head low. When he looked up, a sneer was dominating his face. "Earlier today, she asked me if I was jealous of your friendship with her. My answer is no, and I’m serious. I’m not jealous of it."
"There’s nothing to be jealous of."
"There is, actually. She uses her day, which she could have spent resting, but here she was, babysitting you," Marcus argued calmly and quietly. "She knows what you want and you know her too well. Any man would find it upsetting. The fact that it’s obvious you like her isn’t helping. But do you know why I don’t feel any sense of jealousy at all?"
He paused, eyes glinting. "Because I know you like her more than I do and treasure your friendship with her deeply. It also means I can make you do anything as long as it involves her."
His smirk stretched while Kenzo’s face darkened. Little did Marcus know, just a few steps from the short hallway to the kitchen, Fil was leaning against the wall.
’Marcus...’she mentally whispered, eyes glinting malevolently. ’So this is what I’m missing, huh?’
He wasn’t just a trash in an expensive trash bin, but he was a calculating and conniving piece of parasite.
